The Rider on a White Horse

11 Then I saw heaven opened,(A) and there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True,(B) and He judges and makes war in righteousness.(C) 12 His eyes were like a fiery flame, and many crowns[a] were on His head. He had a name written that no one knows except Himself.(D) 13 He wore a robe stained with blood,[b](E) and His name is the Word of God.(F) 14 The armies that were in heaven followed Him on white horses, wearing pure white linen. 15 A sharp[c] sword(G) came from His mouth, so that He might strike the nations with it.(H) He will shepherd[d] them with an iron scepter.(I) He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God,(J) the Almighty. 16 And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh:

KING OF KINGS

AND LORD OF LORDS.(K)

The Beast and His Armies Defeated

17 Then I saw an angel standing on[e] the sun, and he cried out in a loud voice, saying to all the birds flying high overhead, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of commanders, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of their riders, and the flesh of everyone, both free and slave, small and great.”(L)

19 Then I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies(M) gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and against His army. 20 But the beast was taken prisoner, and along with him the false prophet, who had performed the signs in his presence. He deceived those who accepted the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image with these signs.(N) Both of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.(O) 21 The rest were killed with the sword that came from the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh.

Satan Bound

20 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the abyss(P) and a great chain in his hand. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent who is the Devil and Satan,[f](Q) and bound(R) him for 1,000 years. He threw him into the abyss, closed it, and put a seal on it(S) so that he would no longer deceive the nations(T) until the 1,000 years were completed. After that, he must be released for a short time.

The Coming of Christ

11 And I saw (A)heaven opened, and behold, a (B)white horse, and He who sat on it is called (C)Faithful and True, and in (D)righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His (E)eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many (F)crowns; and He has a (G)name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. 13 He is clothed with a (H)robe dipped in blood, and His name is called (I)The Word of God. 14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in (J)fine linen, (K)white and clean, were following Him on white horses. 15 (L)From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that (M)with it He may strike down the nations, and He will [a](N)rule them with a rod of iron; and (O)He treads the [b]wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has (P)a name written: “(Q)KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

17 Then I saw [c]an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to (R)all the birds that fly in (S)midheaven, “(T)Come, assemble for the great feast of God, 18 so that you may (U)eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, (V)both free and slaves, and (W)small and great.”

19 And I saw (X)the beast and (Y)the kings of the earth and their armies, assembled to make war against Him who (Z)sat on the horse, and against His army.

Doom of the Beast and False Prophet

20 And the beast was seized, and with him the (AA)false prophet who (AB)performed the signs [d](AC)in his presence, by which he (AD)deceived those who had received the (AE)mark of the beast and those who (AF)worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the (AG)lake of (AH)fire, which burns with [e]brimstone. 21 And the rest were killed with the sword which (AI)came from the mouth of Him who (AJ)sat on the horse, and (AK)all the birds were filled with their flesh.

Satan Bound

20 Then I saw (AL)an angel coming down from heaven, holding the (AM)key of the abyss and a great chain [f]in his hand. And he took hold of the (AN)dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and (AO)bound him for a thousand years; and he threw him into the (AP)abyss and shut it and (AQ)sealed it over him, so that he would (AR)not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.

The Coming of Christ the Conqueror

11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who was riding it is called Faithful and True (trustworthy, loyal, incorruptible, steady), and in righteousness He judges and wages war [on the rebellious nations].(A) 12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many royal crowns; and He has a name inscribed [on Him] which no one knows or understands except Himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in [a]blood, and His name is called The Word of God.(B) 14 And the armies of heaven, dressed in fine linen, [dazzling] white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword (His word) with which He may strike down the nations, and He will [b]rule them with a rod of iron; and He will tread the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty [in judgment of the rebellious world].(C) 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name inscribed, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”(D)

Doom of the Beast and False Prophet

17 Then I saw a single angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he shouted to all the birds that fly in midheaven, saying, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God,(E) 18 so that you may feast on the flesh of kings, the flesh of commanders, the flesh of powerful and mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all humanity, both free men and slaves, both small and great [in a complete conquest of evil].”

19 Then I saw the beast and the kings and political leaders of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against Him who is mounted on the [white] horse and against His army. 20 And the beast (Antichrist) was seized and overpowered, and with him the false prophet who, in his presence, had performed [amazing] signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were hurled alive into the lake of fire which blazes with brimstone. 21 And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse, and all the birds fed ravenously and gorged themselves with their flesh.

Satan Bound

20 [c]And then I saw an angel descending from heaven, holding the key of the abyss (the bottomless pit) and a great chain was in his hand. And he overpowered and laid hold of the dragon, that old serpent [of primeval times], who is the devil and Satan, and bound him [securely] for a thousand years (a millennium);(F) and the angel hurled him into the abyss, and closed it and sealed it above him [preventing his escape or rescue], so that he would no longer deceive and seduce the nations, until the thousand years were at an end. After these things he must be liberated for a short time.
