Psalm 148

Praise for God’s Universal Glory

Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
    praise him in the heights!
Praise him, all his angels;
    praise him, all his host!(A)

Praise him, sun and moon;
    praise him, all you shining stars!
Praise him, you highest heavens
    and you waters above the heavens!(B)

Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for he commanded and they were created.(C)
He established them forever and ever;
    he fixed their bounds, which cannot be passed.[a](D)

Praise the Lord from the earth,
    you sea monsters and all deeps,(E)
fire and hail, snow and frost,
    stormy wind fulfilling his command!(F)

Mountains and all hills,
    fruit trees and all cedars!(G)
10 Wild animals and all cattle,
    creeping things and flying birds!

11 Kings of the earth and all peoples,
    princes and all rulers of the earth!
12 Young men and women alike,
    old and young together!

13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for his name alone is exalted;
    his glory is above earth and heaven.(H)
14 He has raised up a horn for his people,
    praise for all his faithful,
    for the people of Israel who are close to him.

Psalm 149

Praise for God’s Goodness to Israel

Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
    his praise in the assembly of the faithful.(J)
Let Israel be glad in its Maker;
    let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.(K)
Let them praise his name with dancing,
    making melody to him with tambourine and lyre.(L)
For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;
    he adorns the humble with victory.(M)
Let the faithful exult in glory;
    let them sing for joy on their couches.(N)
Let the high praises of God be in their throats
    and two-edged swords in their hands,(O)
to execute vengeance on the nations
    and punishment on the peoples,
to bind their kings with fetters
    and their nobles with chains of iron,
to execute on them the judgment decreed.
    This is glory for all his faithful ones.

Praise for God’s Surpassing Greatness

Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
    praise him in his mighty firmament![b](Q)
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
    praise him according to his surpassing greatness!(R)

Praise him with trumpet sound;
    praise him with lute and harp!(S)
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
    praise him with strings and pipe!(T)
Praise him with clanging cymbals;
    praise him with loud clashing cymbals!(U)
Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!

    old men and children.

    his splendor(T) is above the earth and the heavens.(U)

    of Israel, the people close to his heart.(Y)

Psalm 149

Praise the Lord.[c](Z)

Sing to the Lord a new song,(AA)
    his praise in the assembly(AB) of his faithful people.

Let Israel rejoice(AC) in their Maker;(AD)
    let the people of Zion be glad in their King.(AE)
Let them praise his name with dancing(AF)
    and make music to him with timbrel and harp.(AG)
For the Lord takes delight(AH) in his people;
    he crowns the humble with victory.(AI)
Let his faithful people rejoice(AJ) in this honor
    and sing for joy on their beds.(AK)

May the praise of God be in their mouths(AL)
    and a double-edged(AM) sword in their hands,(AN)
to inflict vengeance(AO) on the nations
    and punishment(AP) on the peoples,
to bind their kings with fetters,(AQ)
    their nobles with shackles of iron,(AR)
to carry out the sentence written against them—(AS)
    this is the glory of all his faithful people.(AT)

Praise the Lord.

Psalm 150

    praise him in his mighty heavens.(AW)
Praise him for his acts of power;(AX)
    praise him for his surpassing greatness.(AY)
Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,(AZ)
    praise him with the harp and lyre,(BA)
praise him with timbrel and dancing,(BB)
    praise him with the strings(BC) and pipe,(BD)
praise him with the clash of cymbals,(BE)
    praise him with resounding cymbals.

Let everything(BF) that has breath praise the Lord.
