¹² Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial^(A) because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life^(B) that the Lord has promised to those who love him.^(C)

Epilogue: Invitation and Warning

¹² “Look, I am coming soon!^(A) My reward is with me,^(B) and I will give to each person according to what they have done.^(C)

⁸ Now there is in store for me^(A) the crown of righteousness,^(B) which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day^(C)—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.^(D)

³ not lording it over^(A) those entrusted to you, but being examples^(B) to the flock. ⁴ And when the Chief Shepherd^(C) appears, you will receive the crown of glory^(D) that will never fade away.^(E)

⁵ Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown^(A) except by competing according to the rules.

²⁰ He who testifies to these things^(A) says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”^(B)
