¹⁹ Then I saw the beast^(A) and the kings of the earth^(B) and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse^(C) and his army.

¹⁶ Then they gathered the kings together^(A) to the place that in Hebrew^(B) is called Armageddon.^(C)

¹⁴ They are demonic spirits^(A) that perform signs,^(B) and they go out to the kings of the whole world,^(C) to gather them for the battle^(D) on the great day^(E) of God Almighty.

The Heavenly Warrior Defeats the Beast

¹¹ I saw heaven standing open^(A) and there before me was a white horse, whose rider^(B) is called Faithful and True.^(C) With justice he judges and wages war.^{(D) 12} His eyes are like blazing fire,^(E) and on his head are many crowns.^(F) He has a name written on him^(G) that no one knows but he himself.^{(H) 13} He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood,^(I) and his name is the Word of God.^{(J) 14} The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen,^(K) white^(L) and clean.

Threefold Woe Over Babylon’s Fall

⁹ “When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her^(A) and shared her luxury^(B) see the smoke of her burning,^(C) they will weep and mourn over her.^(D)

¹² “The ten horns^(A) you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour^(B) will receive authority as kings along with the beast. ¹³ They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast.^{(C) 14} They will wage war^(D) against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over^(E) them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings^(F)—and with him will be his called, chosen^(G) and faithful followers.”

⁴⁰ “At the time of the end the king of the South^(A) will engage him in battle, and the king of the North will storm^(B) out against him with chariots and cavalry and a great fleet of ships. He will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood.^{(C) 41} He will also invade the Beautiful Land.^(D) Many countries will fall, but Edom,^(E) Moab^(F) and the leaders of Ammon will be delivered from his hand. ⁴² He will extend his power over many countries; Egypt will not escape. ⁴³ He will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and all the riches of Egypt,^(G) with the Libyans^(H) and Cushites^[a] in submission. ⁴⁴ But reports from the east and the north will alarm him, and he will set out in a great rage to destroy and annihilate many. ⁴⁵ He will pitch his royal tents between the seas at^[b] the beautiful holy mountain.^(I) Yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.

²⁵ He will cause deceit^(A) to prosper, and he will consider himself superior. When they feel secure, he will destroy many and take his stand against the Prince of princes.^(B) Yet he will be destroyed, but not by human power.^(C)

²¹ As I watched, this horn was waging war against the holy people and defeating them,^{(A) 22} until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favor of the holy people of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom.^(B)

²³ “He gave me this explanation: ‘The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth, trampling it down and crushing it.^{(C) 24} The ten horns^(D) are ten kings who will come from this kingdom. After them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones; he will subdue three kings. ²⁵ He will speak against the Most High^(E) and oppress his holy people^(F) and try to change the set times^(G) and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time.^[a](H)

²⁶ “‘But the court will sit, and his power will be taken away and completely destroyed^(I) forever.
