How Great Are Your Works

A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath.

92 ^(A)It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
    to sing praises to your name, ^(B)O Most High;
²to declare your ^(C)steadfast love in ^(D)the morning,
    and your ^(E)faithfulness by ^(F)night,
³to the music of ^(G)the lute and ^(H)the harp,
    to the melody of ^(I)the lyre.
⁴For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your ^(J)work;
    at ^(K)the works of your hands I sing for joy.

⁵How ^(L)great are your works, O Lord!
    Your ^(M)thoughts are very ^(N)deep!
⁶The stupid man cannot know;
    the fool cannot understand this:
⁷that though ^(O)the wicked sprout like grass
    and all ^(P)evildoers flourish,
they are doomed to destruction forever;
⁸    but you, O Lord, are ^(Q)on high forever.
⁹For behold, your enemies, O Lord,
    for behold, your enemies shall perish;
    all evildoers shall be ^(R)scattered.

¹⁰But you have exalted my ^(S)horn like that of ^(T)the wild ox;
you have ^(U)poured over me^[a] fresh oil.
¹¹My ^(V)eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies;
my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants.

¹²^(W)The righteous flourish like the palm tree
    and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
¹³They are planted in the house of the Lord;
    they flourish in ^(X)the courts of our God.
¹⁴They still bear fruit in old age;
    they are ever full of sap and green,
¹⁵^(Y)to declare that the Lord is upright;
    he is my ^(Z)rock, and there is ^(AA)no unrighteousness in him.

The Lord Reigns

93 ^(A)The Lord reigns; he is ^(B)robed in majesty;
the Lord is ^(C)robed; he has ^(D)put on strength as his belt.
^(E)Yes, the world is established; ^(F)it shall never be moved.
²^(G)Your throne is established from of old;
^(H)you are from everlasting.

³^(I)The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
    the floods have lifted up their voice;
    the floods lift up their roaring.
⁴Mightier than the thunders of many waters,
    mightier than the waves of the sea,
    ^(J)the Lord ^(K)on high is mighty!

⁵Your ^(L)decrees are very trustworthy;
^(M)holiness befits your house,
O Lord, forevermore.

Isaiah 50

Israel's Sin and the Servant's Obedience

50 Thus says the Lord:
“Where is ^(A)your mother's certificate of divorce,
    with which ^(B)I sent her away?
Or ^(C)which of my creditors is it
    to whom I have sold you?
^(D)Behold, for your iniquities you were sold,
    and for your transgressions your mother was sent away.
²^(E)Why, when I came, was there no man;
    why, when I called, was there no one to answer?
^(F)Is my hand shortened, that it cannot redeem?
    Or have I no power to deliver?
^(G)Behold, by my rebuke ^(H)I dry up the sea,
    ^(I)I make the rivers a desert;
^(J)their fish stink for lack of water
    and die of thirst.
³^(K)I clothe the heavens with blackness
    and make sackcloth their covering.”

⁴The Lord God has given ^(L)me
    the tongue of those who are taught,
that ^(M)I may know how to sustain with a word
    ^(N)him who is weary.
Morning by morning he awakens;
    he awakens my ear
    to hear as those who are taught.
⁵^(O)The Lord God has opened my ear,
    ^(P)and I was not rebellious;
    I turned not backward.
⁶^(Q)I gave my back to those who strike,
    and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard;
I hid not my face
    from disgrace and spitting.

⁷But the Lord God helps me;
    therefore I have not been disgraced;
^(R)therefore I have set my face like a flint,
    and I know that I shall not be put to shame.
⁸    ^(S)He who vindicates me is near.
Who will contend with me?
    Let us stand up together.
Who is my adversary?
    Let him come near to me.
⁹^(T)Behold, the Lord God helps me;
    who will declare me guilty?
Behold, all of them will wear out like a garment;
    the moth will eat them up.

¹⁰Who among you fears the Lord
    and obeys ^(U)the voice of his servant?
^(V)Let him who walks in darkness
    and has no light
trust in the name of the Lord
    and rely on his God.
¹¹Behold, all you who kindle a fire,
    who equip yourselves with burning torches!
Walk by the light of your fire,
    and by the torches that you have kindled!
^(W)This you have from my hand:
    you shall lie down in torment.

Acts 28:16-31

¹⁶And when we came into Rome, ^(A)Paul was allowed to stay by himself, with the soldier who guarded him.

¹⁷After three days he called together the local leaders of the Jews, and when they had gathered, he said to them, “Brothers, ^(B)though I had done nothing against our people or ^(C)the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. ¹⁸When they had examined me, they ^(D)wished to set me at liberty, ^(E)because there was no reason for the death penalty in my case. ¹⁹But because the Jews objected, I was compelled ^(F)to appeal to Caesar—though I had no charge to bring against ^(G)my nation. ²⁰For this reason, therefore, I have asked to see you and speak with you, since it is ^(H)because of ^(I)the hope of Israel that I am wearing ^(J)this ^(K)chain.” ²¹And they said to him, “We have received no letters from Judea about you, and none of ^(L)the brothers coming here has reported or spoken any evil about you. ²²But we desire to hear from you what your views are, for with regard to this ^(M)sect we know that everywhere ^(N)it is spoken against.”

²³When they had appointed a day for him, they came to him at his lodging in greater numbers. From morning till evening ^(O)he expounded to them, testifying to ^(P)the kingdom of God and ^(Q)trying to convince them about Jesus ^(R)both from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets. ²⁴And ^(S)some were convinced by what he said, but others disbelieved. ²⁵And disagreeing among themselves, they departed after Paul had made one statement: ^(T)“The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:

²⁶^(U)“‘Go to this people, and say,
^(V)“You will indeed hear but never understand,
    and you will indeed see but never perceive.”
²⁷^(W)For this people's heart has grown dull,
    and with their ears they can barely hear,
    and their eyes they have closed;
lest they should see with their eyes
    and hear with their ears
and understand with their heart
    and ^(X)turn, and I would heal them.’

²⁸Therefore let it be known to you that ^(Y)this ^(Z)salvation of God ^(AA)has been sent to the Gentiles; ^(AB)they will listen.”^[a]

³⁰He lived there two whole years at his own expense,^[b] and ^(AC)welcomed all who came to him, ³¹^(AD)proclaiming ^(AE)the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ ^(AF)with all boldness and ^(AG)without hindrance.
