Psalm 92

Praise for the Lord’s Goodness.

A Psalm, a Song for the Sabbath day.

92 It is ^(A)good to give thanks to the Lord
And to ^(B)sing praises to Your name, Most High;
²To ^(C)declare Your goodness in the morning
And Your ^(D)faithfulness by ^[a]night,
³^[b]With the ^(E)ten-stringed lute and ^[c]with the ^(F)harp,
^[d]With resounding music on the ^(G)lyre.
⁴For You, Lord, have made me joyful by ^[e]what You ^(H)have done,
I will ^(I)sing for joy over the ^(J)works of Your hands.

⁵How ^(K)great are Your works, Lord!
Your ^[f]^(L)thoughts are very ^(M)deep.
⁶A ^(N)stupid person has no knowledge,
Nor does a ^(O)foolish person understand this:
⁷When the wicked ^(P)sprouted up like grass
And all ^(Q)who did injustice flourished,
It was only that they might be ^(R)destroyed forevermore.
⁸But You, Lord, are ^(S)on high forever.
⁹For, behold, Your enemies, Lord,
For, behold, ^(T)Your enemies will perish;
All who do injustice will be ^(U)scattered.

¹⁰But You have exalted my ^(V)horn like that of the wild ox;
I have ^[g]been ^(W)anointed with fresh oil.
¹¹And my eye has ^(X)looked at my enemies,
My ears hear of the evildoers who rise up against me.
¹²The ^(Y)righteous person will ^[h]flourish like the palm tree,
He will grow like a ^(Z)cedar in Lebanon.
¹³^(AA)Planted in the house of the Lord,
They will flourish ^(AB)in the courtyards of our God.
¹⁴They will still ^[i]^(AC)yield fruit in advanced age;
They will be ^[j]full of sap and very green,
¹⁵To ^[k]declare that ^(AD)the Lord is just;
He is my ^(AE)rock, and there is ^(AF)no malice in Him.

A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day.

¹It is good to praise the Lord
    and make music^(A) to your name,^(B) O Most High,^(C)
²proclaiming your love in the morning^(D)
    and your faithfulness at night,
³to the music of the ten-stringed lyre^(E)
    and the melody of the harp.^(F)

⁴For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;
    I sing for joy^(G) at what your hands have done.^(H)
⁵How great are your works,^(I) Lord,
    how profound your thoughts!^(J)
⁶Senseless people^(K) do not know,
    fools do not understand,
⁷that though the wicked spring up like grass
    and all evildoers flourish,
    they will be destroyed forever.^(L)

⁸But you, Lord, are forever exalted.

⁹For surely your enemies^(M), Lord,
    surely your enemies will perish;
    all evildoers will be scattered.^(N)
¹⁰You have exalted my horn^[b]^(O) like that of a wild ox;^(P)
    fine oils^(Q) have been poured on me.
¹¹My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries;
    my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.^(R)

¹²The righteous will flourish^(S) like a palm tree,
    they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;^(T)
¹³planted in the house of the Lord,
    they will flourish in the courts of our God.^(U)
¹⁴They will still bear fruit^(V) in old age,
    they will stay fresh and green,
¹⁵proclaiming, “The Lord is upright;
    he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.^(W)”

Israel Invoked to Praise the Lord.

149 ^[a]Praise ^[b]the Lord!
Sing a ^(A)new song to the Lord,
And His praise ^(B)in the congregation of the godly ones.
²Israel shall be joyful in ^(C)his Maker;
The sons of Zion shall rejoice in their ^(D)King.
³They shall praise His name with ^(E)dancing;
They shall sing praises to Him with ^(F)tambourine and lyre.
⁴For the Lord ^(G)takes pleasure in His people;
He will ^(H)glorify the lowly with salvation.

⁵The ^(I)godly ones shall be jubilant in glory;
They shall ^(J)sing for joy on their beds.
⁶The ^(K)high praises of God shall be in their ^[c]mouths,
And a ^(L)two-edged ^(M)sword in their hands,
⁷To ^(N)execute vengeance on the nations,
And punishment on the peoples,
⁸To bind their kings ^(O)with chains,
And their ^(P)dignitaries with shackles of iron,
⁹To ^(Q)execute against them the judgment written.
This is an ^(R)honor for all His godly ones.

¹Praise the Lord.^[a]^(A)

Sing to the Lord a new song,^(B)
his praise in the assembly^(C) of his faithful people.

²Let Israel rejoice^(D) in their Maker;^(E)
    let the people of Zion be glad in their King.^(F)
³Let them praise his name with dancing^(G)
    and make music to him with timbrel and harp.^(H)
⁴For the Lord takes delight^(I) in his people;
    he crowns the humble with victory.^(J)
⁵Let his faithful people rejoice^(K) in this honor
    and sing for joy on their beds.^(L)

⁶May the praise of God be in their mouths^(M)
    and a double-edged^(N) sword in their hands,^(O)
⁷to inflict vengeance^(P) on the nations
    and punishment^(Q) on the peoples,
⁸to bind their kings with fetters,^(R)
    their nobles with shackles of iron,^(S)
⁹to carry out the sentence written against them—^(T)
    this is the glory of all his faithful people.^(U)

²²“Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Lord God says: “It is ^(A)not for your sake, house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for My holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you went. ²³And I will ^(B)vindicate the holiness of My great name which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned among them. Then the ^(C)nations will know that I am the Lord,” declares the Lord God, “when I show Myself holy among you in their sight. ²⁴For I will ^(D)take you from the nations, and gather you from all the lands; and I will bring you into your own land. ²⁵Then I will ^(E)sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your ^(F)filthiness and from all your ^(G)idols. ²⁶Moreover, I will give you a ^(H)new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the ^(I)heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. ²⁷And I will ^(J)put My Spirit within you and bring it about that you walk in My statutes, and are careful and ^[a]follow My ordinances.

