Psalm 91

My Refuge and My Fortress

91 He who dwells in ^(A)the shelter of the Most High
will abide in ^(B)the shadow of the Almighty.
²I will say^[a] to the Lord, “My ^(C)refuge and my ^(D)fortress,
my God, in whom I ^(E)trust.”

³For he will deliver you from ^(F)the snare of the fowler
    and from the deadly pestilence.
⁴He will ^(G)cover you with his pinions,
    and under his ^(H)wings you will ^(I)find refuge;
    his ^(J)faithfulness is ^(K)a shield and buckler.
⁵^(L)You will not fear ^(M)the terror of the night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
⁶nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
    nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.

⁷A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
⁸You will only look with your eyes
    and ^(N)see the recompense of the wicked.

⁹Because you have made the Lord your ^(O)dwelling place—
the Most High, who is my ^(P)refuge^[b]—
¹⁰^(Q)no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
^(R)no plague come near your tent.

¹¹^(S)For he will command his ^(T)angels concerning you
    to ^(U)guard you in all your ways.
¹²On their hands they will bear you up,
    lest you ^(V)strike your foot against a stone.
¹³You will tread on ^(W)the lion and the ^(X)adder;
    the young lion and ^(Y)the serpent you will ^(Z)trample underfoot.

¹⁴“Because he ^(AA)holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
    I will protect him, because he ^(AB)knows my name.
¹⁵When he ^(AC)calls to me, I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble;
    I will rescue him and ^(AD)honor him.
¹⁶With ^(AE)long life I will satisfy him
    and ^(AF)show him my salvation.”

How Great Are Your Works

A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath.

92 ^(A)It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
    to sing praises to your name, ^(B)O Most High;
²to declare your ^(C)steadfast love in ^(D)the morning,
    and your ^(E)faithfulness by ^(F)night,
³to the music of ^(G)the lute and ^(H)the harp,
    to the melody of ^(I)the lyre.
⁴For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your ^(J)work;
    at ^(K)the works of your hands I sing for joy.

⁵How ^(L)great are your works, O Lord!
    Your ^(M)thoughts are very ^(N)deep!
⁶The stupid man cannot know;
    the fool cannot understand this:
⁷that though ^(O)the wicked sprout like grass
    and all ^(P)evildoers flourish,
they are doomed to destruction forever;
⁸    but you, O Lord, are ^(Q)on high forever.
⁹For behold, your enemies, O Lord,
    for behold, your enemies shall perish;
    all evildoers shall be ^(R)scattered.

¹⁰But you have exalted my ^(S)horn like that of ^(T)the wild ox;
you have ^(U)poured over me^[a] fresh oil.
¹¹My ^(V)eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies;
my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants.

¹²^(W)The righteous flourish like the palm tree
    and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
¹³They are planted in the house of the Lord;
    they flourish in ^(X)the courts of our God.
¹⁴They still bear fruit in old age;
    they are ever full of sap and green,
¹⁵^(Y)to declare that the Lord is upright;
    he is my ^(Z)rock, and there is ^(AA)no unrighteousness in him.

I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. ⁹Behold, I will make those of ^(F)the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, ^(G)I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that ^(H)I have loved you. ¹⁰^(I)Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try ^(J)those who dwell on the earth. ¹¹^(K)I am coming soon. ^(L)Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize ^(M)your crown. ¹²^(N)The one who conquers, I will make him ^(O)a pillar in the temple of my God. ¹⁵^(A)Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus ^(B)withdrew again to ^(C)the mountain by himself.

Jesus Walks on Water

¹⁶When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, ¹⁷got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. ¹⁸The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. ¹⁹When they had rowed about three or four miles,^[a] they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. ²⁰^(D)But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” ²¹Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.

I Am the Bread of Life

²²On the next day the crowd that remained on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only ^(E)one boat there, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone. ²³Other boats from Tiberias came near the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord ^(F)had given thanks. ²⁴^(G)So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and ^(H)went to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

²⁵When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, ^(I)“Rabbi, when did you come here?” ²⁶Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(J)you are seeking me, not because you saw ^(K)signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. ²⁷^(L)Do not work for the food that perishes, but for ^(M)the food that endures to eternal life, which ^(N)the Son of Man will give to you. For on ^(O)him God the Father has ^(P)set his seal.”
