Who Can Stand Before You?

To the choirmaster: with (A)stringed instruments. A Psalm of (B)Asaph. A Song.

76 In Judah God is (C)known;
    his name is great in Israel.
His (D)abode has been established in (E)Salem,
    his (F)dwelling place in Zion.
There he (G)broke the flashing arrows,
    the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah

Glorious are you, more majestic
    (H)than the mountains full of (I)prey.
(J)The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil;
    (K)they sank into sleep;
all the men of war
    were unable to use their hands.
At your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
    both (L)rider and horse lay stunned.

(M)But you, you are to be feared!
    Who can (N)stand before you
    when once your anger is roused?
From the heavens you uttered judgment;
    (O)the earth feared and was still,
when God (P)arose to establish judgment,
    to save all the humble of the earth. Selah

10 Surely (Q)the wrath of man shall praise you;
    the remnant[a] of wrath you will put on like a belt.
11 (R)Make your vows to the Lord your God and perform them;
    let all around him (S)bring gifts
    to him who (T)is to be feared,
12 who (U)cuts off the spirit of princes,
    who (V)is to be feared by the kings of the earth.

In the Day of Trouble I Seek the Lord

To the choirmaster: according to (W)Jeduthun. A Psalm of (X)Asaph.

77 I (Y)cry aloud to God,
    aloud to God, and he will hear me.
(Z)In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord;
    in (AA)the night my (AB)hand is stretched out without wearying;
    my soul (AC)refuses to be comforted.
When I remember God, I (AD)moan;
    when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah

You hold my eyelids open;
    I am so (AE)troubled that I cannot speak.
I consider (AF)the days of old,
    the years long ago.
I said,[b] “Let me remember my (AG)song in the night;
    let me (AH)meditate in my heart.”
    Then my spirit made a diligent search:
“Will the Lord (AI)spurn forever,
    and never again (AJ)be favorable?
Has his steadfast love forever ceased?
    Are his (AK)promises at an end for all time?
(AL)Has God forgotten to be gracious?
    (AM)Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah

10 Then I said, “I will appeal to this,
    to the years of the (AN)right hand of the Most High.”[c]

11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
    yes, I will (AO)remember your wonders of old.
12 I will ponder all your (AP)work,
    and meditate on your (AQ)mighty deeds.
13 Your way, O God, is (AR)holy.
    (AS)What god is great like our God?
14 You are the God who (AT)works wonders;
    you have (AU)made known your might among the peoples.
15 You (AV)with your arm redeemed your people,
    the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

16 When (AW)the waters saw you, O God,
    when the waters saw you, they were afraid;
    indeed, the deep trembled.
17 The clouds poured out water;
    the skies (AX)gave forth thunder;
    your (AY)arrows flashed on every side.
18 (AZ)The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind;
    (BA)your lightnings lighted up the world;
    the earth (BB)trembled and shook.
19 Your (BC)way was through the sea,
    your path through the great waters;
    yet your footprints (BD)were unseen.[d]
20 You (BE)led your people like a flock
    by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Tell the Coming Generation

A Maskil[e] of (BF)Asaph.

78 (BG)Give ear, O my people, to my teaching;
    incline your ears to the words of my mouth!
(BH)I will open my mouth (BI)in a parable;
    I will utter dark sayings from of old,
things that we have heard and known,
    that our (BJ)fathers have told us.
We will not (BK)hide them from their children,
    but (BL)tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,
    and (BM)the wonders that he has done.

He established (BN)a testimony in (BO)Jacob
    and appointed a law in (BP)Israel,
which he commanded our fathers
    to teach to their children,
that (BQ)the next generation might know them,
    the children yet unborn,
and arise and tell them to their children,
    so that they should set their hope in God
and not forget (BR)the works of God,
    but (BS)keep his commandments;
and that they should not be (BT)like their fathers,
    (BU)a stubborn and rebellious generation,
a generation (BV)whose heart was not steadfast,
    whose spirit was not faithful to God.

