The Woman and the Dragon
12 A great portent appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. 2 She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pangs, in the agony of giving birth. 3 Then another portent appeared in heaven: a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. 4 His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bear a child, so that he might devour her child as soon as it was born. 5 And she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule[a] all the nations with a rod of iron. But her child was snatched away and taken to God and to his throne; 6 and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, so that there she can be nourished for one thousand two hundred sixty days.
Michael Defeats the Dragon
7 And war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but they were defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9 The great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, proclaiming,
“Now have come the salvation and the power
and the kingdom of our God
and the authority of his Messiah,[b]
for the accuser of our comrades[c] has been thrown down,
who accuses them day and night before our God.
11 But they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony,
for they did not cling to life even in the face of death.
12 Rejoice then, you heavens
and those who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea,
for the devil has come down to you
with great wrath,
because he knows that his time is short!”
The Dragon Fights Again on Earth
13 So when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued[d] the woman who had given birth to the male child. 14 But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle, so that she could fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to her place where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time. 15 Then from his mouth the serpent poured water like a river after the woman, to sweep her away with the flood. 16 But the earth came to the help of the woman; it opened its mouth and swallowed the river that the dragon had poured from his mouth. 17 Then the dragon was angry with the woman, and went off to make war on the rest of her children, those who keep the commandments of God and hold the testimony of Jesus.
The First Beast
18 Then the dragon[e] took his stand on the sand of the seashore.

3 Apparve ancora un altro segno nel cielo: ed ecco un gran dragone rosso, che aveva sette teste e dieci corna e sulle teste sette diademi. 4 La sua coda trascinava la terza parte delle stelle del cielo e le scagliò sulla terra. Il dragone si pose davanti alla donna che stava per partorire, per divorarne il figlio, non appena l’avesse partorito. 5 Ed ella partorì un figlio maschio, il quale deve reggere tutte le nazioni con una verga di ferro; e il figlio di lei fu rapito vicino a Dio e al suo trono. 6 Ma la donna fuggì nel deserto, dove ha un luogo preparato da Dio, per esservi nutrita per milleduecentosessanta giorni.
7 (B)E ci fu una battaglia nel cielo: Michele e i suoi angeli combatterono contro il dragone. Il dragone e i suoi angeli combatterono, 8 ma non vinsero, e per loro[a] non ci fu più posto nel cielo. 9 Il gran dragone, il serpente antico, che è chiamato diavolo e Satana, il seduttore di tutto il mondo, fu gettato giù; fu gettato sulla terra, e con lui furono gettati anche i suoi angeli.
10 Allora udii una gran voce nel cielo, che diceva: «Ora è venuta la salvezza e la potenza, il regno del nostro Dio e il potere del suo Cristo, perché è stato gettato giù l’accusatore dei nostri fratelli, colui che giorno e notte li accusava davanti al nostro Dio. 11 Ma essi lo hanno vinto per mezzo del sangue dell’Agnello e con la parola della loro testimonianza; e non hanno amato la loro vita, anzi l’hanno esposta alla morte. 12 Perciò rallegratevi, o cieli, e voi che abitate in essi! Guai a voi, o terra, o mare[b]! Perché il diavolo è sceso verso di voi con gran furore, sapendo di avere poco tempo».
13 (C)Quando il dragone si vide precipitato sulla terra, perseguitò la donna che aveva partorito il figlio maschio. 14 Ma alla donna furono date le due ali della grande aquila affinché se ne volasse nel deserto, nel suo luogo, dov’è nutrita per un tempo, dei tempi e la metà di un tempo, lontana dalla presenza del serpente. 15 Il serpente gettò acqua dalla sua bocca, come un fiume, dietro alla donna, per farla travolgere dalla corrente. 16 Ma la terra soccorse la donna: aprì la bocca e inghiottì il fiume che il dragone aveva gettato fuori dalla sua bocca. 17 Allora il dragone s’infuriò contro la donna e andò a far guerra a quelli che restano della discendenza di lei che osservano i comandamenti di Dio e custodiscono la testimonianza di Gesù[c]. 18 E si fermò sulla riva del mare[d].

