³ Children are a heritage from the Lord,
    offspring a reward^(R) from him.
⁴ Like arrows^(S) in the hands of a warrior
    are children born in one’s youth.
⁵ Blessed is the man
    whose quiver is full of them.^(T)
They will not be put to shame
    when they contend with their opponents^(U) in court.^(V)

⁵ May the Lord bless you from Zion;^(AF)
    may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem^(AG)
    all the days of your life.
⁶ May you live to see your children’s children—^(AH)
    peace be on Israel.^(AI)

⁵ May all who hate Zion^(AQ)
    be turned back in shame.^(AR)
6 May they be like grass on the roof,^(AS)
    which withers^(AT) before it can grow;
⁷ a reaper cannot fill his hands with it,^(AU)
    nor one who gathers fill his arms.
⁸ May those who pass by not say to them,
    “The blessing of the Lord be on you;
    we bless you^(AV) in the name of the Lord.”

³ If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
    Lord, who could stand?^(BB)
4 But with you there is forgiveness,^(BC)
    so that we can, with reverence, serve you.^(BD)

⁵ I wait for the Lord,^(BE) my whole being waits,^(BF)
    and in his word^(BG) I put my hope.
⁶ I wait for the Lord
    more than watchmen^(BH) wait for the morning,
    more than watchmen wait for the morning.^(BI)

⁷ Israel, put your hope^(BJ) in the Lord,
    for with the Lord is unfailing love^(BK)
    and with him is full redemption.^(BL)
8 He himself will redeem^(BM) Israel
    from all their sins.^(BN)

³ Israel, put your hope^(BU) in the Lord
    both now and forevermore.^(BV)

² He swore an oath to the Lord,
    he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:^(BY)
3 “I will not enter my house^(BZ)
    or go to my bed,
⁴ I will allow no sleep to my eyes
    or slumber to my eyelids,
⁵ till I find a place^(CA) for the Lord,
    a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

⁶ We heard it in Ephrathah,^(CB)
    we came upon it in the fields of Jaar:^[e](CC)
7 “Let us go to his dwelling place,^(CD)
    let us worship at his footstool,^(CE) saying,
⁸ ‘Arise, Lord,^(CF) and come to your resting place,
    you and the ark of your might.
⁹ May your priests be clothed with your righteousness;^(CG)
    may your faithful people^(CH) sing for joy.’”

¹⁰ For the sake of your servant David,
    do not reject your anointed one.

¹¹ The Lord swore an oath to David,^(CI)
    a sure oath he will not revoke:
“One of your own descendants^(CJ)
    I will place on your throne.
¹² If your sons keep my covenant^(CK)
    and the statutes I teach them,
then their sons will sit
    on your throne^(CL) for ever and ever.”

¹³ For the Lord has chosen Zion,^(CM)
    he has desired it for his dwelling,^(CN) saying,
¹⁴ “This is my resting place for ever and ever;^(CO)
    here I will sit enthroned,^(CP) for I have desired it.
¹⁵ I will bless her with abundant provisions;
    her poor I will satisfy with food.^(CQ)
16 I will clothe her priests^(CR) with salvation,
    and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.^(CS)

¹⁷ “Here I will make a horn^[f] grow^(CT) for David
    and set up a lamp^(CU) for my anointed one.^(CV)
18 I will clothe his enemies with shame,^(CW)
    but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown.”^(CX)

² It is like precious oil poured on the head,^(DA)
    running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
    down on the collar of his robe.
³ It is as if the dew^(DB) of Hermon^(DC)
    were falling on Mount Zion.^(DD)
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,^(DE)
    even life forevermore.^(DF)

³ May the Lord bless you from Zion,^(DM)
    he who is the Maker of heaven^(DN) and earth.

Praise the name of the Lord;
    praise him, you servants^(DP) of the Lord,
² you who minister in the house^(DQ) of the Lord,
    in the courts^(DR) of the house of our God.

³ Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;^(DS)
    sing praise to his name,^(DT) for that is pleasant.^(DU)
4 For the Lord has chosen Jacob^(DV) to be his own,
    Israel to be his treasured possession.^(DW)

⁵ I know that the Lord is great,^(DX)
    that our Lord is greater than all gods.^(DY)
6 The Lord does whatever pleases him,^(DZ)
    in the heavens and on the earth,^(EA)
    in the seas and all their depths.
⁷ He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth;
    he sends lightning with the rain^(EB)
    and brings out the wind^(EC) from his storehouses.^(ED)

⁸ He struck down the firstborn^(EE) of Egypt,
    the firstborn of people and animals.
⁹ He sent his signs^(EF) and wonders into your midst, Egypt,
    against Pharaoh and all his servants.^(EG)
10 He struck down many^(EH) nations
    and killed mighty kings—
¹¹ Sihon^(EI) king of the Amorites,^(EJ)
    Og king of Bashan,^(EK)
    and all the kings of Canaan^(EL)—
¹² and he gave their land as an inheritance,^(EM)
    an inheritance to his people Israel.

¹³ Your name, Lord, endures forever,^(EN)
    your renown,^(EO) Lord, through all generations.
¹⁴ For the Lord will vindicate his people^(EP)
    and have compassion on his servants.^(EQ)

¹⁵ The idols of the nations^(ER) are silver and gold,
    made by human hands.^(ES)
16 They have mouths, but cannot speak,^(ET)
    eyes, but cannot see.
¹⁷ They have ears, but cannot hear,
    nor is there breath^(EU) in their mouths.
¹⁸ Those who make them will be like them,
    and so will all who trust in them.

¹⁹ All you Israelites, praise the Lord;^(EV)
    house of Aaron, praise the Lord;
²⁰ house of Levi, praise the Lord;
    you who fear him, praise the Lord.
²¹ Praise be to the Lord from Zion,^(EW)
    to him who dwells in Jerusalem.^(EX)

Praise the Lord.

⁴ to him who alone does great wonders,^(FF)
His love endures forever.
⁵ who by his understanding^(FG) made the heavens,^(FH)

⁶ who spread out the earth^(FI) upon the waters,^(FJ)

⁹ the moon and stars to govern the night;

¹⁰ to him who struck down the firstborn^(FM) of Egypt

¹² with a mighty hand^(FO) and outstretched arm;^(FP)

¹³ to him who divided the Red Sea^[h](FQ) asunder

¹⁴ and brought Israel through^(FR) the midst of it,
His love endures forever.
¹⁵ but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea;^(FS)

¹⁶ to him who led his people through the wilderness;^(FT)

¹⁷ to him who struck down great kings,^(FU)

¹⁸ and killed mighty kings^(FV)—

²⁴ and freed us^(GD) from our enemies.^(GE)

²⁵ He gives food^(GF) to every creature.

²⁶ Give thanks^(GG) to the God of heaven.^(GH)
His love endures forever.^(GI)

⁴ How can we sing the songs of the Lord^(GR)
    while in a foreign land?
⁵ If I forget you,^(GS) Jerusalem,
    may my right hand forget its skill.
⁶ May my tongue cling to the roof^(GT) of my mouth
    if I do not remember^(GU) you,
if I do not consider Jerusalem^(GV)
    my highest joy.

⁷ Remember, Lord, what the Edomites^(GW) did
    on the day Jerusalem fell.^(GX)
“Tear it down,” they cried,
    “tear it down to its foundations!”^(GY)
8 Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction,^(GZ)
    happy is the one who repays you
    according to what you have done to us.
⁹ Happy is the one who seizes your infants
    and dashes them^(HA) against the rocks.

⁴ May all the kings of the earth^(HK) praise you, Lord,
    when they hear what you have decreed.
⁵ May they sing^(HL) of the ways of the Lord,
    for the glory of the Lord^(HM) is great.

⁶ Though the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly;^(HN)
    though lofty, he sees them^(HO) from afar.
⁷ Though I walk^(HP) in the midst of trouble,
    you preserve my life.^(HQ)
You stretch out your hand^(HR) against the anger of my foes;^(HS)
    with your right hand^(HT) you save me.^(HU)
8 The Lord will vindicate^(HV) me;
