1 Het is heerlijk
als je niet luistert naar de raad van mensen die zich niets van God aantrekken,
als je niet omgaat met slechte mensen,
als je niet meedoet met mensen die lachen om God.
2 Het is heerlijk als je geniet van Gods wet,
en daar dag en nacht over nadenkt.
3 Want daardoor zul je lijken op een boom die aan het water is geplant,
waar vruchten aan groeien als het daar de tijd voor is
en waarvan de bladeren nooit verdrogen.
Je zal succes hebben bij alles wat je doet.
4 Maar zo gaat het niet met de mensen die zich niets van God aantrekken.
Zij zullen lijken op stof dat door de wind wordt weggeblazen.
5 Als God komt rechtspreken over de mensen,
blijft er niets van hen over.
De slechte mensen worden dan gescheiden
van de mensen die leven zoals God het wil.
6 De Heer leidt het leven van de mensen die leven zoals Hij het wil.
Maar met de mensen die zich niets van Hem aantrekken,
loopt het uiteindelijk slecht af.

1 How blessed are those
who reject the advice of the wicked,
don’t stand on the way of sinners
or sit where scoffers sit!
2 Their delight
is in Adonai’s Torah;
on his Torah they meditate
day and night.
3 They are like trees planted by streams —
they bear their fruit in season,
their leaves never wither,
everything they do succeeds.
4 Not so the wicked,
who are like chaff driven by the wind.
5 For this reason the wicked
won’t stand up to the judgment,
nor will sinners
at the gathering of the righteous.
6 For Adonai watches over
the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked
is doomed.

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