2 Und sie war schwanger und schrie in Wehen und Schmerzen der Geburt.
3 Und es erschien ein anderes Zeichen im Himmel: siehe, ein großer, feuerroter Drache, der hatte sieben Köpfe und zehn Hörner und auf seinen Köpfen sieben Kronen;
4 und sein Schwanz zog den dritten Teil der Sterne des Himmels nach sich und warf sie auf die Erde. Und der Drache stand vor der Frau, die gebären sollte, um ihr Kind zu verschlingen, wenn sie geboren hätte.
5 Und sie gebar einen Sohn, einen männlichen, der alle Heidenvölker mit eisernem Stab weiden wird; und ihr Kind wurde entrückt zu Gott und seinem Thron.
6 Und die Frau floh in die Wüste, wo sie einen von Gott bereiteten Ort hat, damit man sie dort 1 260 Tage lang ernähre.
Satan wird auf die Erde hinabgeworfen
7 Und es entstand ein Kampf im Himmel: Michael und seine Engel kämpften gegen den Drachen; und der Drache und seine Engel kämpften;
8 aber sie siegten nicht, und ihre Stätte wurde nicht mehr im Himmel gefunden.
9 Und so wurde der große Drache niedergeworfen, die alte Schlange, genannt der Teufel und der Satan[a], der den ganzen Erdkreis[b] verführt; er wurde auf die Erde hinabgeworfen, und seine Engel wurden mit ihm hinabgeworfen.
10 Und ich hörte eine laute Stimme im Himmel sagen: Nun ist gekommen das Heil[c] und die Macht und das Reich unseres Gottes und die Herrschaft seines Christus[d]! Denn hinabgestürzt wurde der Verkläger unserer Brüder, der sie vor unserem Gott verklagte Tag und Nacht.
11 Und sie haben ihn überwunden um des Blutes des Lammes und um des Wortes ihres Zeugnisses willen und haben ihr Leben nicht geliebt bis in den Tod!
12 Darum seid fröhlich, ihr Himmel, und die ihr darin wohnt! Wehe denen, die auf der Erde wohnen und auf dem Meer! Denn der Teufel ist zu euch herabgekommen und hat einen großen Zorn, da er weiß, dass er nur wenig Zeit hat.
Der Drache verfolgt die Frau
13 Und als der Drache sah, dass er auf die Erde geworfen war, verfolgte er die Frau, die den Knaben geboren hatte.
14 Und es wurden der Frau zwei Flügel des großen Adlers gegeben, damit sie in die Wüste fliegen kann an ihren Ort, wo sie ernährt wird eine Zeit und zwei Zeiten und eine halbe Zeit, fern von dem Angesicht der Schlange.
15 Und die Schlange schleuderte aus ihrem Maul der Frau Wasser nach, wie einen Strom, damit sie von dem Strom fortgerissen würde.
16 Und die Erde half der Frau, und die Erde tat ihren Mund auf und verschlang den Strom, den der Drache aus seinem Maul geschleudert hatte.
17 Und der Drache wurde zornig über die Frau und ging hin, um Krieg zu führen mit den Übrigen von ihrem Samen, welche die Gebote Gottes befolgen und das Zeugnis Jesu Christi haben.
18 Und ich stellte mich auf den Sand des Meeres.

12 Azután egy hatalmas jelkép tűnt föl az égen: egy asszony, aki a napba volt öltöztetve, lába alatt a hold, a fején pedig koszorú tizenkét csillagból. 2 Az asszony terhes volt, és a vajúdás fájdalmai miatt kiáltozott, mert már közeledett a szülés ideje. 3 Majd egy másik jelképet láttam az égen: egy óriási, vörös sárkányt, amelynek hét feje és tíz szarva volt, a fejein pedig hét korona. 4 Farkával lesöpörte az égről, és a földre dobta a csillagok egyharmadát. A sárkány az asszony elé állt, aki már majdnem megszülte a gyermekét. A sárkány azonnal fel akarta falni a gyermeket, mihelyt megszületik.
5 Majd az asszony világra hozta a fiát, aki arra született, hogy vasjogarral uralkodjon minden nép fölött. Azután a fiúgyermeket felragadták Istenhez — a trónjához. 6 Az asszony pedig elmenekült a pusztába, ahol Isten helyet készített neki, hogy ott gondoskodjanak róla ezerkétszázhatvan napig.
7 Ezután háború kezdődött az égben. Mihály[a] és angyalai harcoltak a sárkánnyal és annak angyalaival. 8 A sárkány vereséget szenvedett, és ezért sem ő, sem az angyalai nem maradhattak többé a Mennyben, 9 hanem kihajították őket onnan. Ez a sárkány az a régi kígyó, akit Ördögnek, vagy Sátánnak is hívnak, és aki az egész emberiséget becsapja. A Sárkányt és angyalait ledobták a Földre.
10 Ekkor erős hangot hallottam a Mennyben. Ezt mondta:
„Most lett a győzelem Istenünké,
most mutatta meg az erejét,
most érkezett el királyi uralkodásának ideje!
Isten Messiása most kezdi gyakorolni királyi hatalmát,
mert most dobták le a Mennyből testvéreink Vádlóját,
aki éjjel-nappal vádolta őket Isten előtt.
11 Testvéreink legyőzték a Vádlót a Bárány vérével,
legyőzték beszédükkel, mert tanúskodtak az igazságról,
legyőzték, mert nem ragaszkodtak az életükhöz sem,
s nem féltek a haláltól.
12 Örüljön a Menny,
és ti mind, akik a Mennyben laktok!
De jaj nektek, föld és tenger,
mert leszállt hozzátok a Sátán, aki őrjöng dühében,
mert tudja, hogy már csak kevés ideje maradt!”
13 Amikor a Sárkány látta, hogy ledobták a Földre, üldözni kezdte az asszonyt, aki a fiúgyermeket szülte. 14 Az asszony azonban két sas-szárnyat kapott, a hatalmas sas szárnyait, hogy el tudjon menekülni. El is repült a pusztába, arra a helyre, amelyet Isten készített a számára. Ott, a Sárkánytól távol, gondot viseltek rá három és fél évig. 15 Ekkor a Sárkány[b] szájából egy folyó ömlött ki, hogy az asszonyt elsodorja. 16 De a föld segített az asszonynak: megnyitotta a száját, és elnyelte a vizet, amely a Sárkány szájából ömlött. 17 Erre a Sárkány nagyon megharagudott az asszonyra, és elment, hogy háborút indítson az asszony többi gyermeke ellen: azok ellen, akik megtartják Isten parancsait, és Jézusról tanúskodnak.
18 A Sárkány a tenger partjára állt.

