And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “(A)Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues; for her sins have [a](B)piled up as high as heaven, and God has (C)remembered her iniquities. (D)Pay her back even as she paid, and [b]give her back double according to her deeds; in the (E)cup which she has mixed, mix double for her. (F)To the degree that she glorified herself and (G)lived [c]sensuously, to the same degree give her torment and mourning, for she says in her heart, ‘(H)I sit as a queen and I am not a widow, and will never see mourning.’ For this reason (I)in one day her plagues will come, [d]pestilence and mourning and famine, and she will be (J)burned up with fire; for the Lord God who judges her (K)is strong.

And I heard another voice from heaven saying,

“Come out from her, my people,
so that you will not participate in her sins,
and so that you will not receive her plagues,
because her sins have reached up to heaven,
and God has remembered her crimes.
Pay back to her as she herself also paid out,
and pay back double[a] according to her deeds;
in the cup that she mixed, mix double for her.
As much as she glorified herself and lived in luxury,
give to her so much torment and mourning,
because in her heart she said,
‘I sit as a queen, and am not a widow,
and I will never see mourning!’
Because of this her plagues will come in one day—
death and mourning and famine—
and she will be burned up with fire,
because the Lord God who passes judgment on her is powerful!”

Warning to Escape Babylon’s Judgment

Then I heard another voice from heaven say:

“‘Come out of her, my people,’[a](A)
    so that you will not share in her sins,
    so that you will not receive any of her plagues;(B)
for her sins are piled up to heaven,(C)
    and God has remembered(D) her crimes.
Give back to her as she has given;
    pay her back(E) double(F) for what she has done.
    Pour her a double portion from her own cup.(G)
Give her as much torment and grief
    as the glory and luxury she gave herself.(H)
In her heart she boasts,
    ‘I sit enthroned as queen.
I am not a widow;[b]
    I will never mourn.’(I)
Therefore in one day(J) her plagues will overtake her:
    death, mourning and famine.
She will be consumed by fire,(K)
    for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.
