Psalm 85

Prayer that the Lord Will Restore Favor to the Land
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm (A)of the sons of Korah.
85 Lord, You have been favorable to Your land;
You have (B)brought back the captivity of Jacob.
2 You have forgiven the iniquity of Your people;
You have covered all their sin. Selah
3 You have taken away all Your wrath;
You have turned from the fierceness of Your anger.
4 (C)Restore us, O God of our salvation,
And cause Your anger toward us to cease.
5 (D)Will You be angry with us forever?
Will You prolong Your anger to all generations?
6 Will You not (E)revive us again,
That Your people may rejoice in You?
7 Show us Your mercy, Lord,
And grant us Your salvation.
8 I will hear what God the Lord will speak,
For He will speak peace
To His people and to His saints;
But let them not turn back to [a]folly.
9 Surely (F)His salvation is near to those who fear Him,
(G)That glory may dwell in our land.
10 Mercy and truth have met together;
(H)Righteousness and peace have kissed.
11 Truth shall spring out of the earth,
And righteousness shall look down from heaven.
12 (I)Yes, the Lord will give what is good;
And our land will yield its increase.
13 Righteousness will go before Him,
And shall make His footsteps our pathway.

85 Lord, thou hast been favourable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.
2 Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sin. Selah.
3 Thou hast taken away all thy wrath: thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger.
4 Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease.
5 Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations?
6 Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?
7 Shew us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation.
8 I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.
9 Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.
10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
11 Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.
12 Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.
13 Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.

2 Herr, du bist deinem Land gnädig gewesen,
du hast Israels Geschick wieder zum Guten gewendet.
3 Die Schuld deines Volkes hast du vergeben
und alle seine Sünden zugedeckt.
4 Du hast deinen Zorn zurückgenommen
und seine feurige Glut von uns abgewendet.
5 So hilf uns auch jetzt, Gott, unser Retter.
Gib deinen Unwillen gegen uns auf!
6 Willst du für immer zornig auf uns sein –
ohne Ende, von einer Generation zur anderen?
7 Willst du uns nicht wieder neues Leben schenken,
damit wir uns über dich freuen können?
8 Herr, zeige doch, wie sehr du uns liebst!
Lass uns deine Rettung erfahren!
9 Ich will hören,
was Gott, der Herr, zu sagen hat:
Er verkündet Frieden seinem Volk –
denen, die ihm die Treue halten;
doch sollen sie nicht in ihre alte Unvernunft zurückfallen.
10 Ganz sicher wird er allen helfen, die ihm mit Ehrfurcht begegnen,
seine Herrlichkeit wird wieder in unserem Land wohnen.
11 Dann verbünden sich Güte und Treue,
dann küssen einander Gerechtigkeit und Frieden.
12 Treue wird aus der Erde sprießen
und Gerechtigkeit vom Himmel herabblicken.
13 Der Herr selbst wird uns mit Gutem beschenken,
und unsere Felder werden reiche Ernten bringen.
14 Gerechtigkeit wird dem Herrn vorausgehen,
ja, sie wird ihm den Weg bahnen.
