Psalm 17:6-15

⁶I ^(A)call upon you, for you will answer me, O God;
    ^(B)incline your ear to me; hear my words.
⁷^(C)Wondrously show^[a] your steadfast love,
    O Savior of those who seek refuge
    from ^(D)their adversaries at your right hand.

⁸Keep me as ^(E)the apple of your eye;
hide me in ^(F)the shadow of your wings,
⁹from the wicked who do me violence,
my deadly enemies who ^(G)surround me.

¹⁰^(H)They close their hearts to pity;
    with their mouths they ^(I)speak arrogantly.
¹¹They have now surrounded our ^(J)steps;
    they set their eyes to ^(K)cast us to the ground.
¹²He is like a lion eager to tear,
    as a young lion ^(L)lurking in ambush.

¹³Arise, O Lord! Confront him, subdue him!
    Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword,
¹⁴from men by your hand, O Lord,
    from ^(M)men of the world whose ^(N)portion is in this life.^[b]
You fill their womb with treasure;^[c]
    they are satisfied with ^(O)children,
    and they leave their abundance to their infants.

¹⁵As for me, I shall ^(P)behold your face in righteousness;
when I ^(Q)awake, I shall be ^(R)satisfied with your likeness.

    turn your ear to me^(B) and hear my prayer.^(C)
⁷Show me the wonders of your great love,^(D)
    you who save by your right hand^(E)
    those who take refuge^(F) in you from their foes.
⁸Keep me^(G) as the apple of your eye;^(H)
    hide me^(I) in the shadow of your wings^(J)
⁹from the wicked who are out to destroy me,
    from my mortal enemies who surround me.^(K)

¹⁰They close up their callous hearts,^(L)
    and their mouths speak with arrogance.^(M)
¹¹They have tracked me down, they now surround me,^(N)
    with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
¹²They are like a lion^(O) hungry for prey,^(P)
    like a fierce lion crouching in cover.

¹³Rise up,^(Q) Lord, confront them, bring them down;^(R)
    with your sword rescue me from the wicked.
¹⁴By your hand save me from such people, Lord,
    from those of this world^(S) whose reward is in this life.^(T)
May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies;
    may their children gorge themselves on it,
    and may there be leftovers^(U) for their little ones.
