Psalm 44
Bön när fienderna tycks segra
1 För sångmästaren, en sång av Koras söner.
2 Gud, med våra öron har vi hört,
våra fäder har berättat för oss
om den gärning du gjorde i deras tid, i forntidens dagar.
3 Det var du som med din hand fördrev hednafolken,
men dem planterade du.
Du förgjorde andra folk,
men dem lät du breda ut sig.
4 Det var ej med sitt svärd de intog landet,
deras egen arm gav dem ej seger,
utan din högra hand, din arm och ditt ansiktes ljus,
ty du älskade dem.
5 Det är du som är min konung, o Gud.
Ge befallning om Jakobs frälsning.
6 Genom dig skall vi slå ner våra fiender,
genom ditt namn trampa ner våra motståndare.
7 Jag litar inte på min båge,
mitt svärd kan inte frälsa mig.
8 Nej, du har frälst oss från våra ovänner,
dem som hatar oss låter du komma på skam.
9 Gud, vi lovar dig hela dagen,
ditt namn prisar vi för evigt. Sela.
10 Ändå har du förkastat oss
och låtit oss stå med skam,
du drar inte ut med våra härar.
11 Du låter oss vika tillbaka för fienden
och de som hatar oss tar byte.
12 Du låter oss bli uppätna som får,
du skingrar oss bland hednafolken.
13 Du säljer ditt folk för ingenting,
den vinst du gör är inte stor.
14 Du låter våra grannar håna oss,
från dem som bor omkring oss kommer spott och spe.
15 Du gör oss till ett ordspråk bland hednafolken,
du låter folken skaka på huvudet åt oss.
16 Hela dagen är min smälek inför mig,
blygsel täcker mitt ansikte,
17 när jag hör hånarens och baktalarens ord,
när jag ser fienden och den hämndgirige.
18 Allt detta har kommit över oss,
men vi har inte glömt dig
eller svikit ditt förbund.
19 Våra hjärtan vände sig inte bort,
våra steg vek inte av från din väg.
20 Men du har krossat oss där schakaler bor
och låtit dödsskugga falla över oss.
21 Om vi hade glömt vår Guds namn
och sträckt ut våra händer mot en främmande gud,
22 skulle då inte Gud ha upptäckt det,
han som känner hjärtats hemligheter?
23 Nej, för din skull dödas vi hela dagen,
vi räknas som slaktfår.
24 Vakna upp! Varför sover du, Herre?
Vakna! Förkasta oss ej för alltid.
25 Varför gömmer du ditt ansikte
och glömmer vårt lidande och betryck?
26 Vår själ är nerböjd i stoftet,
vår kropp ligger nertryckt till jorden.
27 Grip in och hjälp oss,
friköp oss för din nåds skull.

