17 Ne répondez jamais au mal par le mal. Cherchez au contraire à faire ce qui est bien devant tous les hommes. 18 Autant que possible, et dans la mesure où cela dépend de vous, vivez en paix avec tous les hommes. 19 Mes amis, ne vous vengez pas vous-mêmes, mais laissez agir la colère de Dieu, car il est écrit :
C’est à moi qu’il appartient de faire justice ;
c’est moi qui rendrai à chacun son dû[a] .
20 Mais voici votre part :
Si ton ennemi a faim, donne-lui à manger.
S’il a soif, donne-lui à boire.
Par là, ce sera comme si tu lui mettais
des charbons ardents sur la tête[b] .
21 Ne te laisse pas vaincre par le mal. Au contraire, sois vainqueur du mal par le bien.

17 不要以惡報惡。眾人以為美的事，要留心去做。 18 若是能行，總要盡力與眾人和睦。 19 親愛的弟兄，不要自己申冤，寧可讓步，聽憑主怒[a]；因為經上記著：「主說：申冤在我，我必報應。」 20 所以，「你的仇敵若餓了，就給他吃；若渴了，就給他喝。因為你這樣行，就是把炭火堆在他的頭上。」 21 你不可為惡所勝，反要以善勝惡。

17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil.(A) Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.(B) 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.(C) 19 Do not take revenge,(D) my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[a](E) says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”[b](F)
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
