Psalm 75

God Will Judge with Equity

To the choirmaster: according to ^(A)Do Not Destroy. ^(B)A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.

75 We give thanks to you, O God;
we give thanks, for your name is ^(C)near.
We^[a] recount your wondrous deeds.

²“At ^(D)the set time that I appoint
    I will judge ^(E)with equity.
³When the earth ^(F)totters, and all its inhabitants,
    it is I who keep steady its ^(G)pillars. Selah
⁴I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’
    and to the wicked, ^(H)‘Do not lift up your horn;
⁵do not lift up your horn on high,
    or speak with haughty neck.’”

⁶For not from the east or from the west
    and not from the wilderness comes ^(I)lifting up,
⁷but it is ^(J)God who executes judgment,
    ^(K)putting down one and lifting up another.
⁸^(L)For in the hand of the Lord there is ^(M)a cup
    with foaming wine, ^(N)well mixed,
and he pours out from it,
    and all the wicked of the earth
    shall ^(O)drain it down to the dregs.

⁹But I will declare it forever;
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
¹⁰^(P)All the horns of the wicked I will cut off,
^(Q)but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.

²⁸“For they are a nation void of counsel,
    and there is ^(A)no understanding in them.
²⁹^(B)If they were wise, they would understand this;
    they would ^(C)discern their latter end!
³⁰How could ^(D)one have chased a thousand,
    and two have put ten thousand to flight,
unless their Rock ^(E)had sold them,
    and the Lord had given them up?
³¹For ^(F)their rock is not as our Rock;
    ^(G)our enemies are by themselves.
³²For their vine ^(H)comes from the vine of Sodom
    and from the fields of Gomorrah;
their grapes are grapes of ^(I)poison;
    their clusters are bitter;
³³their wine is the poison of ^(J)serpents
    and the cruel venom of asps.

³⁴“‘Is not this laid up in store with me,
    ^(K)sealed up in my treasuries?
³⁵^(L)Vengeance is mine, and recompense,^[a]
    ^(M)for the time when their foot shall slip;
for ^(N)the day of their calamity is at hand,
    and their doom comes swiftly.’
³⁶For ^(O)the Lord will vindicate^[b] his people
    ^(P)and have compassion on his servants,
when he sees that their power is gone
    and there is none remaining, ^(Q)bond or free.
³⁷Then he will say, ^(R)‘Where are their gods,
    ^(S)the rock in which they took refuge,
³⁸who ate the fat of their sacrifices
    and drank the wine of their drink offering?
Let them rise up and help you;
    let them be your protection!

³⁹“‘See now that ^(T)I, even I, am he,
    and there is no god beside me;
^(U)I kill and I make alive;
    ^(V)I wound and I heal;
    and there is none that can deliver out of my hand.
⁴⁰For ^(W)I lift up my hand to heaven
    and swear, As I live forever,
⁴¹if I ^(X)sharpen my flashing sword^[c]
    and my hand takes hold on judgment,
I will take vengeance on my adversaries
    and will repay those who hate me.
⁴²I will make my arrows drunk with blood,
    and ^(Y)my sword shall devour flesh—
with the blood of the slain and the captives,
    from the ^(Z)long-haired heads of the enemy.’

⁴³^(AA)“Rejoice with him, O heavens;^[d]
    bow down to him, all gods,^[e]
for he ^(AB)avenges the blood of his children^[f]
    and takes vengeance on his adversaries.
He repays those who hate him^[g]
    and cleanses^[h] his people's land.”^[i]

⁴⁴Moses came and recited all the words of this song in the hearing of the people, he and ^(AC)Joshua^[j] the son of Nun. ⁴⁵And when Moses had finished speaking all these words to all Israel, ⁴⁶he said to them, ^(AD)“Take to heart all the words by which I am warning you today, ^(AE)that you may command them to your children, that they may be careful to do all the words of this law. ⁴⁷For it is no empty word for you, ^(AF)but your very life, and by this word you shall live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess.”

Moses' Death Foretold

⁴⁸That very day the Lord spoke to Moses, ⁴⁹“Go up ^(AG)this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, opposite Jericho, and view the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the people of Israel for a possession. ⁵⁰And die on the mountain which you go up, and be gathered to your people, as ^(AH)Aaron your brother died in Mount Hor and was gathered to his people, ⁵¹^(AI)because you broke faith with me in the midst of the people of Israel at the waters of Meribah-kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, and because you did not treat me as holy in the midst of the people of Israel. ⁵²For ^(AJ)you shall see the land before you, but you shall not go there, into the land that I am giving to the people of Israel.”

John 21

Jesus Appears to Seven Disciples

21 After this Jesus ^(A)revealed himself ^(B)again to the disciples by ^(C)the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. ²Simon Peter, ^(D)Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of ^(E)Cana in Galilee, ^(F)the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. ³Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but ^(G)that night they caught nothing.

⁴Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples ^(H)did not know that it was Jesus. ⁵^(I)Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” ⁶^(J)He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. ⁷That disciple ^(K)whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, ^(L)he put on his outer garment, for he was ^(M)stripped for work, and ^(N)threw himself into the sea. ⁸The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards^[a] off.

⁹When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. ¹⁰Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” ¹¹So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. ¹²Jesus said to them, ^(O)“Come and ^(P)have breakfast.” Now ^(Q)none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. ¹³Jesus came and ^(R)took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. ¹⁴^(S)This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

Jesus and Peter

¹⁵When they had ^(T)finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ^(U)“Simon, ^(V)son of John, ^(W)do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed ^(X)my lambs.” ¹⁶He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, ^(Y)“Tend ^(Z)my sheep.” ¹⁷He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him ^(AA)the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, ^(AB)you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed ^(AC)my sheep. ¹⁸^(AD)Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, ^(AE)you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.” ¹⁹(This he said to show ^(AF)by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, ^(AG)“Follow me.”

Jesus and the Beloved Apostle

²⁰Peter turned and saw ^(AH)the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, ^(AI)the one who also had leaned back against him during the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?” ²¹When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” ²²Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain ^(AJ)until ^(AK)I come, what is that to you? ^(AL)You follow me!” ²³So the saying spread abroad among ^(AM)the brothers^[b] that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?”

²⁴This is the disciple ^(AN)who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and ^(AO)we know ^(AP)that his testimony is true.

²⁵Now ^(AQ)there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that ^(AR)the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
