Tacksägelse för befrielse ur stor nöd
1 En vallfartssång av David.
Om Herren inte varit med oss
- så skall Israel säga -
2 om Herren inte varit med oss
när människor reste sig upp mot oss,
3 då hade de slukat oss levande
när deras vrede upptändes mot oss,
4 då hade vattnen dränkt oss,
strömmen sköljt över oss,
5 ja, då hade de väldiga vattenmassorna
sköljt över oss.
6 Lovad vare Herren,
som inte gav oss till rov åt deras tänder.
7 Vår själ kom undan som en fågel
ur fågelfängarens snara,
snaran gick sönder
och vi kom undan.
8 Vår hjälp är i Herrens namn,
hans som har gjort himmel och jord.

1 If the Lord had not been on our side—
let Israel say(A)—
2 if the Lord had not been on our side
when people attacked us,
3 they would have swallowed us alive
when their anger flared against us;
4 the flood(B) would have engulfed us,
the torrent(C) would have swept over us,
5 the raging waters
would have swept us away.

124 If it had not been Jehovah who was on our side,
Let Israel now say,
2 If it had not been Jehovah who was on our side,
When men rose up against us;
3 Then they had swallowed us up alive,
When their wrath was kindled against us:
4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us,
The stream had gone over our soul;
5 Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.
6 Blessed be Jehovah,
Who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
7 Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers:
The snare is broken, and we are escaped.
8 Our help is in the name of Jehovah,
Who made heaven and earth.
