¹⁹ Now ^(A)the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And ^(B)great Babylon ^(C)was remembered before God, ^(D)to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath.

^5 (A)For her sins ^[a]have reached to heaven, and ^(B)God has remembered her iniquities.

¹⁰ standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, ^(A)‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! ^(B)For in one hour your judgment has come.’

¹⁸ And the woman whom you saw ^(A)is that great city ^(B)which reigns over the kings of the earth.”

Finality of Babylon’s Fall

²¹ Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, ^(A)“Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and ^(B)shall not be found anymore.

¹⁶ and saying, ‘Alas, alas, ^(A)that great city ^(B)that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! ^17 (C)For in one hour such great riches ^[a]came to nothing.’ ^(D)Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance ^18 (E)and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ^(F)‘What is like this great city?’

^19 (G)“They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! ^(H)For in one hour she ^[b]is made desolate.’

² And he cried ^[a]mightily with a loud voice, saying, ^(A)“Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and ^(B)has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and ^(C)a cage for every unclean and hated bird!

⁵ And on her forehead a name was written:

^(A)MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT,
THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS
AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS
OF THE EARTH.
