In the Day of Trouble I Seek the Lord

To the choirmaster: according to (A)Jeduthun. A Psalm of (B)Asaph.

77 I (C)cry aloud to God,
    aloud to God, and he will hear me.
(D)In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord;
    in (E)the night my (F)hand is stretched out without wearying;
    my soul (G)refuses to be comforted.

11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
    yes, I will (A)remember your wonders of old.
12 I will ponder all your (B)work,
    and meditate on your (C)mighty deeds.
13 Your way, O God, is (D)holy.
    (E)What god is great like our God?
14 You are the God who (F)works wonders;
    you have (G)made known your might among the peoples.
15 You (H)with your arm redeemed your people,
    the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

16 When (I)the waters saw you, O God,
    when the waters saw you, they were afraid;
    indeed, the deep trembled.
17 The clouds poured out water;
    the skies (J)gave forth thunder;
    your (K)arrows flashed on every side.
18 (L)The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind;
    (M)your lightnings lighted up the world;
    the earth (N)trembled and shook.
19 Your (O)way was through the sea,
    your path through the great waters;
    yet your footprints (P)were unseen.[a]
20 You (Q)led your people like a flock
    by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

  1. Psalm 77:19 Hebrew unknown

13 Again the king sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up and came and fell on his knees before Elijah and entreated him, “O man of God, please let my life, and the life of these fifty servants of yours, (A)be precious in your sight. 14 Behold, fire came down from heaven and consumed the two former captains of fifty men with their fifties, but now let my life be precious in your sight.” 15 Then the angel of the Lord said to Elijah, “Go down with him; do not be afraid of him.” So he arose and went down with him to the king 16 and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of (B)Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron—is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word?—therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’”

17 So he died according to the word of the Lord that Elijah had spoken. Jehoram became king in his place (C)in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, because Ahaziah had no son. 18 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

And (A)the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take away your master from over you?” And he said, “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.”

Elijah said to him, “Elisha, (B)please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to (C)Jericho.” But he said, (D)“As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho. (E)The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that today the Lord will take away your master from over you?” And he answered, “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.”

Jesus Foretells His Death

21 (A)And he strictly charged and commanded them to tell this to no one, 22 (B)saying, (C)“The Son of Man must (D)suffer many things and (E)be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on (F)the third day be raised.”

Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus

23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him (G)deny himself and (H)take up his cross (I)daily and follow me. 24 For (J)whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. 25 (K)For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? 26 For (L)whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed (M)when he comes in (N)his glory and the glory of the Father and of (O)the holy angels. 27 But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not (P)taste death (Q)until they see the kingdom of God.”
