I Will Sing of the Steadfast Love of the Lord

89 ^(B)I will sing of ^(C)the steadfast love of the Lord, forever;
    with my mouth I will make known your ^(D)faithfulness to all generations.
²For I said, ^(E)“Steadfast love will be built up forever;
    in the heavens ^(F)you will establish your ^(G)faithfulness.”
³You have said, “I have made ^(H)a covenant with my ^(I)chosen one;
    I have ^(J)sworn to David my servant:
⁴‘I will establish your ^(K)offspring forever,
    and build your ^(L)throne for all generations.’” Selah

    I have exalted one ^(D)chosen from the people.
²⁰^(E)I have found David, my servant;
    with my holy oil I have ^(F)anointed him,
²¹so that my ^(G)hand shall be established with him;
    my arm also shall strengthen him.
²²The enemy shall not outwit him;
    ^(H)the wicked shall not humble him.
²³I will ^(I)crush his foes before him
    and strike down those who hate him.
²⁴My ^(J)faithfulness and my ^(K)steadfast love shall be with him,
    and in my name shall his ^(L)horn be exalted.
²⁵I will set his hand on ^(M)the sea
    and his right hand on ^(N)the rivers.

The Ark Brought to Jerusalem

6 ^(A)David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. ²And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from ^(B)Baale-judah ^(C)to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the Lord of hosts ^(D)who sits enthroned on the cherubim. ³And they carried the ark of God ^(E)on a new cart and brought it ^(F)out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. And Uzzah and Ahio,^[a] the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart, ⁴with the ark of God,^[b] and Ahio went before the ark.

Uzzah and the Ark

⁵And David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the Lord, with ^(G)songs^[c] and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals. ⁶And when they came to the threshing floor of ^(H)Nacon, Uzzah ^(I)put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. ⁷And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and ^(J)God struck him down there because of his error, and he died there beside the ark of God. ⁸And David was angry because the Lord had broken out against Uzzah. And that place is called Perez-uzzah^[d] to this day. ⁹And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?” ¹⁰So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord into the city of David. But David took it aside ^(K)to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. ¹¹And the ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months, ^(L)and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and all his household.

The Supremacy of God's Son

1 Long ago, at many times and ^(A)in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, ²but ^(B)in these last days ^(C)he has spoken to us by ^(D)his Son, whom he appointed ^(E)the heir of all things, ^(F)through whom also he created ^(G)the world. ³He is the radiance of the glory of God and ^(H)the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. ^(I)After making purification for sins, ^(J)he sat down ^(K)at the right hand of the Majesty on high, ⁴having become as much superior to angels as the name ^(L)he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
