New Living Translation
The Fall of Babylon
18 After all this I saw another angel come down from heaven with great authority, and the earth grew bright with his splendor. 2 He gave a mighty shout:
“Babylon is fallen—that great city is fallen!
She has become a home for demons.
She is a hideout for every foul[a] spirit,
a hideout for every foul vulture
and every foul and dreadful animal.[b]
3 For all the nations have fallen[c]
because of the wine of her passionate immorality.
The kings of the world
have committed adultery with her.
Because of her desires for extravagant luxury,
the merchants of the world have grown rich.”
4 Then I heard another voice calling from heaven,
“Come away from her, my people.
Do not take part in her sins,
or you will be punished with her.
5 For her sins are piled as high as heaven,
and God remembers her evil deeds.
6 Do to her as she has done to others.
Double her penalty[d] for all her evil deeds.
She brewed a cup of terror for others,
so brew twice as much[e] for her.
7 She glorified herself and lived in luxury,
so match it now with torment and sorrow.
She boasted in her heart,
‘I am queen on my throne.
I am no helpless widow,
and I have no reason to mourn.’
8 Therefore, these plagues will overtake her in a single day—
death and mourning and famine.
She will be completely consumed by fire,
for the Lord God who judges her is mighty.”
9 And the kings of the world who committed adultery with her and enjoyed her great luxury will mourn for her as they see the smoke rising from her charred remains. 10 They will stand at a distance, terrified by her great torment. They will cry out,
“How terrible, how terrible for you,
O Babylon, you great city!
In a single moment
God’s judgment came on you.”
11 The merchants of the world will weep and mourn for her, for there is no one left to buy their goods. 12 She bought great quantities of gold, silver, jewels, and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk, and scarlet cloth; things made of fragrant thyine wood, ivory goods, and objects made of expensive wood; and bronze, iron, and marble. 13 She also bought cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, frankincense, wine, olive oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle, sheep, horses, wagons, and bodies—that is, human slaves.
14 “The fancy things you loved so much
are gone,” they cry.
“All your luxuries and splendor
are gone forever,
never to be yours again.”
15 The merchants who became wealthy by selling her these things will stand at a distance, terrified by her great torment. They will weep and cry out,
16 “How terrible, how terrible for that great city!
She was clothed in finest purple and scarlet linens,
decked out with gold and precious stones and pearls!
17 In a single moment
all the wealth of the city is gone!”
And all the captains of the merchant ships and their passengers and sailors and crews will stand at a distance. 18 They will cry out as they watch the smoke ascend, and they will say, “Where is there another city as great as this?” 19 And they will weep and throw dust on their heads to show their grief. And they will cry out,
“How terrible, how terrible for that great city!
The shipowners became wealthy
by transporting her great wealth on the seas.
In a single moment it is all gone.”
20 Rejoice over her fate, O heaven
and people of God and apostles and prophets!
For at last God has judged her
for your sakes.
21 Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a huge millstone. He threw it into the ocean and shouted,
“Just like this, the great city Babylon
will be thrown down with violence
and will never be found again.
22 The sound of harps, singers, flutes, and trumpets
will never be heard in you again.
No craftsmen and no trades
will ever be found in you again.
The sound of the mill
will never be heard in you again.
23 The light of a lamp
will never shine in you again.
The happy voices of brides and grooms
will never be heard in you again.
For your merchants were the greatest in the world,
and you deceived the nations with your sorceries.
24 In your[f] streets flowed the blood of the prophets and of God’s holy people
and the blood of people slaughtered all over the world.”

18 Human niadto, nakita ko ang lain na usab nga anghel nga mikunsad gikan sa langit. Gamhanan kini nga anghel ug nahayagan ang tibuok kalibotan sa iyang kasulaw. 2 Misinggit siyag kusog, “Nagun-ob na! Ang inila nga Babilonia nagun-ob na! Karon nahimo na kining puloy-anan sa mga demonyo o mga daotang espiritu, ug sa tanang matang sa langgam nga daotan ug hugaw. 3 Nahitabo kini sa Babilonia tungod kay ang iyang mga lumulupyo mao ang nagtintal sa mga tawo sa tibuok kalibotan nga mosunod sa ilang mga daotang binuhatan nga gikayugtan sa Dios. Ang mga hari sa kalibotan nakighilawas sa Babilonia. Ug ang mga negosyante sa kalibotan nangadato tungod kay diha siya kanila namalit sa iyang mga kinahanglanon aron makapatuyang sa iyang mga bisyo.”
4 Ug may nadungog akong lain usab nga tingog gikan sa langit nga nagaingon:
“Kamo nga akong katawhan, gawas kamo gikan nianang siyudad,
aron dili kamo makasunod sa iyang daotang buhat,
ug aron dili kamo malakip sa silot nga alang kaniya.
5 Kon tapukon ang iyang mga sala sangko na kini sa langit,
kay daghan kaayo ang iyang mga gibuhat nga daotan.
Ug dili gayod kini kalimtan sa Dios.
6 Kon unsa ang iyang gibuhat nga daotan ngadto sa uban mao usab ang buhaton diha kaniya,
ug doble pa gayod ang balos kaniya.
