Psalm 89

The Lord’s Covenant with David and Israel’s Afflictions.

89 I will (A)sing of the graciousness of the Lord forever;
To all generations I will (B)make Your (C)faithfulness known with my mouth.
2 For I have said, “(D)Graciousness will be built up forever;
In the heavens You will establish Your (E)faithfulness.”
3 “I have made a covenant with (F)My chosen;
I have (G)sworn to My servant David,
4 I will establish your [d](H)descendants forever
And build up your (I)throne to all generations.” Selah
5 The (J)heavens will praise Your wonders, Lord;
Your faithfulness also (K)in the assembly of the (L)holy ones.
6 For (M)who in the skies is comparable to the Lord?
Who among the [e](N)sons of the mighty is like the Lord,
7 A God (O)greatly feared in the council of the (P)holy ones,
And (Q)awesome above all those who are around Him?
8 Lord God of armies, (R)who is like You, mighty [f]Lord?
Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
9 You rule the surging of the sea;
When its waves rise, You (S)calm them.
10 You Yourself crushed [g](T)Rahab like one who is slain;
You (U)scattered Your enemies with [h]Your mighty arm.
11 The (V)heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours;
The (W)world and [i]all it contains, You have established them.
12 The (X)north and the south, You have created them;
(Y)Tabor and (Z)Hermon (AA)shout for joy at Your name.
13 You have [j]a strong arm;
Your hand is mighty, Your (AB)right hand is exalted.
14 (AC)Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
(AD)Mercy and [k]truth go before You.
15 Blessed are the people who know the [l](AE)joyful sound!
Lord, they walk in the (AF)light of Your face.
16 In (AG)Your name they rejoice all the day,
And by Your righteousness they are exalted.
17 For You are the glory of (AH)their strength,
And by Your favor [m]our (AI)horn is exalted.
18 For our (AJ)shield belongs to the Lord,
[n]And our king to the (AK)Holy One of Israel.
19 [o]Once You spoke in vision to Your godly [p]ones,
And said, “I have [q]given help to one who is (AL)mighty;
I have exalted one (AM)chosen from the people.
20 I have (AN)found My servant David;
With My holy (AO)oil I have anointed him,
21 With whom (AP)My hand will be established;
My arm also will (AQ)strengthen him.
22 The enemy will not [r]deceive him,
Nor will the [s](AR)son of wickedness afflict him.
23 But I will (AS)crush his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
24 My (AT)faithfulness and My favor will be with him,
And in My name his (AU)horn will be exalted.
25 I will also place his hand (AV)on the sea,
And his right hand on the rivers.
26 He will call to Me, ‘You are (AW)my Father,
My God, and the (AX)rock of my salvation.’
27 I will also make him My (AY)firstborn,
The (AZ)highest of the kings of the earth.
28 I will maintain My (BA)favor for him forever,
And My (BB)covenant shall be confirmed to him.
29 So I will establish his [t](BC)descendants forever,
And his (BD)throne (BE)as the days of heaven.
30 “If his sons (BF)abandon My Law
And do not walk in My judgments,
31 If they [u]violate My statutes
And do not keep My commandments,
32 Then I will punish their wrongdoing with the (BG)rod,
And their guilt with [v]afflictions.
33 But I will not [w]withhold (BH)My favor from him,
Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness.
34 I will not [x]violate My (BI)covenant,
Nor will I (BJ)alter [y]the utterance of My lips.
35 [z]Once I have (BK)sworn by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.
36 His [aa](BL)descendants shall endure forever,
And his (BM)throne (BN)as the sun before Me.
37 It shall be established forever (BO)like the moon,
And a (BP)witness in the sky is faithful.” Selah
38 But You have (BQ)rejected and (BR)refused,
You have been full of wrath [ab]against Your (BS)anointed.
39 You have [ac](BT)repudiated the covenant of Your servant;
You have (BU)profaned (BV)his crown [ad]in the dust.
40 You have (BW)broken down all his walls;
You have (BX)brought his strongholds to ruin.
41 (BY)All who pass along the way plunder him;
He has become a (BZ)disgrace to his neighbors.
42 You have (CA)exalted the right hand of his adversaries;
You have (CB)made all his enemies rejoice.
43 You also turn back the edge of his sword,
And have (CC)not made him stand in battle.
44 You have put an end to his [ae](CD)splendor
And cast his throne to the ground.
45 You have (CE)shortened the days of his youth;
You have (CF)covered him with shame. Selah
46 (CG)How long, Lord?
Will You hide Yourself forever?
Will Your (CH)wrath burn like fire?
47 (CI)Remember [af]what my lifespan is;
For what (CJ)futility [ag]You have created all the sons of mankind!
48 What man can live and not (CK)see death?
Can he (CL)save his soul from the [ah]power of [ai]Sheol? Selah
49 Where are Your former acts of favor, Lord,
Which You (CM)swore to David in Your faithfulness?
50 Remember, Lord, the (CN)taunt against Your servants;
[aj]How I carry in my heart the taunts of all the many peoples,
51 With which (CO)Your enemies have taunted, Lord,
With which they have taunted the footsteps of (CP)Your anointed.

