Psalmen 125
Het Boek
125 Een bedevaartslied.
Wie in alles op de Here vertrouwt,
is onwankelbaar als de berg van Jeruzalem,
die er voor altijd is.
2 Zoals rondom Jeruzalem bergen liggen,
zo is de Here rondom zijn volk.
Niet alleen nu,
maar altijd en tot in de eeuwigheid.
3 Want het land van de gelovigen zal niet
onder de tirannie van de goddeloze vijand blijven zuchten.
De gelovigen zullen dan ook niet komen tot onrechtmatige daden.
4 Here, wilt U het goede doen
voor eerlijke, goede mensen?
5 Als iemand echter van de rechte weg afdwaalt,
zal hij, samen met de ongelovigen,
door de Here worden vernietigd.
Laat er vrede zijn in Israël!

Psalm 125
1 Een pelgrimslied.[a]
Als je op de Heer vertrouwt,
sta je zo stevig als de berg Sion,
die niet wankelt maar voor eeuwig blijft staan.
2 Net zoals er bergen zijn rondom Jeruzalem,
zo is de Heer rondom zijn volk,
nu en voor altijd.
3 Hij zal niet toestaan
dat het kwaad voor altijd zal blijven heersen over zijn volk.
Want anders zou zijn volk ook slechte dingen gaan doen.
4 Heer, wees goed voor mensen die goed leven.
5 Maar laat het slecht aflopen
met de mensen die slechte dingen doen.
Ik wens Israël vrede toe!

125 They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.
2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.
3 For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity.
4 Do good, O Lord, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.
5 As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the Lord shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel.

The Lord the Strength of His People
A Song of Ascents.
125 Those who trust in the Lord
Are like Mount Zion,
Which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the Lord surrounds His people
From this time forth and forever.
3 For (A)the scepter of wickedness shall not rest
On the land allotted to the righteous,
Lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity.
4 Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
And to those who are upright in their hearts.
5 As for such as turn aside to their (B)crooked ways,
The Lord shall lead them away
With the workers of iniquity.