Kon unsa ang iyang gisilot sa uban, doblehon pa kana isip balos kaniya.
7 Kon giunsa niya pagpasigarbo ug pagpatuyang sa iyang bahandi, mao usab ang ibalos nga kalisod ug kasubo kaniya.
Nagtuo siya nga rayna siya ug dili gayod magsubo sama sa mga biyuda.
8 Tungod niini, moabot kaniya ang mga katalagman: mga kasakit, mga kasubo ug kagutom, sulod lang sa usa ka adlaw.
Human niini, sunogon siya,
tungod kay gamhanan ang Ginoong Dios nga nagahukom kaniya.
9 “Ang mga hari sa kalibotan nga nakighilawas kaniya ug nagpatuyang lang sa iyang bahandi manghilak kon makita nila ang aso sa iyang pagkasunog. 10 Magalantaw sila sa halayo tungod kay mahadlok sila nga maapil sa silot nga alang kaniya. Moingon sila, ‘Pagka-anugon! Pagka-anugon sa inila ug gamhanan nga siyudad sa Babilonia. Kay sa hamubo ra nga panahon[a] nasilotan siya!’
11 “Mohilak ug maguol ang mga negosyante sa tibuok kalibotan tungod sa nahitabo niadto nga siyudad, kay wala nay mopalit sa ilang mga baligya. 12 Wala nay mopalit sa ilang bulawan, plata, mahalong mga bato, ug mga perlas; ug sa ilang mahalon nga mga panapton nga puti, pulahon o seda. Wala nay mopalit sa ilang kahoy nga humot, sa ilang galamiton nga hinimo gikan sa bangkil sa elepante, sa mga mahalon nga kahoy, sa bronsi, sa puthaw, ug sa marmol. 13 Ug wala nay mopalit sa ilang mga baligya nga mga pahumot nga sama sa cinamon, insenso, mira, ug uban pa. Wala nay mopalit sa ilang bino, lana, harina ug trigo; sa ilang mga baka, karnero, kabayo, ug karwahe; ug bisan sa ilang mga ulipon. 14 Moingon ang mga negosyante sa siyudad sa Babilonia, ‘Ang tanang mga butang nga imong gipanghandom nga maangkon nangawala na. Ang tanan mong mga bahandi ug kabtangan nga gipasigarbo nawala, ug kining tanan dili mo na makita pag-usab!’ 15 Ang mga negosyante nga nangadato tungod sa ilang negosyo niadtong siyudad manindog didto sa halayo tungod kay mahadlok sila nga maapil sa silot nga alang kaniya. Mohilak sila ug maguol, 16 ug moingon, ‘Pagka-anugon! Pagka-anugon nianang inila nga siyudad! Kaniadto ang mga tawo diha nagsul-ob ug mahalon nga mga panapton nga puti ug pulahon, ug nagsul-ob usab silag bulawan, mahalong mga bato, ug mga perlas! 17 Apan sa hamubo lang nga panahon nawala ang tanan niya nga bahandi!’
“Molantaw sa halayo ang mga kapitan sa mga barko ug ang ilang mga tripulante, hasta ang mga pasahero ug ang tanan nga nanginabuhi diha sa dagat. 18 Samtang naglantaw sila sa aso tungod sa pagkasunog sa siyudad mosinggit sila, ‘Wala gayoy siyudad nga sama niana kainila nga siyudad!’ 19 Tungod sa ilang kasubo sabwagan nilag abog ang ilang mga ulo ug manghilak nga mag-ingon, ‘Pagka-anugon! Pagka-anugon nianang inila nga siyudad! Tungod sa iyang bahandi nangadato ang tanan nga adunay mga sakyanan sa dagat! Apan sa hamubo lang nga panahon nawala ang tanan!’
20 “Busa kamong tanan nga anaa sa langit, paglipay kamo tungod sa nahitabo niadtong siyudad. Paglipay usab kamong mga propeta, mga apostoles, ug mga katawhan sa Dios, tungod kay gihukman na siya sa Dios sa iyang gipangbuhat kaninyo!”
21 Unya, may usa ka anghel nga gamhanan nga mipunit ug bato nga ang gidak-on sama sa dako nga galingan, ug gilabay ngadto sa dagat ug miingon, “Sama niini ang pagkawala sa inila nga siyudad sa Babilonia, kay dili na gayod kini makita pa pag-usab. 22 Dili na gayod madungog sa maong siyudad ang mga tugtog sa mga mag-aalpa, mga magpaplawta, mga magtutrumpeta, ug tingog sa mga mag-aawit. Dili na usab makita nga adunay nagatrabaho sa bisan unsa nga matang sa trabaho. Ug wala nay madungog didto nga nagagaling. 23 Wala na gayoy suga nga makita. Wala nay madungog nga tingog sa mga bag-ong kinasal. Gisilotan ang Babilonia tungod kay ang iyang mga negosyante hilabihan ka mapahitas-on, ug ang mga salamangkiro nanglimbong sa mga tawo sa tibuok kalibotan.
24 “Ug dili kay kana lang, sila usab ang sad-an sa pagpatay sa mga propeta, sa mga katawhan sa Dios, ug ingon man niadtong tanang mga tawo nga gipamatay sa tibuok kalibotan.”