Har Gud inte hållit sitt ord
1-2 I evighet ska jag sjunga om Herrens godhet! Unga och gamla ska få höra hur trofast du är.
3 Din kärlek och din trofasthet varar så länge himlen består.
4-5 Herren Gud säger: Jag har under ed lovat min tjänare David att sätta hans ättlingar som kungar på hans tron, från och med nu och för all framtid!
6 Himlen ska prisa dina under, Herre. Hela skaran av änglar ska prisa dig för din trofasthet.
7 För vem i hela himlen kan jämföra sig med Gud? Inte ens de mäktigaste bland änglarna är som han.
8 I den himmelska rådsförsamlingen känner man bävan inför honom. Ja, alla fruktar honom.
9 Herre, du Gud över himmel och jord, var finns det någon så mäktig som du? Du är trofast i allt vad du gör.
10 Du härskar över haven. När vågorna rasar talar du, och det blir lugnt.
11 Du har besegrat det högfärdiga Egypten och krossat det. Du har skingrat dina fiender med din kraft.
12 Himlen och jorden tillhör dig, för allt detta har du skapat.
13 Du skapade norr och söder! Och berget Tabor och berget Hermon är glada för att du har skapat dem!
14 Din arm är väldig! Din hand är stark, och du lyfter den med makt.
15-16 Ditt kungarike är grundat på rättvisans och rättfärdighetens pelare. I allt vad du gör visar du din kärlek och trofasthet. Lyckliga är de människor som jublar högt inför dig, de vandrar i din närvaros ljus.
17 De gläder sig dag för dag för de vet att man kan lita på dina löften.
18 Du är deras styrka. Genom din kärlek vinner de anseende och makt!
19 Ja, Herren själv är vår beskyddare, och han, Israels Helige, har gett oss vår kung.
20 I en syn talade du för länge sedan till dina trogna tjänare och sa: Jag har utvalt en ung man bland folket till att bli kung.
21 Det är min tjänare David! Med helig olja har jag smort honom till kung.
22 Jag ska göra honom stark och mäktig.
23 Hans fiender ska inte besegra honom. Inte heller ska de ogudaktiga människorna kunna störta honom.
24 Jag ska slå ner hans motståndare framför ögonen på honom och utrota dem som hatar honom.
25 Jag ska skydda honom och alltid välsigna honom, och därför att jag ger honom mitt stöd ska han bli mäktig.
26 Hans rike ska sträcka sig från floden Eufrat till Medelhavet,
27 och när han ber ska han säga: 'Du är min Gud, min Far och min frälsnings klippa.'
28 Jag ska ge honom en förstfödd sons alla rättigheter och göra honom till den mäktigaste kungen på jorden.
29 Jag ska älska honom i evighet och hålla mitt löfte till honom. Mitt förbund med honom kommer aldrig att ta slut.
30 Hans kungasläkt ska aldrig dö ut, och en arvinge till honom ska alltid vara kung.
31-33 Om hans barn inte lyder mina lagar och inte följer dem, och om de inte håller mina bud, kommer jag att straffa dem för deras trolöshet.
34 Men jag ska aldrig sluta att älska David eller svika mitt löfte.
35 Nej, jag ska inte bryta mitt förbund, och jag tänker inte ändra på ett enda ord av vad jag har sagt,
36-37 för jag har lovat David - och en helig Gud kan aldrig ljuga - att hans ättlingar ska få regera till tidens slut.
38 Hans tron ska bestå för all framtid liksom månen, mitt trofasta vittne i skyn!
39 Varför har du då övergett mig? Varför är du så vred mot den som du har utvalt till kung?
40 Har du upphävt ditt förbund med din tjänare? Du har ju kastat hans krona i smutsen.
41 Du har brutit ner murarna i den stad, som skyddade honom, och raserat varje borg som försvarade honom.
42 Alla som har kommit dit har plundrat honom och grannfolken har hånat honom.
43 Du har låtit hans fiender segra, och de är glada.
44 Du har gjort hans vapen obrukbara och vägrat hjälpa honom i striden.
45 Du har gjort slut på hans härlighet som kung och vält omkull hans tron.
46 Du har gjort honom gammal i förtid, ja, du har klätt honom i vanära.
47 Herre, hur länge ska detta fortsätta? Ska du hålla dig gömd för mig i evighet? Hur länge kommer din vredes glöd att vara?
48 Tänk på hur kort du har gjort människans livstid. Du har skapat henne till att leva ett flyktigt ögonblick.
49 Ingen människa kan leva för evigt. Vem kan komma undan döden?
50 Herre, var finns nu den kärlek du brukade bevisa mig? Var är den trohet du lovade David?
51 Herre, se hur alla människor föraktar din tjänare!
52 Dina fiender hånar mig, mig som du smorde till kung.
53 Trots detta är Herren välsignad i evighet! Amen, ja, amen!

