I Will Sing of the Steadfast Love of the Lord

89 ^(B)I will sing of ^(C)the steadfast love of the Lord, forever;
    with my mouth I will make known your ^(D)faithfulness to all generations.
²For I said, ^(E)“Steadfast love will be built up forever;
    in the heavens ^(F)you will establish your ^(G)faithfulness.”
³You have said, “I have made ^(H)a covenant with my ^(I)chosen one;
    I have ^(J)sworn to David my servant:
⁴‘I will establish your ^(K)offspring forever,
    and build your ^(L)throne for all generations.’” Selah

¹⁹^(A)Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one,^[a] and said:
    “I have ^(B)granted help to one who is ^(C)mighty;
    I have exalted one ^(D)chosen from the people.
²⁰^(E)I have found David, my servant;
    with my holy oil I have ^(F)anointed him,
²¹so that my ^(G)hand shall be established with him;
    my arm also shall strengthen him.
²²The enemy shall not outwit him;
    ^(H)the wicked shall not humble him.
²³I will ^(I)crush his foes before him
    and strike down those who hate him.
²⁴My ^(J)faithfulness and my ^(K)steadfast love shall be with him,
    and in my name shall his ^(L)horn be exalted.
²⁵I will set his hand on ^(M)the sea
    and his right hand on ^(N)the rivers.

¹²And it was told King David, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” ^(A)So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom ^(B)to the city of David with rejoicing. ¹³And when ^(C)those who bore the ark of the Lord had gone six steps, ^(D)he sacrificed an ox and a fattened animal. ¹⁴And David ^(E)danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was ^(F)wearing a linen ephod. ¹⁵So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn.

¹⁶As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart. ¹⁷And they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it ^(G)in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it. ^(H)And David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. ¹⁸And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, ^(I)he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts ¹⁹and distributed among all the people, the whole multitude of Israel, both men and women, a cake of bread, a portion of meat,^[a] and a cake of raisins to each one. ^(J)Then all the people departed, each to his house.

⁵For to which of the angels did God ever say,

today I have begotten you”?

and he shall be to me a son”?

⁶And again, when he brings ^(C)the firstborn into the world, he says,

^(D)“Let all God's angels worship him.”

⁷Of the angels he says,

^(E)“He makes his angels winds,
and his ministers a flame of fire.”

⁸But of the Son he says,

^(F)“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.
⁹You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, ^(G)has anointed you
with ^(H)the oil of gladness beyond your companions.”

¹⁰And,

^(I)“You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning,
    and the heavens are the work of your hands;
¹¹they will perish, but you remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment,
¹²like a robe you will roll them up,
    like a garment they will be changed.^[a]
But you are ^(J)the same,
    and your years will have no end.”
