1 Voor de leider van het koor. Op de manier van de 'gittit'. Een lied van David.
2 Heer, onze Heer,
de hele aarde laat zien hoe geweldig U bent!
Aan de sterrenhemel is te zien
hoe geweldig U bent.
3 Kleine kinderen en baby's weten hoe ze U moeten prijzen.
Zo legt U uw vijanden het zwijgen op,
U snoert hun daarmee de mond.
4 Als ik zie hoe mooi de sterrenhemel is,
als ik kijk hoe prachtig U de maan en de sterren heeft gemaakt,
5 dan vraag ik mij af: "Hoe kan het
dat U aan de mens denkt?
Hoe kan het dat U Zich met hem bezighoudt?"
6 U heeft hem een iets lagere plaats gegeven dan de engelen. Maar U heeft hem ook grote eer en macht gegeven.
7 Hij mag van U heersen over alles wat U heeft gemaakt.
U laat hem over alles heersen:
8 de schapen en koeien, de wilde dieren,
9 de vogels in de lucht, de vissen in de zee
en alle andere dieren die daar leven.
10 Heer, onze Heer,
de hele aarde laat zien hoe geweldig U bent!

8 Ó Senhor, nosso Senhor, teu nome majestoso enche a terra;
tua glória é mais alta que os céus!
2 Tu ensinaste crianças e bebês
a anunciarem tua força;[b]
assim calaste teus inimigos
e todos que a ti se opõem.
3 Quando olho para o céu e contemplo a obra de teus dedos,
a lua e as estrelas que ali puseste, pergunto:
4 Quem são os simples mortais, para que penses neles?
Quem são os seres humanos, para que com eles te importes?[c]
5 E, no entanto, os fizeste apenas um pouco menores que Deus[d]
e os[e] coroaste de glória e honra.
6 Tu os encarregaste de tudo que criaste
e puseste sob a autoridade deles todas as coisas:
7 os rebanhos, o gado
e todos os animais selvagens;
8 as aves do céu, os peixes do mar
e tudo que percorre as correntes dos oceanos.
9 Ó Senhor, nosso Senhor, teu nome majestoso enche a terra!

8 O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
9 O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

1 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name(A) in all the earth!
You have set your glory(B)
in the heavens.(C)
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold(D) against your enemies,
to silence the foe(E) and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,(F)
the work of your fingers,(G)
the moon and the stars,(H)
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?[c](I)
5 You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e](J)
and crowned them[f] with glory and honor.(K)
6 You made them rulers(L) over the works of your hands;(M)
you put everything under their[g] feet:(N)
7 all flocks and herds,(O)
