⁶ For we know that our old self^[a](A) was crucified with him^(B) so that the body ruled by sin^[b] might be rendered powerless^(C) so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin, ⁷ since a person who has died^(D) is freed^[c] from sin. ⁸ Now if we died with Christ,^(E) we believe that we will also live with him, ⁹ because we know that Christ, having been raised from the dead,^(F) will not die again. Death no longer rules over him.^{(G) 10} For the death he died, he died to sin once for all time; but the life he lives, he lives to God. ¹¹ So, you too consider yourselves dead to sin^(H) and alive to God in Christ Jesus.^[d]

¹² Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey^[e] its desires. ¹³ And do not offer any parts^[f] of it to sin^(I) as weapons for unrighteousness. But as those who are alive from the dead, offer yourselves to God,^(J) and all the parts of yourselves to God as weapons for righteousness. ¹⁴ For sin will not rule over you, because you are not under the law^(K) but under grace.^(L)

¹⁷ Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;^(A) the old has passed away, and see,^(B) the new has^[a] come!^{(C) 18} Everything is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.^{(D) 19} That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world^(E) to himself,^(F) not counting their trespasses against them, and he has committed the message of reconciliation to us.

²⁰ Therefore, we are ambassadors^(G) for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf,^(H) “Be reconciled to God.” ²¹ He made the one who did not know sin^(I) to be sin^[b] for us,^(J) so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

²⁶ for through faith you are all sons of God in Christ Jesus.

Sons and Heirs

²⁷ For those of you who were baptized into Christ have been clothed with Christ.^{(A) 28} There is no Jew or Greek, slave or free,^(B) male and female;^(C) since you are all one^(D) in Christ Jesus. ²⁹ And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, heirs^(E) according to the promise.^(F)