Ephesians 6

Children and Parents

6 ^(A)Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ²^(B)Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), ³so that it may turn out well for you, and that you may live long on the earth.

⁴^(C)Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but ^(D)bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Slaves and Masters

⁵^(E)Slaves, be obedient to those who are your ^[a]masters according to the flesh, with ^(F)fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, ^(G)as to Christ; ⁶^(H)not ^[b]by way of ^[c]eye-service, as ^(I)people-pleasers, but as ^(J)slaves of Christ, ^(K)doing the will of God from the ^[d]heart. ⁷With goodwill ^[e]render service, ^(L)as to the Lord, and not to people, ⁸^(M)knowing that ^(N)whatever good thing each one does, he will receive this back from the Lord, ^(O)whether slave or free.

⁹And masters, do the same things to them, and ^(P)give up threatening, knowing that ^(Q)both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is ^(R)no partiality with Him.

The Armor of God

¹⁰Finally, ^(S)be strong in the Lord and in ^(T)the strength of His might. ¹¹^(U)Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the ^(V)schemes of the devil. ¹²For our ^(W)struggle is not against ^[f]^(X)flesh and blood, but ^(Y)against the rulers, against the powers, against the ^(Z)world forces of this ^(AA)darkness, against the ^(AB)spiritual forces of wickedness in ^(AC)the heavenly places. ¹³Therefore, take up ^(AD)the full armor of God, so that you will be able to ^(AE)resist on ^(AF)the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. ¹⁴Stand firm therefore, ^(AG)having belted your waist with truth, and having ^(AH)put on the breastplate of righteousness, ¹⁵and having ^(AI)strapped on your feet the preparation of the gospel of peace; ¹⁶^[g]in addition to all, taking up the ^(AJ)shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the ^(AK)flaming arrows of ^(AL)the evil one. ¹⁷And take ^(AM)the helmet of salvation and the ^(AN)sword of the Spirit, which is ^(AO)the word of God.

¹⁸^[h]With every ^(AP)prayer and request, ^[i]^(AQ)pray at all times ^(AR)in the Spirit, and with this in view, ^[j]^(AS)be alert with all ^(AT)perseverance and every ^(AU)request for all the ^[k]saints, ¹⁹and ^(AV)pray in my behalf, that speech may be given to me ^(AW)in the opening of my mouth, to make known with ^(AX)boldness ^(AY)the mystery of the gospel, ²⁰for which I am an ^(AZ)ambassador ^(BA)in ^[l]chains; that ^[m]in proclaiming it I may speak ^(BB)boldly, ^(BC)as I ought to speak.

²¹^(BD)Now, so that you also may know about my circumstances as to ^[n]what I am doing, ^(BE)Tychicus, ^(BF)the beloved brother and faithful ^[o]servant in the Lord, will make everything known to you. ²²^[p]^(BG)I have sent him to you for this very purpose, so that you may know ^[q]about us, and that he may ^(BH)comfort your hearts.

⁴Fathers,^[b] do not exasperate your children;^(C) instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.^(D)

⁵Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect^(E) and fear, and with sincerity of heart,^(F) just as you would obey Christ.^(G) ⁶Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ,^(H) doing the will of God from your heart. ⁷Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people,^(I) ⁸because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do,^(J) whether they are slave or free.

⁹And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours^(K) is in heaven, and there is no favoritism^(L) with him.

The Armor of God

¹⁰Finally, be strong in the Lord^(M) and in his mighty power.^(N) ¹¹Put on the full armor of God,^(O) so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. ¹²For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,^(P) but against the rulers, against the authorities,^(Q) against the powers^(R) of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.^(S) ¹³Therefore put on the full armor of God,^(T) so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. ¹⁴Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist,^(U) with the breastplate of righteousness in place,^(V) ¹⁵and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.^(W) ¹⁶In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith,^(X) with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.^(Y) ¹⁷Take the helmet of salvation^(Z) and the sword of the Spirit,^(AA) which is the word of God.^(AB)

¹⁸And pray in the Spirit^(AC) on all occasions^(AD) with all kinds of prayers and requests.^(AE) With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying^(AF) for all the Lord’s people. ¹⁹Pray also for me,^(AG) that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly^(AH) make known the mystery^(AI) of the gospel, ²⁰for which I am an ambassador^(AJ) in chains.^(AK) Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

Final Greetings

²¹Tychicus,^(AL) the dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know how I am and what I am doing. ²²I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are,^(AM) and that he may encourage you.^(AN)

²³Peace^(AO) to the brothers and sisters,^[c] and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.^[d]

²⁰And behold, a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years came up behind Him, and touched ^(C)the ^[d]border of His ^[e]cloak; ²¹for she was ^[f]saying ^[g]to herself, “If I only ^(D)touch His cloak, I will ^[h]get well.” ²²But Jesus, turning and seeing her, said, “Daughter, ^(E)take courage; ^(F)your faith has ^[i]made you well.” And ^[j]at once the woman was ^[k]made well.

¹⁸While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him^(B) and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her,^(C) and she will live.” ¹⁹Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.

²⁰Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.^(D) ²¹She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”

²²Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart,^(E) daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.”^(F) And the woman was healed at that moment.^(G)

²³When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes,^(H) ²⁴he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead^(I) but asleep.”^(J) But they laughed at him. ²⁵After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.^(K) ²⁶News of this spread through all that region.^(L)
