³ Then another sign appeared in heaven:^(A) an enormous red dragon^(B) with seven heads^(C) and ten horns^(D) and seven crowns^(E) on its heads.

¹² “The ten horns^(A) you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour^(B) will receive authority as kings along with the beast.

⁹ The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent^(A) called the devil,^(B) or Satan,^(C) who leads the whole world astray.^(D) He was hurled to the earth,^(E) and his angels with him.

¹⁶ The beast and the ten horns^(A) you saw will hate the prostitute.^(B) They will bring her to ruin^(C) and leave her naked;^(D) they will eat her flesh^(E) and burn her with fire.^(F)

⁷ Then the angel said to me: “Why are you astonished? I will explain to you the mystery^(A) of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns.^(B)

²⁴ The ten horns^(A) are ten kings who will come from this kingdom. After them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones; he will subdue three kings.

²⁰ I also wanted to know about the ten horns^(A) on its head and about the other horn that came up, before which three of them fell—the horn that looked more imposing than the others and that had eyes and a mouth that spoke boastfully.^(B)

² He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan,^(A) and bound him for a thousand years.^(B)

³ Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit^(A) into a wilderness.^(B) There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet^(C) beast that was covered with blasphemous names^(D) and had seven heads and ten horns.^{(E) 4} The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls.^(F) She held a golden cup^(G) in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries.^(H)
