¹⁷ For you say, ‘I’m rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing,’^(A) and you don’t realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked. ¹⁸ I advise you to buy from me gold refined in the fire so that you may be rich,^(B) white clothes so that you may be dressed and your shameful nakedness not be exposed,^(C) and ointment to spread on your eyes so that you may see. ¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and discipline.^(D) So be zealous and repent. ²⁰ See! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.^(E)

Light versus Darkness

⁶ Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for God’s wrath^(A) is coming on the disobedient^[a] because of these things. ⁷ Therefore, do not become their partners. ⁸ For you were once darkness, but now you are light^(B) in the Lord. Walk as children of light^(C)— ⁹ for the fruit of the light^[b] consists of all goodness, righteousness, and truth^(D)— ¹⁰ testing^(E) what is pleasing^(F) to the Lord. ¹¹ Don’t participate in the fruitless^(G) works of darkness, but instead expose them. ¹² For it is shameful even to mention what is done by them in secret. ¹³ Everything exposed by the light is made visible,^{(H) 14} for what makes everything visible is light. Therefore it is said:

² They will ban you from the synagogues.^(A) In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering service^(B) to God.

³ I will grant^[a] my two witnesses authority to prophesy for 1,260 days, dressed in sackcloth.”^(A)

⁷ When they finish their testimony, the beast^(A) that comes up out of the abyss^(B) will make war on them, conquer them, and kill them.

¹⁵ It was permitted to give breath^[a] to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast could both speak and cause whoever would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.^(A)