The Ephraimites, armed with[f] the bow,
    (BW)turned back on the day of battle.
10 They (BX)did not keep God's covenant,
    but refused to walk according to his law.
11 They (BY)forgot his works
    and (BZ)the wonders that he had shown them.
12 In the sight of their fathers (CA)he performed wonders
    in the land of Egypt, in (CB)the fields of Zoan.
13 He (CC)divided the sea and let them pass through it,
    and made the waters (CD)stand like a heap.
14 (CE)In the daytime he led them with a cloud,
    and all the night with a fiery light.
15 He (CF)split rocks in the wilderness
    and gave them drink abundantly as from the deep.
16 He made streams come out of (CG)the rock
    and caused waters to flow down like rivers.

17 Yet they sinned still more against him,
    (CH)rebelling against the Most High in the desert.
18 They (CI)tested God in their heart
    by demanding the food they craved.
19 They spoke against God, saying,
    (CJ)“Can God (CK)spread a table in the wilderness?
20 (CL)He struck the rock so that water gushed out
    and streams overflowed.
Can he also give bread
    or provide meat for his people?”

21 Therefore, when the Lord heard, he was full of wrath;
    (CM)a fire was kindled against Jacob;
    his anger rose against Israel,
22 because they (CN)did not believe in God
    and did not trust his saving power.
23 Yet he commanded the skies above
    and (CO)opened the doors of heaven,
24 and he (CP)rained down on them manna to eat
    and gave them (CQ)the grain of heaven.
25 Man ate of the bread of (CR)the angels;
    he sent them food (CS)in abundance.
26 He (CT)caused the east wind to blow in the heavens,
    and by his power he led out the south wind;
27 he rained meat on them like (CU)dust,
    winged birds like (CV)the sand of the seas;
28 he (CW)let them fall in the midst of their camp,
    all around their dwellings.
29 And they (CX)ate and were well filled,
    for he gave them what they (CY)craved.
30 But before they had satisfied their craving,
    (CZ)while the food was still in their mouths,
31 the anger of God rose against them,
    and he killed (DA)the strongest of them
    and laid low (DB)the young men of Israel.

32 In spite of all this, they (DC)still sinned;
    (DD)despite his wonders, they did not believe.
33 So he made (DE)their days (DF)vanish like[g] a breath,[h]
    and their years in terror.
34 When he killed them, they (DG)sought him;
    they repented and sought God earnestly.
35 They remembered that God was their (DH)rock,
    the Most High God their (DI)redeemer.
36 But they (DJ)flattered him with their mouths;
    they (DK)lied to him with their tongues.
37 Their (DL)heart was not (DM)steadfast toward him;
    they were not faithful to his covenant.
38 Yet he, being (DN)compassionate,
    (DO)atoned for their iniquity
    and did not destroy them;
he restrained his anger often
    and did not stir up all his wrath.
39 He (DP)remembered that they were but (DQ)flesh,
    (DR)a wind that passes and comes not again.
40 How often they (DS)rebelled against him in the wilderness
    and (DT)grieved him in (DU)the desert!
41 They (DV)tested God again and again
    and provoked (DW)the Holy One of Israel.
42 They (DX)did not remember his power[i]
    or the day when he redeemed them from the foe,
43 (DY)when he performed his (DZ)signs in Egypt
    and his (EA)marvels in (EB)the fields of Zoan.
44 He (EC)turned their rivers to blood,
    so that they could not drink of their streams.
45 He sent among them swarms of (ED)flies, which devoured them,
    and (EE)frogs, which destroyed them.
46 He gave their crops to (EF)the destroying locust
    and the fruit of their labor to the locust.
47 He destroyed their vines with (EG)hail
    and their sycamores with frost.
48 He gave over their (EH)cattle to the hail
    and their flocks to thunderbolts.
49 He let loose on them his burning anger,
    wrath, indignation, and distress,
    a company of (EI)destroying angels.
50 He made a path for his anger;
    he did not spare them from death,
    but gave their lives over to the plague.
51 He struck down every (EJ)firstborn in Egypt,
    the firstfruits of their strength in the tents of (EK)Ham.
52 Then he led out his people (EL)like sheep
    and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
53 (EM)He led them in safety, so that they (EN)were not afraid,
    but (EO)the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
54 And he brought them to his (EP)holy land,
    (EQ)to the mountain which his right hand had (ER)won.
55 He (ES)drove out nations before them;
    he (ET)apportioned them for a possession
    and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.

