Psalm 104
1 Prijs de Heer!
Heer mijn God, U bent geweldig.
U ziet er schitterend en indrukwekkend uit.
2 U bent gekleed in licht.
U zet de hemel op alsof het een tent is.
3 De zalen van uw paleis staan op het water boven de aarde.
De wolken zijn uw strijdwagens.
U wandelt op de vleugels van de wind.
4 Uw engelen zijn als de wind,
uw hemelse dienaren zijn als vuurvlammen.
5 U heeft de aarde stevig vastgezet,
zodat ze nooit meer wankelt.
6 In het begin was de aarde bedekt met water.
Het kwam tot boven de bergen.
7 Maar toen U het bestrafte, vluchtte het water.
Het vluchtte voor uw donderende stem.
8 Bergen kwamen omhoog en dalen zonken neer
op de plaats die U hun aanwees.
9 U gaf het water grenzen waar het niet voorbij mag gaan.
Het zal de aarde nooit meer bedekken.
10 U leidt het water van de bronnen naar de dalen.
Het slingert zich tussen de bergen door.
11 De dieren komen er drinken.
De wilde ezels gaan daarheen als ze dorst hebben.
12 Langs de beken wonen de vogels.
Tussen de takken zingen ze hun lied.
13 Vanuit uw hemelse paleis laat U regen vallen op de bergen.
Alles op aarde groeit en bloeit dankzij U.
14 U laat gras groeien voor het vee en planten voor de mensen.
Zo leven de mensen van wat er op aarde groeit.
15 Ze hebben wijn om hen vrolijk te maken,
olijf-olie om zich mee te verzorgen,
brood om sterk en gezond te blijven.
16 De bomen op de Libanon, door U geplant,
hebben water in overvloed.
17 De vogels bouwen er hun nesten.
De ooievaars wonen in de cipressen.
18 In de hoge bergen wonen de steenbokken.
Tussen de rotsen schuilen de klipdassen.
19 U heeft de maan gezegd wanneer hij moet opkomen.
De zon weet precies wanneer ze moet ondergaan.
20 Als U de duisternis stuurt, wordt het nacht.
Dan komen de wilde dieren tevoorschijn.
21 De leeuwen vragen U om eten.
Brullend gaan ze op jacht.
22 Als de zon opkomt, verbergen zij zich weer.
Ze kruipen in hun holen.
23 Dan gaan de mensen aan het werk.
Ze werken tot de avond.
24 Wat heeft U alles toch mooi gemaakt, Heer!
Alles zit zo knap en zo wijs in elkaar!
De aarde is vol met de prachtige dingen die U heeft gemaakt.
25 De grote wijde zee,
vol met ontelbare dieren, kleine en grote.
26 Daar varen de schepen,
daar spelen de zeemonsters[a] die U heeft gemaakt.
27 Alle dieren vertrouwen er op
dat U hun op tijd te eten geeft.
28 Wat U hun geeft, eten ze op.
U geeft hun altijd meer dan genoeg.
29 Maar als U hen in de steek laat, sterven ze.
Als U hun de adem afneemt, worden ze weer stof.
30 Als U met uw Geest over de aarde waait,
ontstaat er nieuw leven.
Alles op aarde wordt vernieuwd.
31 De Heer is voor eeuwig Koning.
Hij geniet van alles wat Hij heeft gemaakt.
32 Als Hij naar beneden kijkt, beeft de aarde.
Als Hij de bergen aanraakt, stijgt er rook uit op.
33 Ik zal voor de Heer zingen, zolang ik leef.
Ik zal voor mijn God liederen zingen, zolang ik besta.
34 Ik vind het heerlijk om aan de Heer te denken.
Ik zal altijd blij zijn met de Heer.
35 De slechte mensen op aarde zullen vernietigd worden.
Ze zullen niet blijven bestaan.
Prijs de Heer! Halleluja!

104 Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.
2 Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:
3 Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:
4 Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
5 Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.
6 Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.
7 At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.
8 They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.
9 Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.
10 He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills.
11 They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst.
12 By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches.
13 He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.
14 He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;
15 And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.
16 The trees of the Lord are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;
17 Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house.
18 The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies.
19 He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.
20 Thou makest darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth.
21 The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God.
22 The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens.
23 Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.
24 O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.
25 So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts.
26 There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein.
27 These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.
28 That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.
29 Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.
30 Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.
31 The glory of the Lord shall endure for ever: the Lord shall rejoice in his works.
32 He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke.
33 I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
34 My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the Lord.
35 Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the Lord, O my soul. Praise ye the Lord.
