³ and threw him into ^(A)the pit, and shut it and ^(B)sealed it over him, so that ^(C)he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while.

The Thousand Years

20 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, ^(A)holding in his hand the key to ^(B)the bottomless pit^[a] and a great chain.

^17 (A)And a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den, ^(B)and the king sealed it ^(C)with his own signet and with the signet of his ^(D)lords, that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.

⁸ The beast that you saw ^(A)was, and is not, and ^(B)is about to rise from ^(C)the bottomless pit^[a] and ^(D)go to destruction. And ^(E)the dwellers on earth whose names have not been written in ^(F)the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel to see the beast, because ^(G)it was and is not and is to come.

⁹ And ^(A)the great dragon was thrown down, ^(B)that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, ^(C)the deceiver of the whole world—^(D)he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

⁶⁶ So they went and made the tomb secure by ^(A)sealing the stone and setting a guard.

The Defeat of Satan

⁷ And when the thousand years are ended, ^(A)Satan will be released from his prison ⁸ and will come out ^(B)to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, ^(C)Gog and Magog, ^(D)to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. ⁹ And ^(E)they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded ^(F)the camp of the saints and ^(G)the beloved city, but ^(H)fire came down from heaven^[a] and consumed them, ¹⁰ and the devil ^(I)who had deceived them was ^(J)thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where ^(K)the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

⁹ The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan ^(A)with all power and false signs and wonders, ¹⁰ and with all wicked deception for ^(B)those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. ¹¹ Therefore ^(C)God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe ^(D)what is false,

¹³ For such men are ^(A)false apostles, ^(B)deceitful workmen, ^(C)disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as ^(D)an angel of light. ¹⁵ So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as ^(E)servants of righteousness. ^(F)Their end will correspond to their deeds.
