⁹ The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent^(A) called the devil,^(B) or Satan,^(C) who leads the whole world astray.^(D) He was hurled to the earth,^(E) and his angels with him.

Ministers of the New Covenant

¹² Now when I went to Troas^(C) to preach the gospel of Christ^(D) and found that the Lord had opened a door^(E) for me, ¹³ I still had no peace of mind,^(F) because I did not find my brother Titus^(G) there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia.^(H)

¹⁴ But thanks be to God,^(I) who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma^(J) of the knowledge^(K) of him everywhere.

¹¹ Put on the full armor of God,^(A) so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

¹² For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,^(A) but against the rulers, against the authorities,^(B) against the powers^(C) of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.^(D)

⁸ Be alert and of sober mind.^(A) Your enemy the devil prowls around^(B) like a roaring lion^(C) looking for someone to devour.

¹⁴ Since the children have flesh and blood,^(A) he too shared in their humanity^(B) so that by his death he might break the power^(C) of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil^(D)—

The Thousand Years

20 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven,^(A) having the key^(B) to the Abyss^(C) and holding in his hand a great chain. ² He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan,^(D) and bound him for a thousand years.^{(E) 3} He threw him into the Abyss,^(F) and locked and sealed^(G) it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations^(H) anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

¹⁰ And the devil, who deceived them,^(A) was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur,^(B) where the beast^(C) and the false prophet^(D) had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.^(E)