56 Yet they (EU)tested and (EV)rebelled against the Most High God
    and did not keep his testimonies,
57 but turned away and acted treacherously like their fathers;
    they twisted like (EW)a deceitful bow.
58 For they (EX)provoked him to anger with their (EY)high places;
    they (EZ)moved him to jealousy with their (FA)idols.
59 When God heard, he was full of (FB)wrath,
    and he utterly rejected Israel.
60 He (FC)forsook his dwelling at (FD)Shiloh,
    the tent where he dwelt among mankind,
61 and delivered his (FE)power to captivity,
    his (FF)glory to the hand of the foe.
62 He (FG)gave his people over to the sword
    and (FH)vented his wrath on his heritage.
63 (FI)Fire devoured their young men,
    and their young women had no (FJ)marriage song.
64 Their (FK)priests fell by the sword,
    and their (FL)widows made no lamentation.
65 Then the Lord (FM)awoke as from sleep,
    like a strong man shouting because of wine.
66 And he (FN)put his adversaries to rout;
    he put them to everlasting shame.

67 He rejected the tent of (FO)Joseph;
    he did not choose the tribe of Ephraim,
68 but he chose the tribe of Judah,
    Mount Zion, which he (FP)loves.
69 He (FQ)built his sanctuary like the high heavens,
    like the earth, which he has founded forever.
70 He (FR)chose David his servant
    and took him from the sheepfolds;
71 from (FS)following the nursing ewes he brought him
    to (FT)shepherd Jacob his people,
    Israel his (FU)inheritance.
72 With (FV)upright heart he shepherded them
    and (FW)guided them with his skillful hand.

How Long, O Lord?

A Psalm of (FX)Asaph.

79 O God, (FY)the nations have come into your (FZ)inheritance;
    they have defiled your (GA)holy temple;
    they have (GB)laid Jerusalem in ruins.
They have given (GC)the bodies of your servants
    to the birds of the heavens for food,
    the flesh of your (GD)faithful to (GE)the beasts of the earth.
They have poured out their blood like water
    all around Jerusalem,
    and there was (GF)no one to bury them.
We have become (GG)a taunt to our neighbors,
    (GH)mocked and derided by those around us.

(GI)How long, O Lord? Will you be angry (GJ)forever?
    Will your (GK)jealousy (GL)burn like fire?
(GM)Pour out your anger on the nations
    that (GN)do not know you,
and on the kingdoms
    that (GO)do not call upon your name!
For they have devoured Jacob
    and laid waste his habitation.

(GP)Do not remember against us (GQ)our former iniquities;[j]
    let your compassion come speedily to meet us,
    for we are (GR)brought very low.
(GS)Help us, O God of our salvation,
    for the glory of your name;
deliver us, and (GT)atone for our sins,
    for your (GU)name's sake!
10 (GV)Why should the nations say,
    “Where is their God?”
Let (GW)the avenging of the outpoured blood of your servants
    be known among the nations before our eyes!

11 Let (GX)the groans of the prisoners come before you;
    according to your great power, preserve those (GY)doomed to die!
12 Return (GZ)sevenfold into the (HA)lap of our neighbors
    the (HB)taunts with which they have taunted you, O Lord!
13 But we your people, the (HC)sheep of your pasture,
    will (HD)give thanks to you forever;
    from generation to generation we will recount your praise.

Restore Us, O God

To the choirmaster: according to (HE)Lilies. A Testimony. Of (HF)Asaph, a Psalm.

80 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel,
    you who lead (HG)Joseph like (HH)a flock.
You who are (HI)enthroned upon the cherubim, (HJ)shine forth.
    Before (HK)Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh,
(HL)stir up your might
    and (HM)come to save us!

(HN)Restore us,[k] O God;
    (HO)let your face shine, that we may be saved!

O (HP)Lord God of hosts,
    (HQ)how long will you be angry with your people's prayers?
You have fed them with (HR)the bread of tears
    and given them tears to drink in full measure.
(HS)You make us an object of contention for our (HT)neighbors,
    and our enemies laugh among themselves.

(HU)Restore us, O God of hosts;
    let your face shine, that we may be saved!

