⁵ I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.”

³⁷ surely, therefore, ^(A)I will gather all your lovers with whom you took pleasure, all those you loved, and all those you hated; I will gather them from all around against you and will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness. ³⁸ And I will judge you as ^(B)women who break wedlock or ^(C)shed blood are judged; I will bring blood upon you in fury and jealousy. ³⁹ I will also give you into their hand, and they shall throw down your shrines and break down ^(D)your ^[a]high places. ^(E)They shall also strip you of your clothes, take your beautiful jewelry, and leave you naked and bare.

^40 (F)“They shall also bring up an assembly against you, ^(G)and they shall stone you with stones and thrust you through with their swords. ⁴¹ They shall ^(H)burn your houses with fire, and ^(I)execute judgments on you in the sight of many women; and I will make you ^(J)cease playing the harlot, and you shall no longer hire lovers.

The World Mourns Babylon’s Fall

^9 (A)“The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her ^(B)will weep and lament for her, ^(C)when they see the smoke of her burning,

³ It ^(A)may be that the house of Judah will hear all the adversities which I purpose to bring upon them, that everyone may ^(B)turn from his evil way, that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.”

³ For all the nations ^(A)have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, ^(B)and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the ^[a]abundance of her luxury.”

^30 (A)“Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways,” says the Lord God. ^(B)“Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin. ^31 (C)Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a ^(D)new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel? ³² For ^(E)I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord God. “Therefore turn and ^(F)live!”
