⁵ And I heard the angel in charge of the waters^[a] say,

¹⁷ saying,

^8 (A)“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, ^(B)“who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Greeting to the Seven Churches

⁴ John to the seven churches that are in Asia:

Grace to you and peace from ^(A)him ^(B)who is and ^(C)who was and who is to come, and from ^(D)the seven spirits who are before his throne,

³ And they sing ^(A)the song of Moses, ^(B)the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,

⁸ And the four living creatures, ^(A)each of them with six wings, are ^(B)full of eyes all around and within, and ^(C)day and night they never cease to say,

The Judgment at Christ's Coming

⁵ This is ^(A)evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be ^(B)considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering— ⁶ since indeed God considers it ^(C)just ^(D)to repay with affliction those who afflict you,

⁵ But if our unrighteousness serves to show the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unrighteous to inflict ^(A)wrath on us? (^(B)I speak in a human way.)