You brought (HV)a vine out of Egypt;
    you (HW)drove out the nations and planted it.
You (HX)cleared the ground for it;
    it took deep root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shade,
    the mighty cedars with its branches.
11 It sent out its branches to (HY)the sea
    and its shoots to (HZ)the River.[l]
12 Why then have you (IA)broken down its walls,
    so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit?
13 (IB)The boar from the forest ravages it,
    and all that move in the field feed on it.

14 Turn again, O God of hosts!
    (IC)Look down from heaven, and see;
have regard for this vine,
15     the stock that your right hand planted,
    and for the son whom you made strong for yourself.
16 They have (ID)burned it with fire; they have (IE)cut it down;
    may they perish at (IF)the rebuke of your face!
17 But (IG)let your hand be on the man of your right hand,
    the son of man whom you have made strong for yourself!
18 Then we shall not turn back from you;
    (IH)give us life, and we will call upon your name!

19 (II)Restore us, O Lord God of hosts!
    Let your face shine, that we may be saved!

Oh, That My People Would Listen to Me

To the choirmaster: according to (IJ)The Gittith.[m] Of (IK)Asaph.

81 (IL)Sing aloud to God our strength;
    (IM)shout for joy to the God of Jacob!
Raise a song; sound (IN)the tambourine,
    (IO)the sweet lyre with (IP)the harp.
Blow the trumpet at (IQ)the new moon,
    at the full moon, on our feast day.

For it is a statute for Israel,
    a rule[n] of the God of Jacob.
He made it (IR)a decree in (IS)Joseph
    when he (IT)went out over[o] the land of Egypt.
(IU)I hear a language (IV)I had not known:
“I (IW)relieved your[p] shoulder of (IX)the burden;
    your hands were freed from the basket.
In distress you (IY)called, and I delivered you;
    I (IZ)answered you in the secret place of thunder;
    I (JA)tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah
(JB)Hear, O my people, while I admonish you!
    O Israel, if you would but listen to me!
There shall be no (JC)strange god among you;
    you shall not bow down to a (JD)foreign god.
10 (JE)I am the Lord your God,
    who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
    (JF)Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

11 “But my people did not listen to my voice;
    Israel (JG)would not submit to me.
12 So I (JH)gave them over to their (JI)stubborn hearts,
    to follow their own (JJ)counsels.
13 (JK)Oh, that my people would listen to me,
    that Israel would (JL)walk in my ways!
14 I would soon subdue their enemies
    and (JM)turn my hand against their foes.
15 Those who hate the Lord would (JN)cringe toward him,
    and their fate would last forever.
16 But he would feed you[q] with (JO)the finest of the wheat,
    and with (JP)honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”

Rescue the Weak and Needy

A Psalm of (JQ)Asaph.

82 (JR)God (JS)has taken his place in the divine council;
    in the midst of (JT)the gods he (JU)holds judgment:
“How long will you judge unjustly
    and (JV)show partiality to (JW)the wicked? Selah
(JX)Give justice to (JY)the weak and the fatherless;
    (JZ)maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.
(KA)Rescue the weak and the needy;
    (KB)deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

(KC)They have neither knowledge nor understanding,
    (KD)they walk about in darkness;
    (KE)all the foundations of the earth are (KF)shaken.

(KG)I said, “You are gods,
    sons of the Most High, all of you;
nevertheless, like men (KH)you shall die,
    and fall like any prince.”[r]

(KI)Arise, O God, judge the earth;
    for you shall (KJ)inherit all the nations!

O God, Do Not Keep Silence

A Song. A Psalm of (KK)Asaph.

83 O God, do not keep silence;
    (KL)do not hold your peace or be still, O God!
For behold, your enemies (KM)make an uproar;
    those who hate you have (KN)raised their heads.
They lay (KO)crafty plans against your people;
    they consult together against your (KP)treasured ones.
They say, “Come, (KQ)let us wipe them out as a nation;
    let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”
For they conspire with one accord;
    against you they make a covenant—
the tents of (KR)Edom and (KS)the Ishmaelites,
    (KT)Moab and (KU)the Hagrites,
(KV)Gebal and (KW)Ammon and (KX)Amalek,
    (KY)Philistia with the inhabitants of (KZ)Tyre;
(LA)Asshur also has joined them;
    they are the strong arm of (LB)the children of Lot. Selah

Do to them as you did to (LC)Midian,
    as to (LD)Sisera and Jabin at (LE)the river Kishon,
10 who were destroyed at (LF)En-dor,
    who became (LG)dung for the ground.
11 Make their nobles like (LH)Oreb and Zeeb,
    all their princes like (LI)Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 who said, (LJ)“Let us take possession for ourselves
    of the pastures of God.”

