Psalm 91
1 Als je bescherming zoekt bij de Allerhoogste God,
ben je helemaal veilig.
2 Ik zeg tegen de Heer:
"Bij U ben ik zo veilig als in een schuilplaats,
zo veilig als in een burcht.
U bent mijn God. Ik vertrouw op U."
3 Want Hij redt je uit de vallen die de duivel voor je opzet.
Hij redt je van dodelijke ziektes.
4 Hij beschermt je onder zijn vleugels.
Bij Hem ben je veilig.
Zijn trouw beschermt je als een schild, als een pantser.
5 Je hoeft niet bang te zijn.
Niet voor gevaren die je 's nachts bedreigen.
Niet voor pijlen die overdag op je afgeschoten worden.
6 Niet voor ziekte die in het donker op je loert.
Niet voor de dood die je midden overdag aanvalt.
7 Al sterven de mensen om je heen
bij duizenden of tienduizenden,
jou zal niets overkomen.
8 Je zal alleen zien hoe het afloopt
met de mensen die zich niets van God hebben aangetrokken.
9 Bij U, Heer, ben ik veilig.
U, de Allerhoogste God, bent mijn Beschermer.
10 Geen ramp zal je overkomen.
Geen ziekte zal je huis binnendringen.
11 Want Hij zal zijn engelen bevelen
dat ze je moeten beschermen, waar je ook gaat.
12 Ze zullen je op hun handen dragen,
zodat je je voeten niet zal stoten.
13 Leeuwen en adders
zul je onder je voeten vertrappen.
14 De Heer zegt:
"Omdat hij heel veel van Mij houdt, zal Ik hem redden.
Ik zal hem beschermen, omdat hij Mij kent.
15 Als hij Mij om hulp roept, zal Ik hem antwoorden.
In moeilijkheden en gevaar zal Ik bij hem zijn.
Ik zal hem redden en voor de mensen eren.
16 Ik zal hem een lang leven geven.
Ik zal hem redden en goed voor hem zijn."

91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

91 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High,
who abides in the shadow of the Almighty,
2 will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress;
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence;
4 he will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand;
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the recompense of the wicked.
9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge,[a]
the Most High your habitation,
10 no evil shall befall you,
no scourge come near your tent.
11 For he will give his angels charge of you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder,
the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.
14 Because he cleaves to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
15 When he calls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will rescue him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him,
and show him my salvation.
