My Rock and My Fortress

Of David.

144 Blessed be the Lord, my (A)rock,
    (B)who trains my hands for war,
    and my fingers for battle;
he is my (C)steadfast love and my (D)fortress,
    my (E)stronghold and my deliverer,
my (F)shield and he in whom I take refuge,
    who (G)subdues peoples[a] under me.

O Lord, (H)what is man that you (I)regard him,
    or the son of man that you think of him?
(J)Man is like a breath;
    his days are like (K)a passing (L)shadow.

(M)Bow your heavens, O Lord, and come down!
    (N)Touch the mountains so that they smoke!
(O)Flash forth the lightning and scatter them;
    (P)send out your arrows and rout them!
(Q)Stretch out your hand from on high;
    (R)rescue me and deliver me from the many waters,
    from the hand (S)of foreigners,
whose mouths speak (T)lies
    and whose right hand is (U)a right hand of falsehood.

I will sing (V)a new song to you, O God;
    upon (W)a ten-stringed harp I will play to you,
10 who gives victory to kings,
    who (X)rescues David his servant from the cruel sword.
11 Rescue me and deliver me
    from the hand (Y)of foreigners,
whose mouths speak (Z)lies
    and whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.

12 May our sons in their youth
    be like (AA)plants full grown,
our daughters like (AB)corner pillars
    cut for the structure of a palace;
13 (AC)may our granaries be full,
    (AD)providing all kinds of produce;
may our sheep bring forth thousands
    and ten thousands in our fields;
14 may our cattle be heavy with young,
    suffering no mishap or failure in bearing;[b]
may there be no (AE)cry of distress in our streets!
15 (AF)Blessed are the people to whom such blessings fall!
    (AG)Blessed are the people whose God is the Lord!

The Daughters of Zelophehad

27 Then drew near the daughters of (A)Zelophehad the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, from the clans of Manasseh the son of Joseph. The names of his daughters were: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. And they stood before Moses and before Eleazar the priest and before the chiefs and all the congregation, at the entrance of the tent of meeting, saying, “Our father (B)died in the wilderness. He was not among the company of those who gathered themselves together against the Lord (C)in the company of Korah, but (D)died for his own sin. And he had no sons. Why should the name of our father be taken away from his clan because he had no son? (E)Give to us a possession among our father's brothers.”

Moses (F)brought their case before the Lord. And the Lord said to Moses, “The daughters of Zelophehad (G)are right. (H)You shall give them possession of an inheritance among their father's brothers and transfer the inheritance of their father to them. And you shall speak to the people of Israel, saying, ‘If a man dies and has no son, then you shall transfer his inheritance to his daughter. And if he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. 10 And if he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father's brothers. 11 And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to the nearest (I)kinsman of his clan, and he shall possess it. And it shall be for the people of Israel (J)a statute and rule, as the Lord commanded Moses.’”

Joshua to Succeed Moses

12 The Lord said to Moses, “Go up into (K)this mountain of Abarim and see the land that I have given to the people of Israel. 13 When you have seen it, you also (L)shall be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was, 14 (M)because you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin when the congregation quarreled, failing (N)to uphold me as holy at the waters before their eyes.” (These are (O)the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.) 15 Moses spoke to the Lord, saying, 16 “Let the Lord, (P)the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation 17 who (Q)shall go out before them and come in before them, who shall lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be (R)as sheep that have no shepherd.” 18 So the Lord said to Moses, “Take (S)Joshua the son of Nun, a man (T)in whom is the Spirit, and (U)lay your hand on him. 19 Make him stand before Eleazar the priest and all the congregation, and you shall (V)commission him in their sight. 20 You shall invest him with some of your authority, (W)that all the congregation of the people of Israel may obey. 21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him (X)by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.” 22 And Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and made him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation, 23 and he laid his hands on him and (Y)commissioned him as the Lord directed through Moses.

Jesus Cleanses Ten Lepers

11 (A)On the way to Jerusalem (B)he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers,[a] (C)who stood at a distance 13 and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” 14 When he saw them he said to them, “Go and (D)show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. 15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, (E)praising God with a loud voice; 16 and (F)he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was (G)a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus answered, “Were not (H)ten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Was no one found to return and (I)give praise to God except this (J)foreigner?” 19 And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; (K)your faith has (L)made you well.”[b]

The Coming of the Kingdom

20 Being asked by the Pharisees (M)when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God (N)is not coming in ways that can be observed, 21 nor (O)will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”[c]

22 And he said to the disciples, (P)“The days are coming when you will desire (Q)to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. 23 (R)And they will say to you, ‘Look, there!’ or ‘Look, here!’ Do not go out or follow them. 24 (S)For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be (T)in his day.[d] 25 But first (U)he must suffer many things and (V)be rejected by this generation. 26 (W)Just as it was in the days of (X)Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 (Y)They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise, just as it was in the days of (Z)Lot—they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, 29 (AA)but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all— 30 so will it be (AB)on the day when the Son of Man is revealed. 31 On that day, (AC)let the one who is on (AD)the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away, and likewise let the one who is in the field not turn back. 32 (AE)Remember Lot's wife. 33 (AF)Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will (AG)keep it. 34 I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be taken and the other left. 35 (AH)There will be two women (AI)grinding together. One will be taken and the other left.”[e] 37 And they said to him, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, (AJ)“Where the corpse[f] is, there the vultures[g] will gather.”