13 O my God, make them like (LK)whirling dust,[s]
    like (LL)chaff before the wind.
14 As (LM)fire consumes the forest,
    as the flame (LN)sets the mountains ablaze,
15 so may you pursue them (LO)with your tempest
    and terrify them with your hurricane!
16 (LP)Fill their faces with shame,
    that they may seek your name, O Lord.
17 Let them be (LQ)put to shame and dismayed forever;
    let them perish in disgrace,
18 that they may (LR)know that you alone,
    (LS)whose name is the Lord,
    are (LT)the Most High over all the earth.

My Soul Longs for the Courts of the Lord

To the choirmaster: according to (LU)The Gittith.[t] A Psalm of (LV)the Sons of Korah.

84 How (LW)lovely is your (LX)dwelling place,
    O Lord of hosts!
My soul (LY)longs, yes, (LZ)faints
    for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and flesh sing for joy
    to (MA)the living God.

Even the sparrow finds a home,
    and the swallow a nest for herself,
    where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
    (MB)my King and my God.
(MC)Blessed are those who dwell in your house,
    ever (MD)singing your praise! Selah

Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
    (ME)in whose heart are the highways to Zion.[u]
As they go through the Valley of Baca
    they make it a place of springs;
    (MF)the early rain also covers it with (MG)pools.
They go (MH)from strength to strength;
    each one (MI)appears before God in Zion.

O (MJ)Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
    give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah
(MK)Behold our (ML)shield, O God;
    look on the face of your anointed!

10 For a day (MM)in your courts is better
    than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be (MN)a doorkeeper in the house of my God
    than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the Lord God is (MO)a sun and (MP)shield;
    the Lord bestows favor and honor.
(MQ)No good thing does he withhold
    from those who (MR)walk uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts,
    (MS)blessed is the one who trusts in you!

Revive Us Again

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of (MT)the Sons of Korah.

85 Lord, you were (MU)favorable to your land;
    you (MV)restored the fortunes of Jacob.
You (MW)forgave the iniquity of your people;
    you (MX)covered all their sin. Selah
You withdrew all your wrath;
    you (MY)turned from your hot anger.

(MZ)Restore us again, O God of our salvation,
    and put away your indignation toward us!
(NA)Will you be angry with us forever?
    Will you prolong your anger to all generations?
Will you not (NB)revive us again,
    that your people may (NC)rejoice in you?
Show us your steadfast love, O Lord,
    and grant us your salvation.

(ND)Let me hear what God the Lord will speak,
    for he will (NE)speak peace to his people, to his (NF)saints;
    but let them not (NG)turn back to (NH)folly.
Surely his (NI)salvation is near to those who fear him,
    that (NJ)glory may dwell in our land.

10 (NK)Steadfast love and faithfulness meet;
    (NL)righteousness and peace kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness springs up from the ground,
    and righteousness looks down from the sky.
12 Yes, (NM)the Lord will give what is good,
    and our land (NN)will yield its increase.
13 (NO)Righteousness will go before him
    and make his footsteps a way.

Great Is Your Steadfast Love

(NP)A Prayer of David.

86 (NQ)Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me,
    for I am (NR)poor and needy.
Preserve my life, for I am (NS)godly;
    save your servant, who (NT)trusts in you—you are my God.
(NU)Be gracious to me, O Lord,
    for to you do I cry all the day.
Gladden the soul of your servant,
    for (NV)to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
For you, O Lord, are good and (NW)forgiving,
    (NX)abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.
(NY)Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer;
    listen to my plea for grace.
In (NZ)the day of my trouble I call upon you,
    (OA)for you answer me.

