² When evildoers assail me
    to ^(D)eat up my flesh,
my adversaries and foes,
    it is they who stumble and fall.

^3 (E)Though an army encamp against me,
    my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
    yet^[b] I will be confident.

^4 (F)One thing have I asked of the Lord,
    that will I seek after:
that I may ^(G)dwell in the house of the Lord
    all the days of my life,
to gaze upon ^(H)the beauty of the Lord
    and to inquire^[c] in his temple.

⁵ For he will ^(I)hide me in his shelter
    in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
    he will ^(J)lift me high upon a rock.

⁶ And now my ^(K)head shall be lifted up
    above my enemies all around me,
and I will offer in his tent
    sacrifices with shouts of ^(L)joy;
^(M)I will sing and make melody to the Lord.

^7 (N)Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud;
    be gracious to me and answer me!
⁸ You have said, ^(O)“Seek^[d] my face.”
My heart says to you,
    “Your face, Lord, do I seek.”^{[e]
9     (P)}Hide not your face from me.
Turn not your servant away in anger,
    O you who have been my help.
Cast me not off; forsake me not,
    ^(Q)O God of my salvation!
¹⁰ For ^(R)my father and my mother have forsaken me,
    but the Lord will ^(S)take me in.

^11 (T)Teach me your way, O Lord,
    and lead me on ^(U)a level path
    because of my enemies.
^12 (V)Give me not up to the will of my adversaries;
    for ^(W)false witnesses have risen against me,
    and they ^(X)breathe out violence.

¹³ I believe that I shall look^[f] upon ^(Y)the goodness of the Lord
    in ^(Z)the land of the living!
^14 (AA)Wait for the Lord;
    ^(AB)be strong, and let your heart take courage;
    wait for the Lord!

⁴ For behold, ^(H)the kings assembled;
    they came on together.
⁵ As soon as they saw it, they were astounded;
    they were in panic; they took to flight.
^6 (I)Trembling took hold of them there,
    anguish ^(J)as of a woman in labor.
⁷ By ^(K)the east wind you ^(L)shattered
    the ships of ^(M)Tarshish.
⁸ As we have heard, so have we seen
    in the city of the Lord of hosts,
in ^(N)the city of our God,
    which God will ^(O)establish forever. Selah

⁹ We have thought on your ^(P)steadfast love, O God,
    in the midst of your temple.
¹⁰ As your ^(Q)name, O God,
    so your praise reaches to ^(R)the ends of the earth.
Your right hand is filled with righteousness.
¹¹     Let Mount ^(S)Zion be glad!
Let ^(T)the daughters of Judah rejoice
    because of your judgments!

¹² Walk about Zion, go around her,
    number her towers,
¹³ consider well her ^(U)ramparts,
    go through her citadels,
^(V)that you may tell the next generation
¹⁴     that this is God,
our God forever and ever.
    He will ^(W)guide us forever.^[a]

³ Even the sparrow finds a home,
    and the swallow a nest for herself,
    where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
    ^(H)my King and my God.
^4 (I)Blessed are those who dwell in your house,
    ever ^(J)singing your praise! Selah

⁵ Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
    ^(K)in whose heart are the highways to Zion.^[b]
6 As they go through the Valley of Baca
    they make it a place of springs;
    ^(L)the early rain also covers it with ^(M)pools.
⁷ They go ^(N)from strength to strength;
    each one ^(O)appears before God in Zion.

⁸ O ^(P)Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
    give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah
^9 (Q)Behold our ^(R)shield, O God;
    look on the face of your anointed!

¹⁰ For a day ^(S)in your courts is better
    than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be ^(T)a doorkeeper in the house of my God
    than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
¹¹ For the Lord God is ^(U)a sun and ^(V)shield;
    the Lord bestows favor and honor.
^(W)No good thing does he withhold
    from those who ^(X)walk uprightly.
¹² O Lord of hosts,
    ^(Y)blessed is the one who trusts in you!

³ Jerusalem—^(C)built as a city
    that is ^(D)bound firmly together,
⁴ to which the tribes ^(E)go up,
    the tribes of the Lord,
as was ^(F)decreed for^[a] Israel,
    to give thanks to the name of the Lord.
⁵ There ^(G)thrones for judgment were set,
    the thrones of the house of David.

^6 (H)Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
    “May they be secure who love you!
⁷ Peace be within your ^(I)walls
    and security within your ^(J)towers!”
⁸ For my brothers and companions' sake
    I will say, ^(K)“Peace be within you!”
⁹ For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
    I will ^(L)seek your good.
