His Steadfast Love Endures Forever

A Psalm for (A)giving thanks.

100 (B)Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
    (C)Serve the Lord with gladness!
    (D)Come into his presence with singing!

Know that (E)the Lord, he is God!
    It is he who (F)made us, and (G)we are his;[a]
    we are his (H)people, and (I)the sheep of his pasture.

(J)Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
    and his (K)courts with praise!
    Give thanks to him; (L)bless his name!

(M)For the Lord is good;
    his steadfast love endures forever,
    and his (N)faithfulness to all generations.

I Will Walk with Integrity

A Psalm of David.

101 I will sing of (O)steadfast love and justice;
    to you, O Lord, I will make music.
I will (P)ponder the way (Q)that is blameless.
    Oh when will you (R)come to me?
I will (S)walk with (T)integrity of heart
    within my house;
I will not set before my eyes
    anything (U)that is worthless.
I hate the work of those who (V)fall away;
    it shall not cling to me.
(W)A perverse heart shall be far from me;
    I will (X)know nothing of evil.

Whoever slanders his neighbor (Y)secretly
    I will (Z)destroy.
Whoever has a (AA)haughty look and an (AB)arrogant heart
    I will not endure.

I will look with favor on the faithful in the land,
    that they may dwell with me;
he who walks in (AC)the way that is blameless
    shall minister to me.

No one who (AD)practices deceit
    shall dwell in my house;
no one who utters lies
    shall (AE)continue before my eyes.

(AF)Morning by morning I will destroy
    all the wicked in the land,
(AG)cutting off all (AH)the evildoers
    from (AI)the city of the Lord.

Do Not Hide Your Face from Me

A Prayer of one afflicted, when he is (AJ)faint and (AK)pours out his complaint before the Lord.

102 (AL)Hear my prayer, O Lord;
let my cry (AM)come to you!
(AN)Do not hide your face from me
    in (AO)the day of my distress!
(AP)Incline your ear to me;
    (AQ)answer me speedily (AR)in the day when I call!

For my days (AS)pass away like smoke,
    and my (AT)bones burn like a furnace.
My heart is (AU)struck down like grass and (AV)has withered;
    I (AW)forget to eat my bread.
Because of my loud groaning
    my (AX)bones cling to my flesh.
I am like (AY)a desert owl of the wilderness,
    like an owl[b] of the waste places;
I (AZ)lie awake;
    I am like a lonely sparrow on the housetop.
All the day my enemies taunt me;
    those who (BA)deride me (BB)use my name for a curse.
For I eat ashes like bread
    and (BC)mingle tears with my drink,
10 because of your indignation and anger;
    for you have (BD)taken me up and (BE)thrown me down.
11 My days are like (BF)an evening shadow;
    I (BG)wither away like grass.

12 But you, O Lord, are (BH)enthroned forever;
    you (BI)are remembered throughout all generations.
13 You will (BJ)arise and have (BK)pity on Zion;
    it is the time to favor her;
    (BL)the appointed time has come.
14 For your servants hold her (BM)stones dear
    and have pity on her dust.
15 Nations will (BN)fear the name of the Lord,
    and all (BO)the kings of the earth will fear your glory.
16 For the Lord (BP)builds up Zion;
    he (BQ)appears in his glory;
17 he (BR)regards the prayer of the destitute
    and does not despise their prayer.

18 Let this be (BS)recorded for (BT)a generation to come,
    so that (BU)a people yet to be created may praise the Lord:
19 that he (BV)looked down from his holy height;
    from heaven the Lord looked at the earth,
20 to hear (BW)the groans of the prisoners,
    to set free (BX)those who were doomed to die,
21 that they may (BY)declare in Zion the name of the Lord,
    and in Jerusalem his praise,
22 when (BZ)peoples gather together,
    and kingdoms, to worship the Lord.

23 He has broken my strength in midcourse;
    he (CA)has shortened my days.
24 “O my God,” (CB)I say, “take me not away
    in the midst of my days—
(CC)you whose years endure
    throughout all generations!”

25 (CD)Of old you laid the foundation of the earth,
    and (CE)the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 (CF)They will perish, but (CG)you will remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment.
You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away,
27     but (CH)you are the same, and your years have no end.
28 (CI)The children of your servants (CJ)shall dwell secure;
    (CK)their offspring shall be established before you.

By Faith, or by Works of the Law?

O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? (A)It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly (B)portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this: (C)Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by (D)hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? (E)Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by[a] the flesh? (F)Did you suffer[b] so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and (G)works miracles among you do so (H)by works of the law, or by hearing with faith— just as (I)Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”?

Know then that it is (J)those of faith who are (K)the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that (L)God would justify[c] the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, (M)“In you shall all the nations be blessed.” So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

10 For all who rely on works of the law are (N)under a curse; for it is written, (O)“Cursed be everyone who does not (P)abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” 11 Now it is evident that (Q)no one is justified before God by the law, for (R)“The righteous shall live by faith.”[d] 12 But the law is not of faith, rather (S)“The one who does them shall live by them.” 13 Christ (T)redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, (U)“Cursed is everyone who is hanged (V)on a tree”— 14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might (W)come to the Gentiles, so that (X)we might receive (Y)the promised Spirit[e] through faith.

The Law and the Promise

15 (Z)To give a human example, brothers:[f] (AA)even with a man-made covenant, no one annuls it or adds to it once it has been ratified. 16 Now (AB)the promises were made (AC)to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, (AD)“And to your offspring,” who is Christ. 17 This is what I mean: the law, which came (AE)430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as (AF)to make the promise void. 18 For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but (AG)God gave it to Abraham by a promise.

19 Why then the law? (AH)It was added because of transgressions, (AI)until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was (AJ)put in place through angels (AK)by an intermediary. 20 Now (AL)an intermediary implies more than one, but (AM)God is one.

21 Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For (AN)if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law. 22 But the Scripture (AO)imprisoned everything under sin, so that (AP)the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given (AQ)to those who believe.

23 Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, (AR)imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. 24 So then, (AS)the law was our (AT)guardian until Christ came, (AU)in order that we might be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, 26 for in Christ Jesus (AV)you are all sons of God, through faith. 27 For as many of you as (AW)were baptized (AX)into Christ have (AY)put on Christ. 28 (AZ)There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave[g] nor free, (BA)there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And (BB)if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, (BC)heirs according to promise.
