Great Is Your Steadfast Love

86 ^(B)Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me,
    for I am ^(C)poor and needy.
²Preserve my life, for I am ^(D)godly;
    save your servant, who ^(E)trusts in you—you are my God.
³^(F)Be gracious to me, O Lord,
    for to you do I cry all the day.
⁴Gladden the soul of your servant,
    for ^(G)to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
⁵For you, O Lord, are good and ^(H)forgiving,
    ^(I)abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.
⁶^(J)Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer;
    listen to my plea for grace.
⁷In ^(K)the day of my trouble I call upon you,
    ^(L)for you answer me.

⁸There is ^(M)none like you among the gods, O Lord,
    ^(N)nor are there any works like yours.
⁹^(O)All the nations you have made shall come
    and worship before you, O Lord,
    and shall glorify your name.
¹⁰For ^(P)you are great and ^(Q)do wondrous things;
    ^(R)you alone are God.
¹¹^(S)Teach me your way, O Lord,
    that I may ^(T)walk in your truth;
    ^(U)unite my heart to fear your name.
¹²I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
    and I will glorify your name forever.
¹³^(V)For great is your steadfast love toward me;
    you have ^(W)delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

¹⁴O God, insolent men have ^(X)risen up against me;
    a band of ruthless men seeks my life,
    and they do not set you before them.
¹⁵But you, O Lord, are a God ^(Y)merciful and gracious,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
¹⁶^(Z)Turn to me and be gracious to me;
    give your strength to ^(AA)your servant,
    and save ^(AB)the son of your maidservant.
¹⁷^(AC)Show me a sign of your ^(AD)favor,
    that those who hate me may see and be put to shame
    because you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

87 On ^(B)the holy mount ^(C)stands the city he founded;
²    the Lord ^(D)loves the gates of Zion
    more than all the dwelling places of Jacob.
³^(E)Glorious things of you are spoken,
    O ^(F)city of God. Selah

⁴Among those who ^(G)know me I mention ^(H)Rahab and Babylon;
    behold, Philistia and Tyre, with ^(I)Cush^[a]—
    “This one was born there,” they say.
⁵And of Zion it shall be said,
    “This one and that one were born in her”;
    for the Most High himself will ^(J)establish her.
⁶The Lord records as he ^(K)registers the peoples,
    “This one was born there.” Selah

⁷^(L)Singers and ^(M)dancers alike say,
“All my ^(N)springs are in you.”

Israel Crosses the Jordan

3 Then Joshua rose early in the morning and they set out ^(A)from Shittim. And they came to the Jordan, he and all the people of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over. ²^(B)At the end of three days the officers went through the camp ³and commanded the people, “As soon as you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God being carried by ^(C)the Levitical priests, then you shall set out from your place and follow it. ⁴^(D)Yet there shall be a distance between you and it, about 2,000 cubits^[a] in length. Do not come near it, in order that you may know the way you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.” ⁵Then Joshua said to the people, ^(E)“Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” ⁶And Joshua said to the priests, ^(F)“Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on before the people.” So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people.

⁷The Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to ^(G)exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, ^(H)as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. ⁸And as for you, command ^(I)the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, ‘When you come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, ^(J)you shall stand still in the Jordan.’” ⁹And Joshua said to the people of Israel, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God.” ¹⁰And Joshua said, “Here is how you shall know that ^(K)the living God is among you and that he will without fail ^(L)drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites. ¹¹Behold, the ark of the covenant of ^(M)the Lord of all the earth^[b] ^(N)is passing over before you into the Jordan. ¹²Now therefore ^(O)take twelve men from the tribes of Israel, ^(P)from each tribe a man. ¹³And ^(Q)when the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the Lord, ^(R)the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off from flowing, and the waters coming down from above shall ^(S)stand in one heap.”

¹⁴So when the people set out from their tents to pass over the Jordan with the priests bearing ^(T)the ark of the covenant before the people, ¹⁵and as soon as those bearing the ark had come as far as the Jordan, and ^(U)the feet of the priests bearing the ark were dipped in the brink of the water (now ^(V)the Jordan overflows all its banks ^(W)throughout the time of harvest), ¹⁶the waters coming down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far away, at Adam, the city that is beside ^(X)Zarethan, and those flowing down toward the Sea of ^(Y)the Arabah, ^(Z)the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. And the people passed over opposite Jericho. ¹⁷Now the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firmly on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan, ^(AA)and all Israel was passing over on dry ground until all the nation finished passing over the Jordan.

²⁹^(A)When he drew near to Bethphage and ^(B)Bethany, at ^(C)the mount that is called Olivet, he sent ^(D)two of the disciples, ³⁰saying, “Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, ^(E)on which no one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. ³¹If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” ³²So those who were sent went away and found it ^(F)just as he had told them. ³³And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” ³⁴And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” ³⁵And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. ³⁶And as he rode along, they ^(G)spread their cloaks on the road. ³⁷As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—^(H)the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice ^(I)for all the mighty works that they had seen, ³⁸saying, ^(J)“Blessed is ^(K)the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and ^(L)glory in the highest!” ³⁹^(M)And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” ⁴⁰He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, ^(N)the very stones would cry out.”

Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem

⁴¹^(O)And when he drew near and saw the city, ^(P)he wept over it, ⁴²saying, ^(Q)“Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now ^(R)they are hidden from your eyes. ⁴³For ^(S)the days will come upon you, when your enemies ^(T)will set up a barricade around you and ^(U)surround you and hem you in on every side ⁴⁴^(V)and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And ^(W)they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know ^(X)the time of your ^(Y)visitation.”

Jesus Cleanses the Temple

⁴⁵^(Z)And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, ⁴⁶saying to them, “It is written, ^(AA)‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but ^(AB)you have made it a den of robbers.”

⁴⁷^(AC)And he was teaching daily in the temple. ^(AD)The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people were seeking to destroy him, ⁴⁸but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were hanging on his words.
