¹⁴ The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have ^[a]gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all.

⁶ Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as ^(A)they also lusted.

¹⁶ For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, ^(A)the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. ¹⁷ And ^(B)the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

² You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and ^[a]war. ^[b]Yet you do not have because you do not ask.

²⁵ But Abraham said, ‘Son, ^(A)remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.

²⁰ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night ^(A)your soul will be required of you; ^(B)then whose will those things be which you have provided?’

⁴ Now the ^(A)mixed multitude who were among them ^[a]yielded to ^(B)intense craving; so the children of Israel also wept again and said: ^(C)“Who will give us meat to eat?

³⁴ So he called the name of that place ^[a]Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had yielded to craving.