There is (OB)none like you among the gods, O Lord,
    (OC)nor are there any works like yours.
(OD)All the nations you have made shall come
    and worship before you, O Lord,
    and shall glorify your name.
10 For (OE)you are great and (OF)do wondrous things;
    (OG)you alone are God.
11 (OH)Teach me your way, O Lord,
    that I may (OI)walk in your truth;
    (OJ)unite my heart to fear your name.
12 I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
    and I will glorify your name forever.
13 (OK)For great is your steadfast love toward me;
    you have (OL)delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

14 O God, insolent men have (OM)risen up against me;
    a band of ruthless men seeks my life,
    and they do not set you before them.
15 But you, O Lord, are a God (ON)merciful and gracious,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
16 (OO)Turn to me and be gracious to me;
    give your strength to (OP)your servant,
    and save (OQ)the son of your maidservant.
17 (OR)Show me a sign of your (OS)favor,
    that those who hate me may see and be put to shame
    because you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

Glorious Things of You Are Spoken

A Psalm of (OT)the Sons of Korah. A Song.

87 On (OU)the holy mount (OV)stands the city he founded;
    the Lord (OW)loves the gates of Zion
    more than all the dwelling places of Jacob.
(OX)Glorious things of you are spoken,
    O (OY)city of God. Selah

Among those who (OZ)know me I mention (PA)Rahab and Babylon;
    behold, Philistia and Tyre, with (PB)Cush[v]
    “This one was born there,” they say.
And of Zion it shall be said,
    “This one and that one were born in her”;
    for the Most High himself will (PC)establish her.
The Lord records as he (PD)registers the peoples,
    “This one was born there.” Selah

(PE)Singers and (PF)dancers alike say,
    “All my (PG)springs are in you.”

I Cry Out Day and Night Before You

A Song. A Psalm of (PH)the Sons of Korah. To the choirmaster: according to (PI)Mahalath Leannoth. A Maskil[w] of (PJ)Heman the Ezrahite.

88 O Lord, (PK)God of my salvation,
    I (PL)cry out day and night before you.
Let my prayer come before you;
    (PM)incline your ear to my cry!

For my soul is full of troubles,
    and (PN)my life draws near to (PO)Sheol.
I am counted among those who (PP)go down to the pit;
    I am a man who has no strength,
like one set loose among the dead,
    like the slain that lie in the grave,
like those whom (PQ)you remember no more,
    for they are (PR)cut off from your hand.
You have put me in (PS)the depths of the pit,
    in the (PT)regions dark and (PU)deep.
Your wrath (PV)lies heavy upon me,
    and you overwhelm me with (PW)all your waves. Selah

You have caused (PX)my companions to shun me;
    you have made me (PY)a horror[x] to them.
I am (PZ)shut in so that I cannot escape;
    (QA)my eye grows dim through sorrow.
Every day I call upon you, O Lord;
    I (QB)spread out my hands to you.
10 Do you work wonders for the dead?
    (QC)Do the departed rise up to praise you? Selah
11 Is your steadfast love declared in the grave,
    or your faithfulness in Abaddon?
12 Are your (QD)wonders known in (QE)the darkness,
    or your righteousness in the land of (QF)forgetfulness?

13 But I, O Lord, cry (QG)to you;
    (QH)in the morning my prayer comes before you.
14 O Lord, why (QI)do you cast my soul away?
    Why (QJ)do you hide your face from me?
15 Afflicted and close to death from my youth up,
    I suffer your terrors; I am helpless.[y]
16 Your wrath has swept over me;
    your (QK)dreadful assaults destroy me.
17 They (QL)surround me like a flood (QM)all day long;
    they (QN)close in on me together.
18 You have caused (QO)my beloved and my friend to shun me;
    my companions have become darkness.[z]

I Will Sing of the Steadfast Love of the Lord

A Maskil[aa] of (QP)Ethan the Ezrahite.

89 (QQ)I will sing of (QR)the steadfast love of the Lord, forever;
    with my mouth I will make known your (QS)faithfulness to all generations.
For I said, (QT)“Steadfast love will be built up forever;
    in the heavens (QU)you will establish your (QV)faithfulness.”
You have said, “I have made (QW)a covenant with my (QX)chosen one;
    I have (QY)sworn to David my servant:
‘I will establish your (QZ)offspring forever,
    and build your (RA)throne for all generations.’” Selah

Let (RB)the heavens praise your (RC)wonders, O Lord,
    your faithfulness in the assembly of (RD)the holy ones!
