52 Für den Dirigenten[a]. Ein kunstvoll gestaltetes Lied[b]. Von David. 2 Der Edomiter Doëg hatte Saul aufgesucht und ihm verraten: »David ist gekommen und befindet sich im Haus von Ahimelech.«[c]
3 Was prahlst du so mit deiner Bosheit, du großer Held?
Gottes Gnade hat Bestand für alle Zeit![d]
4 Alles, was du im Sinn hast, ist das Verderben anderer,
deine Zunge gleicht einem geschliffenen Schermesser, du Betrüger!
5 Du liebst das Böse und nicht das Gute,
die Lüge mehr als das ehrliche und hilfreiche Wort[e].[f]
6 Mit deinen Worten Unheil anzurichten – das gefällt dir,
du betrügerisches Großmaul[g]!
7 So wird nun Gott dich für immer vernichten:
Er wird dich packen und aus deinem Zuhause[h] herausreißen,
dich entwurzeln aus der Welt der Lebenden[i].
8 Das werden die sehen, die nach Gottes Willen leben[j],
und ehrfürchtiges Staunen wird sie erfassen.
Erleichtert werden sie dann lachen und sagen[k]:
9 »Seht ihr, so geht es dem, der seine Zuflucht nicht bei Gott gesucht hat.
Lieber vertraute er auf seinen großen Reichtum
und baute auf List und Tücke[l].«
10 Ich aber gleiche einem Ölbaum, der beim Haus Gottes grünt und blüht,
immer und ewig vertraue ich auf Gottes Güte.
11 Ich werde dir, ´Herr`, ewig danken für das, was du getan hast.
Voll Zuversicht hoffe ich auf dich,
ja, dein Name steht für einen gütigen Gott –
das bezeuge ich vor allen, die dir treu sind.[m]

For the Chief Musician. A contemplation by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, “David has come to Ahimelech’s house.”
52 Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man?
God’s loving kindness endures continually.
2 Your tongue plots destruction,
like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
3 You love evil more than good,
lying rather than speaking the truth. Selah.
4 You love all devouring words,
you deceitful tongue.
5 God will likewise destroy you forever.
He will take you up, and pluck you out of your tent,
and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.
6 The righteous also will see it, and fear,
and laugh at him, saying,
7 “Behold, this is the man who didn’t make God his strength,
but trusted in the abundance of his riches,
and strengthened himself in his wickedness.”
8 But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God’s house.
I trust in God’s loving kindness forever and ever.
9 I will give you thanks forever, because you have done it.
I will hope in your name, for it is good,
in the presence of your saints.

For the director of music. A maskil[b] of David. When Doeg the Edomite(A) had gone to Saul and told him: “David has gone to the house of Ahimelek.”
1 Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero?
Why do you boast(B) all day long,(C)
you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?
2 You who practice deceit,(D)
your tongue plots destruction;(E)
it is like a sharpened razor.(F)
3 You love evil(G) rather than good,
falsehood(H) rather than speaking the truth.[c]
4 You love every harmful word,
you deceitful tongue!(I)
5 Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin:
He will snatch you up and pluck(J) you from your tent;
he will uproot(K) you from the land of the living.(L)
6 The righteous will see and fear;
they will laugh(M) at you, saying,
7 “Here now is the man
who did not make God his stronghold(N)
but trusted in his great wealth(O)
and grew strong by destroying others!”

2 The tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
3 Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
4 Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.
5 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.
6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:
7 Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.
8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.
9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.