Utlämnad åt fiender
44 Gud, vi har hört om de stora under du gjorde för länge sedan.
2-3 Våra förfäder har berättat om hur du drev ut de främmande folken från detta land och gav det till oss. Du skingrade folken som bodde där, men vårt folk lät du breda ut sig och blomstra.
4 Vi vann inte seger genom vår egen styrka och med våra egna vapen, utan genom din mäktiga kraft, och du log mot oss och hjälpte oss eftersom du älskade oss.
5 Du är min kung och min Gud. Under ditt befäl segrade ditt folk,
6 för det är bara genom din kraft och genom ditt namn som vi kan trampa ner våra fiender.
7 Jag litar inte på mina vapen. De kan inte rädda mig.
8 Bara du kan ge oss seger över fienderna som hatar oss.
9 Jag är stolt över min Gud. Herre, jag kan aldrig tacka dig nog!
10 Och trots detta har du visat bort oss för en tid. När våra trupper drog ut till strid följde du inte med.
11 Attacken från våra fiender var så stark att vi måste fly. De intog vårt land och plundrade det.
12 Du tillät att vi slaktades som får, och de som kom undan med livet spreds ut bland främmande folk.
13 Du sålde oss för en struntsumma som om vi inte hade något värde alls.
14 Grannfolken skrattar och hånar oss för allt det onda du har gjort oss.
15 Du har sett till att ordet jude har blivit ett öknamn, föraktat och till en skam bland folken, avskytt av alla.
16-17 Jag är ständigt hånad och förolämpad och får hela tiden lyssna till hur mina fiender förbannar mig.
18 All denna olycka har kommit över oss, Herre, trots att vi aldrig har glömt dig. Och vi har inte överträtt ditt förbund.
19 Våra hjärtan har inte övergett dig! Inte med ett enda steg har vi vikit av från din väg.
20 Om vi hade gjort det, skulle vi ha förstått varför du lämnade oss bland schakaler i ödemarken och sände oss in i mörker och död.
21 Om vi hade glömt att tillbe vår Gud och i stället hade bett till andra gudar,
22 skulle då inte Gud genast ha vetat om det? Jo, för han känner varenda hemlig tanke.
23 Men nu är det för att vi tjänar dig som man förföljer och dödar oss! Vi är som får som väntar på att bli slaktade.
24 Vakna, Herre! Res dig upp! Varför sover du? Är vi förkastade för evigt?
25 Varför gömmer du dig för oss? Ser du inte vår sorg och vårt förtryck?
26 Förolämpade ligger vi med ansiktet i smutsen.
27 Grip in, Herre, och kom till vår hjälp! Rädda oss eftersom du älskar oss.

44 We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.
2 How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
4 Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.
5 Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.
6 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.
7 But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.
8 In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.
9 But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.
10 Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.
11 Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.
12 Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price.
13 Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.
14 Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.
15 My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
16 For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.
17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.
18 Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;
19 Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.
20 If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;
21 Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
23 Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.
24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth.
26 Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies' sake.

44 We have heard with our ears, O God,
(B)Our fathers have told us,
The deeds You did in their days,
In days of old:
2 (C)You drove out the [b]nations with Your hand,
But them You planted;
You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out.
3 For (D)they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword,
Nor did their own arm save them;
But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance,
(E)Because You favored them.
4 (F)You are my King, [c]O God;
[d]Command victories for Jacob.
5 Through You (G)we will push down our enemies;
Through Your name we will trample those who rise up against us.
6 For (H)I will not trust in my bow,
Nor shall my sword save me.
7 But You have saved us from our enemies,
And have put to shame those who hated us.
8 (I)In God we boast all day long,
And praise Your name forever. Selah
9 But (J)You have cast us off and put us to shame,
And You do not go out with our armies.
10 You make us (K)turn back from the enemy,
And those who hate us have taken [e]spoil for themselves.
11 (L)You have given us up like sheep intended for food,
And have (M)scattered us among the nations.
12 (N)You sell Your people for next to nothing,
And are not enriched by selling them.

A scorn and a derision to those all around us.

15 My dishonor is continually before me,
And the shame of my face has covered me,
16 Because of the voice of him who reproaches and reviles,
(R)Because of the enemy and the avenger.
17 (S)All this has come upon us;
But we have not forgotten You,
Nor have we dealt falsely with Your covenant.
18 Our heart has not turned back,
(T)Nor have our steps departed from Your way;
19 But You have severely broken us in (U)the place of jackals,
And covered us (V)with the shadow of death.
20 If we had forgotten the name of our God,
Or (W)stretched[f] out our hands to a foreign god,
21 (X)Would not God search this out?
For He knows the secrets of the heart.
22 (Y)Yet for Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
23 (Z)Awake! Why do You sleep, O Lord?
Arise! Do not cast us off forever.
24 (AA)Why do You hide Your face,
And forget our affliction and our oppression?
25 For (AB)our soul is bowed down to the [g]dust;
Our body clings to the ground.
26 Arise for our help,
And redeem us for Your mercies’ sake.
