Psalm 97

Psalm 97
The Majestic King
1 The Lord reigns! Let the earth rejoice;
let the many coasts and islands be glad.(A)
2 Clouds and total darkness surround him;
righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.(B)
3 Fire goes before him
and burns up his foes on every side.(C)
4 His lightning lights up the world;
the earth sees and trembles.(D)
5 The mountains melt like wax
at the presence of the Lord—
at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.(E)
7 All who serve carved images,
those who boast in worthless idols, will be put to shame.(H)
All the gods[a] must worship him.(I)
8 Zion hears and is glad,
Judah’s villages[b] rejoice
because of your judgments, Lord.(J)
9 For you, Lord,
are the Most High over the whole earth;
you are exalted above all the gods.(K)

Fellowship with God
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light,(A) and there is absolutely no darkness in him.(B) 6 If we say, “We have fellowship(C) with him,” and yet we walk in darkness,(D) we are lying and are not practicing the truth.(E) 7 If we walk in the light(F) as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus(G) his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say, “We have no sin,”(H) we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive(I) us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say, “We have not sinned,” we make him a liar, and his word(J) is not in us.(K)
2 My little children, I am writing you these things so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate(L) with the Father—Jesus Christ the righteous one. 2 He himself is the atoning sacrifice[a](M) for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world.(N)
