In the Day of Trouble I Seek the Lord

77 I ^(C)cry aloud to God,
    aloud to God, and he will hear me.
²^(D)In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord;
    in ^(E)the night my ^(F)hand is stretched out without wearying;
    my soul ^(G)refuses to be comforted.

¹¹I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
    yes, I will ^(A)remember your wonders of old.
¹²I will ponder all your ^(B)work,
    and meditate on your ^(C)mighty deeds.
¹³Your way, O God, is ^(D)holy.
    ^(E)What god is great like our God?
¹⁴You are the God who ^(F)works wonders;
    you have ^(G)made known your might among the peoples.
¹⁵You ^(H)with your arm redeemed your people,
    the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

¹⁶When ^(I)the waters saw you, O God,
    when the waters saw you, they were afraid;
    indeed, the deep trembled.
¹⁷The clouds poured out water;
    the skies ^(J)gave forth thunder;
    your ^(K)arrows flashed on every side.
¹⁸^(L)The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind;
    ^(M)your lightnings lighted up the world;
    the earth ^(N)trembled and shook.
¹⁹Your ^(O)way was through the sea,
    your path through the great waters;
    yet your footprints ^(P)were unseen.^[a]
²⁰You ^(Q)led your people like a flock
    by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

¹³Again the king sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up and came and fell on his knees before Elijah and entreated him, “O man of God, please let my life, and the life of these fifty servants of yours, ^(A)be precious in your sight. ¹⁴Behold, fire came down from heaven and consumed the two former captains of fifty men with their fifties, but now let my life be precious in your sight.” ¹⁵Then the angel of the Lord said to Elijah, “Go down with him; do not be afraid of him.” So he arose and went down with him to the king ¹⁶and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of ^(B)Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron—is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word?—therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’”

¹⁷So he died according to the word of the Lord that Elijah had spoken. Jehoram became king in his place ^(C)in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, because Ahaziah had no son. ¹⁸Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

³And ^(A)the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take away your master from over you?” And he said, “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.”

⁴Elijah said to him, “Elisha, ^(B)please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to ^(C)Jericho.” But he said, ^(D)“As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho. ⁵^(E)The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take away your master from over you?” And he answered, “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.”