89 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever;
With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations.
2 For I have said, “Mercy shall be built up forever;
(B)Your faithfulness You shall establish in the very heavens.”
3 “I(C) have made a covenant with My chosen,
I have (D)sworn to My servant David:
4 ‘Your seed I will establish forever,
And build up your throne (E)to all generations.’ ” Selah
5 And (F)the heavens will praise Your wonders, O Lord;
Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the saints.
6 (G)For who in the heavens can be compared to the Lord?
Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened to the Lord?
7 (H)God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints,
And to be held in reverence by all those around Him.
8 O Lord God of hosts,
Who is mighty like You, O Lord?
Your faithfulness also surrounds You.

And their iniquity with stripes.

34 My covenant I will not break,
Nor (AD)alter the word that has gone out of My lips.
35 Once I have sworn (AE)by My holiness;
I will not lie to David:
36 (AF)His seed shall endure forever,
And his throne (AG)as the sun before Me;
37 It shall be established forever like the moon,
Even like the faithful witness in the sky.” Selah
38 But You have (AH)cast off and (AI)abhorred,[i]
You have been furious with Your [j]anointed.
39 You have renounced the covenant of Your servant;
(AJ)You have [k]profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
40 You have broken down all his hedges;
You have brought his [l]strongholds to ruin.
41 All who pass by the way (AK)plunder him;
He is a reproach to his neighbors.
42 You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries;
You have made all his enemies rejoice.
43 You have also turned back the edge of his sword,
And have not sustained him in the battle.
44 You have made his [m]glory cease,
And cast his throne down to the ground.
45 The days of his youth You have shortened;