12 Alors un signe grandiose apparut dans le ciel : c’était une femme. Elle avait pour vêtement le soleil, la lune sous ses pieds et une couronne de douze étoiles sur sa tête. 2 Elle était enceinte, sur le point d’accoucher, et ses douleurs lui arrachaient des cris.
3 Là-dessus, un autre signe parut dans le ciel, et voici : c’était un grand dragon[a], couleur de feu. Il avait sept têtes et dix cornes. Chacune de ses sept têtes portait un diadème. 4 Sa queue balaya le tiers des étoiles du ciel et les jeta sur la terre. Le dragon se posta devant la femme qui allait accoucher, pour dévorer son enfant dès qu’elle l’aurait mis au monde. 5 Or, elle enfanta un fils, un garçon qui est destiné à diriger tous les peuples avec un sceptre de fer[b]. Et son enfant fut enlevé auprès de Dieu et de son trône. 6 La femme s’enfuit au désert, où Dieu lui avait préparé un refuge pour qu’elle y soit nourrie pendant mille deux cent soixante jours.
7 Alors une bataille s’engagea dans le ciel : Michel[c] et ses anges combattirent contre le dragon, et celui-ci les combattit avec ses anges ; 8 mais le dragon ne remporta pas la victoire et lui et ses anges ne purent maintenir leur position au ciel. 9 Il fut précipité, le grand dragon, le Serpent ancien[d], qu’on appelle le diable et Satan, celui qui égare le monde entier. Il fut précipité sur la terre, et ses anges furent précipités avec lui.
10 Puis j’entendis dans le ciel une voix puissante qui disait :
Maintenant, le temps du salut
est arrivé.
Maintenant, notre Dieu
a manifesté sa puissance,
il a instauré son royaume.
Maintenant, son Messie
a pris l’autorité en main.
Car l’Accusateur[e] de nos frères,
celui qui, jour et nuit,
les a accusés devant Dieu,
a été jeté hors du ciel.
11 Mais eux, ils l’ont vaincu
grâce au sacrifice de l’Agneau
et grâce au témoignage
qu’ils ont rendu pour lui,
car ils n’ont pas aimé leur vie
jusqu’à redouter de mourir.
12 Réjouis-toi donc, ô ciel,

réjouissez-vous !
Mais malheur à la terre
et à la mer :
le diable est descendu vers vous
rempli de rage
car il sait qu’il lui reste
très peu de temps.
13 Quand le dragon se vit précipité sur la terre, il se lança à la poursuite de la femme qui avait mis au monde le garçon. 14 Mais les deux ailes d’un grand aigle furent données à la femme pour qu’elle s’envole vers le désert jusqu’au lieu qui lui est réservé. Là elle doit être nourrie pendant un temps, deux temps, et la moitié d’un temps, loin du Serpent. 15 Le Serpent vomit de sa gueule, derrière la femme, de l’eau abondante comme un fleuve, pour qu’elle soit emportée dans ses flots. 16 Mais la terre vint au secours de la femme : elle ouvrit sa bouche et absorba le fleuve que le dragon avait vomi de sa gueule. 17 Alors, furieux contre la femme, le dragon s’en alla faire la guerre au reste de ses enfants, c’est-à-dire à ceux qui obéissent aux commandements de Dieu et qui s’attachent au témoignage rendu par Jésus. 18 Il se posta[f] sur le rivage sablonneux de la mer.
