Psalmul 52

Pentru dirijor. Un maschil^[a] al lui David, compus pe vremea când edomitul Doeg a venit la Saul şi l-a înştiinţat pe acesta, zicându-i: „David s-a dus în casa lui Ahimelek!“

¹Viteazule, ce te lauzi cu răutatea ta?
    Ce te lauzi, tu, care eşti toată ziua o ruşine pentru Dumnezeu?^[b]
²Numai dezastru plănuieşte limba ta!
    Este ca un brici ascuţit,
        viclean ce eşti!
³Tu iubeşti mai degrabă răul decât binele
    şi minciuna decât cuvântul drept.Sela
⁴Tu iubeşti numai cuvintele nimicitoare,
    limbă înşelătoare.

⁵Dumnezeu te va doborî pe vecie;
    te va apuca şi te va smulge din cortul tău;
        te va dezrădăcina din pământul celor vii.Sela
⁶Cei drepţi vor vedea şi se vor teme;
    vor râde de el:
⁷„Acesta este omul care nu-L lua pe Dumnezeu
    drept refugiu al său,
ci se încredea în marile lui bogăţii
    şi creştea în putere distrugându-i pe alţii.“

⁸Eu însă sunt ca un măslin verde
    în Casa lui Dumnezeu,
căci mă încred în îndurarea lui Dumnezeu
    pentru veci de veci.
⁹Te voi lăuda mereu pentru că ai lucrat;
    voi nădăjdui în Numele Tău, căci este binevoitor
        faţă de credincioşii Tăi!^[c]

Judgment on the Deceitful

To the choirmaster. A Maskil of David, when Doeg, the Edomite, came and told Saul, “David has come to the house of Ahimelech.”

52 Why do you boast, O mighty man,
    of mischief done against the godly?^[a]
    All the day ²you are plotting destruction.
Your tongue is like a sharp razor,
    you worker of treachery.
³You love evil more than good,
    and lying more than speaking the truth.Selah
⁴You love all words that devour,
    O deceitful tongue.

⁵But God will break you down for ever;
    he will snatch and tear you from your tent;
    he will uproot you from the land of the living.Selah
⁶The righteous shall see, and fear,
    and shall laugh at him, saying,
⁷“See the man who would not make
    God his refuge,
but trusted in the abundance of his riches,
    and sought refuge in his wealth!”^[b]

⁸But I am like a green olive tree
    in the house of God.
I trust in the steadfast love of God
    for ever and ever.
⁹I will thank thee for ever,
    because thou hast done it.
I will proclaim^[c] thy name, for it is good,
    in the presence of the godly.

The End of the Wicked and the Peace of the Godly

To the Chief Musician. A ^[a]Contemplation of David ^(A)when Doeg the Edomite went and ^(B)told Saul, and said to him, “David has gone to the house of Ahimelech.”

52 Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man?
The goodness of God endures continually.
²Your tongue devises destruction,
Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
³You love evil more than good,
Lying rather than speaking righteousness. Selah
⁴You love all devouring words,
You deceitful tongue.

⁵God shall likewise destroy you forever;
He shall take you away, and pluck you out of your dwelling place,
And uproot you from the land of the living. Selah
⁶The righteous also shall see and fear,
And shall laugh at him, saying,
⁷“Here is the man who did not make God his strength,
But trusted in the abundance of his riches,
And strengthened himself in his ^[b]wickedness.”

⁸But I am ^(C)like a green olive tree in the house of God;
I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.
⁹I will praise You forever,
Because You have done it;
And in the presence of Your saints
I will wait on Your name, for it ^[c]is good.
