Psalm 78:11-25
New International Version
11 They forgot what he had done,(A)
the wonders he had shown them.
12 He did miracles(B) in the sight of their ancestors
in the land of Egypt,(C) in the region of Zoan.(D)
13 He divided the sea(E) and led them through;
he made the water stand up like a wall.(F)
14 He guided them with the cloud by day
and with light from the fire all night.(G)
15 He split the rocks(H) in the wilderness
and gave them water as abundant as the seas;
16 he brought streams out of a rocky crag
and made water flow down like rivers.
17 But they continued to sin(I) against him,
rebelling in the wilderness against the Most High.
18 They willfully put God to the test(J)
by demanding the food they craved.(K)
19 They spoke against God;(L)
they said, “Can God really
spread a table in the wilderness?
20 True, he struck the rock,
and water gushed out,(M)
streams flowed abundantly,
but can he also give us bread?
Can he supply meat(N) for his people?”
21 When the Lord heard them, he was furious;
his fire broke out(O) against Jacob,
and his wrath rose against Israel,
22 for they did not believe in God
or trust(P) in his deliverance.
23 Yet he gave a command to the skies above
and opened the doors of the heavens;(Q)
24 he rained down manna(R) for the people to eat,
he gave them the grain of heaven.
25 Human beings ate the bread of angels;
he sent them all the food they could eat.
Exodus 16:4
New International Version
4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven(A) for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test(B) them and see whether they will follow my instructions.
Exodus 16:14-18
New International Version
14 When the dew was gone, thin flakes like frost(A) on the ground appeared on the desert floor. 15 When the Israelites saw it, they said to each other, “What is it?” For they did not know(B) what it was.
Moses said to them, “It is the bread(C) the Lord has given you to eat. 16 This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Everyone is to gather as much as they need. Take an omer[a](D) for each person you have in your tent.’”
17 The Israelites did as they were told; some gathered much, some little. 18 And when they measured it by the omer, the one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little.(E) Everyone had gathered just as much as they needed.
