12 Al maestro del coro. Sull'ottava. Salmo. Di Davide.
2 Salvami, Signore! Non c'è più un uomo fedele;
è scomparsa la fedeltà tra i figli dell'uomo.
3 Si dicono menzogne l'uno all'altro,
labbra bugiarde parlano con cuore doppio.
4 Recida il Signore le labbra bugiarde,
la lingua che dice parole arroganti,
5 quanti dicono: «Per la nostra lingua siamo forti,
ci difendiamo con le nostre labbra:
chi sarà nostro padrone?».
6 «Per l'oppressione dei miseri e il gemito dei poveri,
io sorgerò - dice il Signore -
metterò in salvo chi è disprezzato».
7 I detti del Signore sono puri,
argento raffinato nel crogiuolo,
purificato nel fuoco sette volte.
8 Tu, o Signore, ci custodirai,
ci guarderai da questa gente per sempre.
9 Mentre gli empi si aggirano intorno,
emergono i peggiori tra gli uomini.

Human Faithlessness and God’s Faithfulness
For the music director; on the Sheminith.[a] A psalm of David.[b]
12 Save, O Yahweh, for the pious have ceased to be;
for the faithful have vanished
from among the children of humankind.
2 They speak falseness to each other.[c]
With flattering lips,
with a double heart[d] they speak.
3 May Yahweh cut off all flattering lips,
the tongue speaking great boasts—
4 those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail.
Our lips are on our side.
Who is master over us?”
5 “Because of the oppression of the afflicted,
because of the groaning of the poor,
now I will rise up,” Yahweh says.
“I shall put them in the safety for which they[e] long.”
6 The words of Yahweh are pure words
like silver refined in the crucible on the ground,
refined seven times.
7 You, O Yahweh, will protect them.
You will preserve him[f]
from this generation always.
8 The wicked prowl about
when vileness is exalted among the children of humankind.

12 Help, Lord, for (A)the godly person has come to an end,
For the faithful have disappeared from the sons of mankind.
2 They (B)speak [b]lies to one another;
They speak with [c](C)flattering lips and a double heart.
3 May the Lord cut off all [d]flattering lips,
The tongue that (D)speaks great things;
4 Who (E)have said, “With our tongue we will prevail;
Our lips are [e]our own; who is lord over us?”
5 “Because of the (F)devastation of the poor, because of the groaning of the needy,
Now (G)I will arise,” says the Lord; “I will (H)put him in the safety for which he longs.”
6 The (I)words of the Lord are pure words;
Like silver (J)refined in a furnace on the ground, filtered seven times.
7 You, Lord, will keep them;
You will (K)protect him from this generation forever.
8 The (L)wicked strut about on every side
When [f](M)vileness is exalted among the sons of mankind.
