Apprends-nous à bien compter nos jours !
90 Prière de Moïse, l’homme de Dieu.
O Seigneur, d’âge en âge
tu as été notre refuge.
2 Avant que soient nées les montagnes,
et que tu aies créé ╵la terre et l’univers,
de toute éternité ╵et pour l’éternité, ╵toi, tu es Dieu.
3 Tu fais retourner l’homme ╵à la poussière,
et tu dis aux humains : ╵« Retournez-y[a] ! »
4 Car mille ans, à tes yeux,
sont comme le jour d’hier ╵qui est déjà passé[b],
comme une seule veille ╵au milieu de la nuit.
5 Tu les plonges dans le sommeil,
et ils sont au matin ╵comme l’herbe éphémère
6 qui fleurit le matin, ╵et passe vite :
le soir, elle se fane ╵et se flétrit.
7 Nous sommes consumés ╵par ta colère,
ta fureur nous effraie :
8 tu as mis devant toi ╵tous nos péchés,
et tu mets en lumière ╵tout ce que nous cachons.
9 Tous nos jours disparaissent ╵par ta colère,
et nous achevons nos années ╵comme un murmure…
10 Le temps de notre vie ? ╵C’est soixante-dix ans,
au mieux : quatre-vingts ans ╵pour les plus vigoureux ;
et leur agitation ╵n’est que peine et misère.
Car le temps passe vite ╵et nous nous envolons.
11 Qui donc connaît ╵l’intensité de ta colère,
et ton courroux ╵à la mesure de la crainte qui t’est due ?
12 Oh ! Apprends-nous ╵à bien compter nos jours,
afin que notre cœur ╵acquière la sagesse !
13 Tourne-toi de nouveau vers nous, ╵ô Eternel ! ╵Jusques à quand ╵tarderas-tu encore ?
Aie pitié de tes serviteurs !
14 Rassasie-nous tous les matins ╵de ton amour,
et nous crierons de joie, ╵pleins d’allégresse, ╵tout au long de nos jours.
15 Rends-nous en jours de joie ╵les jours de nos épreuves,
et en années de joie ╵nos années de malheur !
16 Que tes serviteurs voient tes œuvres,
et que ta splendeur brille sur leurs descendants.
17 Que le Seigneur, ╵notre Dieu, nous accorde sa faveur !
Fais prospérer pour nous ╵l’ouvrage de nos mains !

The Eternity of God, and Man’s Frailty
A Prayer (A)of Moses the man of God.
90 Lord, (B)You have been our [a]dwelling place in all generations.
2 (C)Before the mountains were brought forth,
Or ever You [b]had formed the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
3 You turn man to destruction,
And say, (D)“Return, O children of men.”
4 (E)For a thousand years in Your sight
Are like yesterday when it is past,
And like a watch in the night.
5 You carry them away like a flood;
(F)They are like a sleep.
In the morning (G)they are like grass which grows up:
6 In the morning it flourishes and grows up;
In the evening it is cut down and withers.
7 For we have been consumed by Your anger,
And by Your wrath we are terrified.
8 (H)You have set our iniquities before You,
Our (I)secret sins in the light of Your countenance.
9 For all our days have passed away in Your wrath;
We finish our years like a sigh.
10 The days of our lives are seventy years;
And if by reason of strength they are eighty years,
Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow;
For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
11 Who knows the power of Your anger?
For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath.
12 (J)So teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom.
13 Return, O Lord!
How long?
And (K)have compassion on Your servants.
14 Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy,
(L)That we may rejoice and be glad all our days!
15 Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us,
The years in which we have seen evil.
16 Let (M)Your work appear to Your servants,
And Your glory to their children.
17 (N)And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us,
And (O)establish the work of our hands for us;
Yes, establish the work of our hands.

From Everlasting to Everlasting

(F)from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
3 You return man to dust

5 You (L)sweep them away as with a flood; they are like (M)a dream,
like (N)grass that is renewed in the morning:

7 For we are brought to an end by your anger;
by your wrath we are dismayed.

or even by reason of strength eighty;
yet their span[c] is but toil and trouble;
they are soon gone, and we fly away.
11 Who considers the power of your anger,
and your wrath according to the fear of you?
12 (T)So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom.
13 (U)Return, O Lord! (V)How long?
Have (W)pity on your servants!
14 Satisfy us in the (X)morning with your steadfast love,
that we may (Y)rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have (Z)afflicted us,
and for as many years as we have seen evil.
16 Let your (AA)work be shown to your servants,
and your glorious power to their children.
17 Let the (AB)favor[d] of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish (AC)the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands!
