Der Herr gibt meinem Leben Halt

54 Für den Dirigenten[a]. Mit Saiteninstrumenten zu begleiten. Ein kunstvoll gestaltetes Lied[b]. Von David. Er schrieb es, 2 nachdem Leute aus Sif zu Saul gegangen waren und ihn gefragt hatten: »Weißt du schon, dass sich David bei uns versteckt hält?«[c]

3 Gott, durch die Kraft deines Namens[d] rette mich!
Erweise deine Macht und verschaffe mir Recht!
4 Gott, höre auf mein Gebet,
schenke den Worten, die über meine Lippen kommen, ein offenes Ohr!
5 Denn fremde Menschen treten mir als Feinde entgegen,
sie sind gewalttätig und trachten mir nach dem Leben.
Gott ist ihnen dabei völlig gleichgültig.[e][f]

6 Ich weiß[g]: Gott ist mein Helfer!
Ja, der Herr gibt meinem Leben Halt!
7 Er wird die Bosheit meiner Feinde auf sie selbst zurückfallen lassen.[h]
Ja, ´Herr`, erweise deine Treue und bring sie zum Schweigen!
8 Dann will ich dir mit Freude Opfer darbringen
und dankbar bekennen, Herr, dass dein Name für einen gütigen Gott steht.[i]
9 Ja, aus aller Not hat er mich gerettet,
und mit Genugtuung blicke ich auf meine besiegten Feinde[j].

54 O God, save me by (A)Your name,
And render justice to me by (B)Your might.
2 (C)O God, hear my prayer;
(D)Give ear to the words of my mouth.
3 For strangers have (E)risen against me
And (F)ruthless men have (G)sought my [c]life;
They have (H)not set God before them. [d]Selah.

4 Behold, (I)God is my helper;
The Lord is among those who (J)sustain my soul.
5 He will (K)return the evil to my foes;
(L)Destroy them (M)in Your truth.

6 (N)With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to You;
I will give (O)thanks to Your name, O Yahweh, for it is good.
7 For [e]He has (P)delivered me from all [f]distress,
And my eye has (Q)looked in triumph upon my enemies.

Psalm 54[a]

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A maskil[b] of David. When the Ziphites(A) had gone to Saul and said, “Is not David hiding among us?”

1 Save me(B), O God, by your name;(C)
    vindicate me by your might.(D)
2 Hear my prayer, O God;(E)
    listen to the words of my mouth.

3 Arrogant foes are attacking me;(F)
    ruthless people(G) are trying to kill me(H)—
    people without regard for God.[c](I)

4 Surely God is my help;(J)
    the Lord is the one who sustains me.(K)

5 Let evil recoil(L) on those who slander me;
    in your faithfulness(M) destroy them.

6 I will sacrifice a freewill offering(N) to you;
    I will praise(O) your name, Lord, for it is good.(P)
7 You have delivered me(Q) from all my troubles,
    and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.(R)
