27 І прийшли дочки Целофхада, сина Хеферового, сина Ґілеадового, сина Махірового, сина Манасіїного, з родів Манасії, сина Йосипового, а оце ймення дочок його: Махла, Ноа, і Хоґла, і Мілка, і Тірца.
2 І стали вони перед Мойсеєм і перед священиком Елеазаром та перед начальниками, і всією громадою при вході скинії заповіту, говорячи:
3 Наш батько помер у пустині, і він не був серед громади змовників на Господа в Кореєвій громаді, бо він помер за свій гріх, а синів він не мав.
4 Чому ймення нашого батька буде відняте з-посеред його роду, що немає в нього сина? Дай же нам володіння серед братів нашого батька!
5 І приніс Мойсей їхню справу перед Господнє лице.
6 І сказав Господь до Мойсея, говорячи:
7 Целофхадові дочки слушно говорять. Конче даси їм володіння спадкове серед братів їхнього батька, і зробиш, щоб перейшла їм спадщина їхнього батька.
8 А до Ізраїлевих синів будеш промовляти, говорячи: Коли хто помре, а сина в нього нема, то зробите, щоб спадок його перейшов дочці його.
9 А якщо в нього немає дочки, то дасте спадщину його братам його.
10 А якщо в нього немає братів, то дасте спадок його братам батька його.
11 А якщо в його батька немає братів, то дасте спадщину його родичеві, близькому йому з його роду, і він посяде його. А це стане для Ізраїлевих синів на правну постанову, як Господь наказав був Мойсеєві.
12 І сказав Господь до Мойсея: Вийди на цю гору Аварім, і побач той Край, що Я дав Ізраїлевим синам.
13 І побачиш його, і будеш прилучений до своєї рідні і ти, як був прилучений твій брат Аарон,
14 бо ви були неслухняні наказам Моїм у пустині Цін при сварці громади, щоб явилася святість Моя через воду на їхніх очах. Це вода Меріви Кадеської в пустині Цін.
15 І промовив Господь до Мойсея, говорячи:
16 Нехай призначить Господь, Бог духів і кожного тіла, чоловіка над громадою,
17 що вийде перед ними, і що ввійде перед ними, і що випровадить їх, і що впровадить їх, і не буде Господня громада, як отара, що не має пастуха.
18 І сказав Господь до Мойсея: Візьми собі Ісуса, Навинового сина, мужа, що в ньому Дух, і покладеш свою руку на нього.
19 І поставиш його перед священиком Елеазаром та перед усією громадою, і накажеш йому на їхніх очах.
20 І даси на нього з влади своєї, щоб чула вся громада Ізраїлевих синів.
21 І стане він перед священиком Елеазаром, і він запитає для нього вироку уріму перед Господнім лицем. І за наказом його вийдуть, і за наказом його ввійдуть він та всі Ізраїлеві сини з ним і вся громада.
22 І зробив Мойсей, як Господь наказав був йому. І взяв він Ісуса, і поставив його перед Елеазаром та перед усією громадою.
23 І поклав він руки свої на нього, і заповів йому, як Господь промовляв через Мойсея.

Inheritance Laws
27 Then came the daughters of (A)Zelophehad the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, from the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph; and these were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. 2 And they stood before Moses, before Eleazar the priest, and before the leaders and all the congregation, by the doorway of the tabernacle of meeting, saying: 3 “Our father (B)died in the wilderness; but he was not in the company of those who gathered together against the Lord, (C)in company with Korah, but he died in his own sin; and he had no sons. 4 Why should the name of our father be (D)removed[a] from among his family because he had no son? (E)Give us a [b]possession among our father’s brothers.”
5 So Moses (F)brought their case before the Lord.
6 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 7 “The daughters of Zelophehad speak what is right; (G)you shall surely give them a possession of inheritance among their father’s brothers, and cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them. 8 And you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘If a man dies and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter. 9 If he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 If he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. 11 And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to the relative closest to him in his family, and he shall possess it.’ ” And it shall be to the children of Israel (H)a statute of judgment, just as the Lord commanded Moses.
Joshua the Next Leader of Israel(I)
12 Now the Lord said to Moses: (J)“Go up into this Mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the children of Israel. 13 And when you have seen it, you also (K)shall [c]be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was gathered. 14 For in the Wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, you (L)rebelled against My command to hallow Me at the waters before their eyes.” (These are the (M)waters of Meribah, at Kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin.)
15 Then Moses spoke to the Lord, saying: 16 “Let the Lord, (N)the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, 17 (O)who may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be (P)like sheep which have no shepherd.”
18 And the Lord said to Moses: “Take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man (Q)in whom is the Spirit, and (R)lay your hand on him; 19 set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and (S)inaugurate[d] him in their sight. 20 And (T)you shall give some of your authority to him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel (U)may be obedient. 21 (V)He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire before the Lord for him (W)by the judgment of the Urim. (X)At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, he and all the children of Israel with him—all the congregation.”
22 So Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation. 23 And he laid his hands on him (Y)and [e]inaugurated him, just as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses.

Zelophehad’s Daughters(A)
27 The daughters of Zelophehad(B) son of Hepher,(C) the son of Gilead,(D) the son of Makir,(E) the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They came forward 2 and stood before Moses,(F) Eleazar the priest, the leaders(G) and the whole assembly at the entrance to the tent of meeting(H) and said, 3 “Our father died in the wilderness.(I) He was not among Korah’s followers, who banded together against the Lord,(J) but he died for his own sin and left no sons.(K) 4 Why should our father’s name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Give us property among our father’s relatives.”
5 So Moses brought their case(L) before the Lord,(M) 6 and the Lord said to him, 7 “What Zelophehad’s daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance(N) among their father’s relatives and give their father’s inheritance to them.(O)
8 “Say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, give his inheritance to his daughter. 9 If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. 11 If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to have the force of law(P) for the Israelites, as the Lord commanded Moses.’”
Joshua to Succeed Moses
12 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go up this mountain(Q) in the Abarim Range(R) and see the land(S) I have given the Israelites.(T) 13 After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people,(U) as your brother Aaron(V) was, 14 for when the community rebelled at the waters in the Desert of Zin,(W) both of you disobeyed my command to honor me as holy(X) before their eyes.” (These were the waters of Meribah(Y) Kadesh, in the Desert of Zin.)
15 Moses said to the Lord, 16 “May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things,(Z) appoint someone over this community 17 to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”(AA)
18 So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership,[a](AB) and lay your hand on him.(AC) 19 Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him(AD) in their presence.(AE) 20 Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him.(AF) 21 He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring(AG) of the Urim(AH) before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”
22 Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole assembly. 23 Then he laid his hands on him and commissioned him,(AI) as the Lord instructed through Moses.
