Psalm 84

Longing for the Temple worship.

For the Chief Musician; set to the Gittith. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.

84 How [a]amiable are thy tabernacles,
O Jehovah of hosts!
2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of Jehovah;
My heart and my flesh [b]cry out unto the living God.
3 Yea, the sparrow hath found her a house,
And the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young,
Even thine altars, O Jehovah of hosts,
My King, and my God.
4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house:
They will be still praising thee. Selah
5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee;
In whose heart are the highways to Zion.
6 Passing through the valley of [c]Weeping they make it a place of springs;
Yea, the early rain covereth it with blessings.
7 They go from strength to strength;
Every one of them appeareth before God in Zion.
8 O Jehovah God of hosts, hear my prayer;
Give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah
9 [d]Behold, O God our shield,
And look upon the face of thine anointed.
10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand.
I had rather [e]be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,
Than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For Jehovah God is a sun and a shield:
Jehovah will give grace and glory;
No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
12 O Jehovah of hosts,
Blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

Längtan till Guds tempel

1-2 Herre, du som är Gud över både himmel och jord, vad jag älskar ditt härliga tempel!

3 O, vad jag längtar, ja, jag nästan förgås av iver att få gå in i dina gårdar och komma nära dig. Med kropp och själ jublar jag inför dig, du den levande Guden.

4 Till och med sparvarna och svalorna är välkomna att bygga bo bland dina altaren och där föda upp sina ungar. Herre, du Gud över himmel och jord, du är min kung och min Gud!

5 Vad lyckliga de är som kan bo i ditt tempel och sjunga lovsånger till dig.

6 De som har sin starkhet i Herren är lyckliga, de som gärna och med glädje drar upp till ditt tempel.

7 När de vandrar genom tårarnas dal blir den fylld av källor, och höstregnet bevattnar landet.

8 De kommer ständigt att växa i styrka, tills de står inför Gud på berget Sion.

9 Herre, du Gud över himmel och jord, hör min bön! Lyssna, Israels Gud!

10 Gud, vår försvarare och vår sköld, välsigna den som du har smort till din kung.

11 En enda dag i ditt tempel är mer värd än tusen dagar någon annanstans! Jag vill hellre vara vaktmästare i min Guds tempel än att bo tillsammans med de ogudaktiga.

12 Herren Gud är vårt ljus och vårt skydd. Han ger oss nåd och ära. Han undanhåller inget gott från dem som vandrar på hans vägar.

13 Herre, du Gud över himmel och jord, välsignade är de som tror på dig!

Psalm 84[a]

For the director of music. According to gittith.[b] Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

1 How lovely is your dwelling place,(A)
    Lord Almighty!
2 My soul yearns,(B) even faints,
    for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
    for the living God.(C)
3 Even the sparrow has found a home,
    and the swallow a nest for herself,
    where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,(D)
    Lord Almighty,(E) my King(F) and my God.(G)
4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
    they are ever praising you.[c]

5 Blessed are those whose strength(H) is in you,
    whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.(I)
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
    they make it a place of springs;(J)
    the autumn(K) rains also cover it with pools.[d]
7 They go from strength to strength,(L)
    till each appears(M) before God in Zion.(N)

8 Hear my prayer,(O) Lord God Almighty;
    listen to me, God of Jacob.
9 Look on our shield,[e](P) O God;
    look with favor on your anointed one.(Q)

10 Better is one day in your courts
    than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper(R) in the house of my God
    than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the Lord God is a sun(S) and shield;(T)
    the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold(U)
    from those whose walk is blameless.

12 Lord Almighty,
    blessed(V) is the one who trusts in you.
