^15 (A)“Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, ^(B)lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”

^42 (A)Watch therefore, for you do not know what ^[a]hour your Lord is coming. ^43 (B)But know this, that if the master of the house had known what ^[b]hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.

² For you yourselves know perfectly that ^(A)the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. ³ For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then ^(B)sudden destruction comes upon them, ^(C)as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.

¹⁸ I counsel you ^(A)to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and ^(B)white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.

The Day of the Lord

¹⁰ But ^(A)the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which ^(B)the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be ^[a]burned up.

^3 (A)Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and ^(B)repent. ^(C)Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you ^(D)as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. ^4 [a]You have ^(E)a few names ^[b]even in Sardis who have not ^(F)defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me ^(G)in white, for they are worthy.

^33 (A)Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. ^34 (B)It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave ^(C)authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. ^35 (D)Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning— ³⁶ lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. ³⁷ And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!”

^37 (A)Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them. ³⁸ And if he should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. ^39 (B)But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would ^[a]have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. ^40 (C)Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

⁴¹ Then Peter said to Him, “Lord, do You speak this parable only to us, or to all people?”

⁴² And the Lord said, ^(D)“Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food ^[b]in due season? ⁴³ Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.

³ if indeed, ^(A)having been clothed, we shall not be found naked.
